Aida Traconis Arquitectos Merge Sustainability and Luxury into Premier Designs

Aida Traconis Arquitectos is first class architecture, interior design, construction and landscaping firm based in Mérida Yucatán, Mexico. The company has 24 years’ experience in the architectural market, design and construction of projects of different scales, in different areas, and they support every architectural dream that their esteemed clients have, helping them to make them a reality. The company is greatly concerned with sustainability and acting ethically in their endeavors, ensuring that sustainable methods and materials are used wherever possible. It’s therefore no surprise that the forward-thinking company has won the Luxury Lifestyle Awards for Best Luxury Interior Design Studio in Mexico, in 2022.

Aida Traconis Arquitectos has a mission to expand their industries across the world, consistently acting with strong ethics, kindness and generosity, continuously being transparent, and acting with professionalism in order to create the highest quality work as a team.

Aida is the creation of Professor Aída Manón Traconis Alcocer, a Mexican born in Monterrey, Nuevo León. She has a Master’s degree in “Management and Transformation of the City, the Landscape and the New Sustainable Tourist Territories”. For several years, Aida worked in different architecture offices, eventually creating her own office in 1998, dedicating herself to the design, development and management of varied architectural projects, mostly private, residential, education, and health sector, corporate and commercial.

While being the successful founder and director of the company, Aida is also enthusiastically involved in many different organizations, foundations and initiatives. She has written a blog on sustainability, and has also produced a documentary entitled “Yaakun Aak Alche” (Mayan for “To Love the Mangrove”). Aida has participated in various architecture biennials and competitions, and published several works and articles. She has taught various courses, and is also highly involved in the promotion of dramatic and visual arts. In 2016, she received the Architect and Design Women for Equality Acknowledgment award, granted by Panel Rey and ENADII Mexico Organizations, at Merida, Yuc.

The firm is dedicated to creating contemporary architecture that is integrated into the natural and urban environment, seeking results that are favorable for all those involved: client, designer and habitat. Currently, the office is highly qualified to solve the challenges of this era of globalization, offering new services, addressing solutions for open spaces of different scales with a holistic approach to architectural and landscape design, tourism, social, environmental and residential. The company realizes that in today’s world, work requires a team that works closely with the client, both in the design and in the establishment of strategies to achieve the desired goals, generating projects that cover immediate and future needs. Aida Traconis Arquitectos is continuously learning and looking for new solutions in architectural work, which is a great part of what characterizes them.

One of the stand-out projects that Aida Traconis Arquitectos has created is JC-ROA House. In this work, the use of available natural resources was considered: sun, vegetation, wind, with the importance of thermal balance being taken into account. Natural lighting was used as best as possible, influencing the reduction of the demand for conventional energy by taking advantage of alternative energy sources.

Today, it is essential to consider and take advantage of bioclimatic conditions, as designs with this focus help to save energy, create less of an environmental impact, and greater comfort. Sustainable construction involves using the best practices of quality and efficiency, while keeping the costs manageable and affordable. A sustainable property can save between 30% and 60% of energy compared to conventional ones, and between 30% and 50% of water. The incorporation of renewable energies such as solar panels, solar collectors, and rainwater harvesting are options that the company avidly recommends to their clients.

Understanding the property’s territory and landscape – ‘reading and feeling it’ is of utmost importance. Urban design and urban planning have arisen in recent years as an important factor in architecture, as cities around the world are growing, and the old needs to be merged successfully with the new so that vibrant, urban communities can be developed.

Aida promotes roof gardens or roof terraces, as a way to “bring sustainability to the sky of your house”. There are many benefits of having a roof garden, such as UV protection, dust reduction and energy saving. It also acts almost like a Zen garden, ultimately leading to a healthier life.
