I stopped by this place twice because I'm around the area frequently. The place is very nicely decorated, clean, modern and stylish. Everything they offer Ed seems to be organic or some sort of items that are gentle/healthy for the body.
I wanted to try their tea ice cream, but the first time I wasn't able to get any because the barista told me the ice cream was frozen too hard to be scooped out. The second time I stopped by, I asked if I could try 2 flavors first before buying because I wasn't sure what to get (and they had 4 flavors of tea ice cream). I was kind of bummed the lady cut me a little short saying she could just give me those 2 scoops for my order (I guess..I wished she didn't cut me short so I could really decide which flavors i wanted to spend my money on rather than deciding to go ahead and buy something I don't know would be my preference).
I ended up getting the Jasmine and Assam tea ice cream and thought they tasted good. Fo $6.95 though the portion is a little small..but I guess because I never tried those 2 flavors in the form of ice cream before...it was somewhat reasonable for me to spend just to try them.
Overall, a decent place to enjoy your quiet afternoon with friends. It's a little pricey here for the items you see on their menu board...but it's a prime spot in Newbury...so...I don't think it's completely unreasonable either.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0Business owner information

Dear Joop,
We are very sorry about the miscommunication regarding the ice cream samples. The staff didn’t mean to cut you short. She misunderstood your question and thought you were wondering if you could get a combination of flavors for one ice cream purchase. We always give samples for the soups and ice creams as we would like our customers to make informed purchases. And we have full respect to everybody, as our business name suggests.
Have a good one! And we hope you would visit us again and enjoy a nice cup of organic tea or some quick bites.
Thanks,
Angela - Sep 17, 2019
Came here with a close friend who had this place bookmarked on yelp. Located underground, this adorable cafe has a beautiful, calm ambience inside with comfortable seating and cushions that are perfect for casual outings with friends.
To get to the point, I gave this place 3 stars because I was not impressed with my drink. I ordered a hot matcha tea latte with oat milk, which was possibly the most bland matcha tea latte I've ever had. I wouldn't have minded all that much if the price wasn't so exorbitant - over $6. It was also disappointing that my latte didn't have any latte art either and was not served in a mug or cup of some sort.
My friend got the tea ice cream, assam and earl grey. Not impressive either - she couldn't tell the difference in taste between the two because the flavors were too weak. It was also more icy than ice cream, which was a letdown.
Overall, I will not be coming back for their menu items, but maybe just to enjoy a pretty aesthetic place.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 13, 2020

Helpful staff more than willing to talk you through teas and provide thinks like warmed milk on the side
The only oddity is tea was served in a tall glass beer mug. Odd.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tiffany D.Malden, MA184232543Jan 27, 2020
A cute, cozy cafe that specializes in loose leaf teas and cafe snacks such as avocado toast. My friend and I asked for the most popular teas and they were super nice and brought out several different jars of loose leaf and let us smell them - super knowledgeable and friendly! We settled on a pot of jasmine tea - which took about 5 minutes.
While the tea was good, it is definitely on the pricier side, running $7 for a tea pot that would be equal to about 4 small cups. Was also a bit disappointed that they didn't leave some of the loose leaf inside the pot to make the tea richer by the time you get to the bottom of the pot, but that's just my personal preference.
This place is good and the tea is okay - would consider trying one of their fruit teas during the summer!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kia A.QUEENS VILLAGE, NY33641688Nov 26, 2019
I went here on October 6, 2019 to meet with a friend.
Location: This is right on Newbury Street . It is on a lower level so it is possible if you're not looking closely you could walk right past it. The GPS told me to take the train to Hynes which I think was a mistake. I think getting off at Copley would have been better and closer.
Interior: This is a narrow yet cute location. I would try to get here early if I came with a bunch of people (like 4 or more). They have a wall couches, seats, and small tables. They have two individual gender neutral bathrooms with really nice soap products!
Staff: The women that were working here the day I came were really nice. They were patient with me and all my questions. They even entertained me as I tried to speak to them in Mandarin.
Beverage: I ended up getting a Earl Grey latte which was good. My friend got the rooibos which she was happy with. They have a variety of sweeteners from agave to brown sugar. I was pleasantly surprised with their commitment to recycling and the environment. Everything you order takes time so you should allot time to wait for your beverage. I did not try any of the food but they had typical pastries and bagels.
Cost: The tea is a bit pricier than what you may be used to paying but the quality makes it worth every penny.
Overall: I will definitely stop by this place the next time I am in Boston for a cuppa!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 20, 2019
Read this as a 3.5 stars review.
For what it's worth, this place is a fairly new entry to the assorted shops, restaurants, and other establishments on Newbury St. I got the rooibos tea latte on my first encounter with this newly christened establishment and thought the drink was unique with a sweet, mild profile. Subtle, but definitely at the party. You get to flavor the tea with agave, honey, or sugar to your preference. The place also provides very hippish wheat straws so that's pretty cool. On my second go around, I got the earl grey tea ice cream. The tea flavor was very strong and apparent in the ice cream. Overall, this place is a pretty solid place to check out for the unique drinks and ice cream flavors. Do note that it's use of organic and pure tea among other ingredients make this place fairly pricey, so don't be too surprised when your ice cream rings out to $7 or so. The customer service I received here was fairly friendly as well. Either way, I could see that this new establishment has potential as a more relaxed, aesthetically pleasing environment to enjoy whatever you order - definitely not a place to visit if you need something in a rush. Overall, I think this is a place you would visit for one of the venues in a multi-course date or if you wanna experience tea ice cream (in the latter camp haha).

