If you care about your home, look somewhere else. Poor workmanship. Owner does not take well to feedback, i.e., he hung up on me.
FIRST - The protective covers that the crew taped down to the floor stripped the coating upon removal. This set me back an additional $6000 to refinish the entire first floor. SECOND - I have two windows in the basement. The crew removed one of the them without my permission so that they could bring in materials from the exterior of the house down to the basement. They re-attached the window by drilling two screws to the wall that didn't exist prior. Because of this hack, water came streaming through the window during Hurricane IDA. It took 3.5 hours of wet-vacuuming during the storm to prevent damage. The other window in my basement (just 2 feet away from this one) experienced no such penetration. I notified the owner, but he assumed no responsibility. In fact, he said it was "an act of God." (I would be inclined to believe that if the other window had experienced the same problem, but it didn't.) The crew simply created a problem that hadn't existed prior. (Their solution was to pay them an additional $4k to dig deeper wells.) THIRD - Drilling of the tiles around the perimeter of the basement was done haphazardly, in a zig-zag fashion. The overall recklessness increased the cost of tile removal and replacement. FOURTH - After the crew drilled inside the utility rooms, they poured quick dry cement that left the floors patchy and no longer level. $2K to re-level the floors and repaint those rooms. FIFTH - Fingerprints, pock marks, and permanent damage to every wall. Left with no choice but to repaint everything, including the ceiling.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jenna H.San Antonio, TX02Jun 7, 2021
I would strongly advise those that are thinking about hiring this contractor to look somewhere else. We had an appointment scheduled with Doug to have him come out and give us an estimate for a horizontal crack in the basement wall of a house we're in the process of buying. They confirmed the date and time with us on multiple occasions but then never showed up on the day of. I had to take time off from work to meet with him, but he couldn't even as much as respond back once, and had my realtor and I waiting for him to arrive or at the very least answer our calls and texts. They never did respond to us. We eventually just gave up and called it after waiting a full hour after our scheduled appointment. They unfortunately just don't respect people's time. Better to just avoid the hassle and wasted time you'll get dealing with these people, they're not worth it.

Unreliable company. Called and spoke with Doug. Made an appointment for my basement water issue. No one ever showed up. Don't waste your time with them.

I had my basement 'waterproofed' in January of 2017. Since then, I have reached out about some concerns and nothing had been done about them.
The masons they used pulled their equipment across my lawn while making a wide swing into my driveway. They left big ruts in my yard, which they never fixed. The masons dumped a truck-load of stone on my driveway to use while laying the new drain piping. They didn't use it all, and they left it in my driveway. My driveway isn't paved, but it's not gravel either. Now I can't use my snowblower to clear my driveway because of it. Either the stones become projectiles and I risk taking out a window on the house or in one of the cars, or what has been happening, the stones jam in the second stage blades of the snowblower and jam it up, leaving me to drag it back to the garage and dis-lodge the stone. To date, since this work was done, every jam in the snowblower was a stone from this work done by A-1.
They installed an 'E-Z Breathe' machine and drilled a hole in the foundation for the exhaust, leaving the concrete piece they took out laying on the ground next to the house, which was also next to the window they were using that they never put the screen back into. They installed 2 sump pits with 2 sets of pumps. One pit was existing with an existing outlet for the discharge. The discharge line they installed, they dug up thru a bed of river-rock in my landscaping, leaving a mound of stone on my lawn and a pile of dirt where the stone was.
Now, it's been over a year and my pumps have never run, water has never made it to the pits and I have nothing but water stains on the new concrete that was poured when they did the job. There are dark water stains all over the floor to include white reside stains. When I reached out to them, they said this was 'Normal'.
Now, it has been 9 months now since my last email to them and I haven't heard back from them.
I would expect that with a price tag of over $14,000.00, I'd get a little better service. My regret was making the last payment before they finished their clean-up...
I recommend people shop around. When a company does nothing after collecting a check, they're not worth the time!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Alex B.Manhattan, NY02Sep 1, 2020
We recently worked with A-1 to install french drains in our basement. We were really impressed with their professionalism, speed, and quality of work. They were booked a couple of weeks out but they worked with us to create a schedule so we could get it done more quickly.

Never made it past the phone call. I was calling around to get an estimate for French drains. Since the other 2 companies I called gave quotes over the phone, I was expecting the same. Now, you are charging someone per linear foot. I have the measurements and you already know what your material and labor cost per linear foot. Do some adding and give me a figure, even ballpark. Guess this is their business practice and yes, I understand every job is different, but if a countertop guy charges $40/ sq foot for granite, and I have 10 sq feet, do the math, you don't need to come out unless your taking a template.

A-1 did a great got ventilating and sealing my crawl space. They worked fast and the price was fair. I would definitely recommend them.

I have used A-1 to put in 2 sump pumps with back up pumps in my basement with french drains. It's been a couple months and they seem to be working. Usually I get water a few times a year. So functionally I'm OK. The price was about the same as the local guys, and he stuck to the original estimate. However the work to look at was sloppy and unprofessional. For $10k I expected a job that looked right. The job itself took 2 days, as promised, to install, however it took 2 months of revisits to fix the most glaring functional, and a few cosmetic defects before I got too busy to deal with anymore, and for the final inspection by the building dept. The wall to floor plastic plates still look like crooked teeth. They are apparently designed to interlock and rest against the wall. The interlocking was missed on every single one, by several inches. In places it is against the wall and in others it is an inch away. The concrete over the drains is cracking in several places.