Finally they're opened!!!! I live a block away and have been so excited for this place to open because I love matcha latte's and tea in general.
I came twice since their opening 2 weeks ago, and the first time I sat outside and second time inside.
The outside seating isn't the best in terms of comfort, but it was great because I could bring my dog and they gave her a water bowl.
Inside, there are cozy booths, plenty of tables and a bar area.
I ordered a matcha latte iced and a sesame bagel with rose cream cheese. The flavors were great, I just would of preferred for the bagel to be toasted a little bit more. I also got a sticky bun which was really yummy, but again would of been better warmed a bit.
The matcha latte with oat milk was amazing.
I'm looking forward to getting a kettle of tea in the fall and doing some school work here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tara T.Boston, MA308441668Sep 27, 2019
I...didn't enjoy my experience at EgaliTea. One star for ambiance/decoration, one star for...everything else.
The good -- beautiful decoration, really fancy chairs, awesome patio seating.
The not so good -- high prices, small portions, and watery tea. My acai bowl was $14 and smaller than the bowls I get in JP and downtown Boston...so Newbury has high rents, does it taste good? Not...really. The toppings were skimpy, the acai was watery (it was honestly more like acai soup), and there was a weird, oily sheen to the liquid. My tea basically tasted like iced water, drunk near someone wearing peach-scented perfume. And my partner's avocado toast was not much more impressive.
Finally - I get with open cases and whatnot, a few flies are going to happen. I've seen them in GreCo, in Red White, in many other shops around Newbury. Still, there were like...6-8 in the fruit case among the yogurt toppings. And when we sat down, there was a massive centipede that skittered by...probably hunting those other bugs.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Janet Q.Boston, MA122103133Aug 22, 2019
Pricey drinks in a cute little cafe on Newbury. I was only here for a few minutes, but it seemed like a nice spot. It was pretty quiet and comfy looking.
Per the owner, everything is 100% organic. Still, the price for just a rose tea latte seemed rather steep (get it?). Tasty but not as good as the Green T Coffee Shop's version on Mission Hill, which is also more reasonably priced across the board.
Staff is friendly but seemingly still learning the ropes, which is somewhat forgivable as it is new. I hope Egalitea can make a few adjustments as this cafe is a nice addition to the area.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Amanda P.Boston, MA72873Aug 5, 2019
Was excited to check it out because of their eco friendly initiatives + women owned & operated.
Their prices are good for organic sourced tea. Super cute cafe too.
They brew each cup per order, I wouldn't come here if I was in a rush. More of a place where you chill with your drink.
But customer service was ok -- wasn't that warm + unsanitary way of handling cups. My barista had her fingers in my cup when she was writing her name.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information
