So happy with the quote this firm gave us, and for the excellent coordination, design and installation from Gavin and crew on the job they did for us. Highly recommend them, from start to finish.

If I could give a worse review I would. I had to pester and pester for months just to get them to respond. They broke a stone off our retaining wall and I literally had to beg them to fix it so I could pay them and still nothing. They finally came out and within an hour it had fallen off again. When I followed up for the second time they claimed they never broke it in the first place. I gave up and am just paying them so I can end this nightmare. We have dealt with many renos over 23 years involving every type of skill and have never experienced anything like this.
The people doing the work were great, professional and courteous, if you don't have time to do the job don't accept it!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Apologies about the communication David, I believe everything is sorted out now and fixed, and if there's anything else that comes up please let us know.

My neighbours are very grateful that my boulevard has been cleaned up. Nick and Ben did a great job - quick and courteous. Took a couple days to get a quote, but the wait was well worth it.

Although it took a couple weeks to get our full day time slot added to their schedule, it was worth the wait!Apr 3, 2023Previous reviewHad an awesome experience with this company. We we're planning a last minute bridal shower and wanted to utilize our over grown back yard. The response time was great and they we're able to accommodate our timeline... without burning a hole in our pocket! Lovely couple of guys that came for the day and worked non stop - our yard was party ready and we didn't even need a follow up. I'd like to give a shout out to one young boy named Nick, every request that my picky mum made, from the fern shaping to the edges on the lawn, he got done with a smile on his face. The other guy was great too, but I can't remember his name!
Will definitely be using this accommodating company again! - 01May 1, 2023
I will NEVER recommend for anyone to deal with this company!
First and foremost, there was zero follow up post completion, which was considered a large residential job. In fact, the first time I have heard from Cory (owner) was when he reached out to be paid. They could not reconcile the project scope to the final result.
Look at the other one star reviews. Seems pretty accurate to meHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

HI Theo Van Der Linde.
For the record we were not hired by you, never worked for you. We were hired by a general contractor, and only heard of you months after project finished and we were wondering why there was no payment made. Every one of our quotes was signed off, and performed, and we did several walk throughs. There was not one issue with performance, quality, or timeliness through the entire project, and the General Contractor will attest to that. I will happily give his name out as a referral to anyone.
You came in long after job was complete questioning all the work we did, which we showed you in person (Even counting all the shrubs we put in for you matched the estimates perfectly) and you were upset that I would not give you a discount, and so you threatened a bad review. I will not be strong armed into giving you a discount for no reason on threat of a bad review. - Ajand N.Coquitlam, Canada021Jun 23, 2022
We did a big project for our backyard with GLB, which included artificial turfing as well as a custom built in around a hot tub. Overall we were happy with their services, especially the customer service. Aaron who was in charge of our project was a fantastic person to work with and he went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. We especially appreciated the fast and reliable communication we got from Aaron, who also made sure every detail we were after was taken care of. However, the project did not finish on time and it took an extra 5-6 weeks to complete. They also ran into some issues with our irrigation system but were able to fix them. Overall, we would recommend them!

Thanks Ajand! It was lovely working for you. The project took longer due to all the changes and extras that were added on to the project :) Look forward to doing your front project.

We had a patio installed by this company in October 2021. We had problems with them in more than one way.
Before the installation of the stones, a couple of trenches had to be dug for better drainage. Our security cameras told us that took no more than 45-50 hours between three workers, which ended up being the first problem as we were charged for 104 hours at the end and no amount of trying to reason helped Cory the owner to back down. Added to that, the drainage they put in ended up not being effective and we had to use a sump pump to deal with the overflow. Ultimately, another company had to be hired to remedy the drainage problem.
One of the other problems was regarding the polymeric sand that was supposed to provide a seal between the stones. To our untrained eye it was evident from the start that the sand hadn't set properly but we were told it was going to happen over time. We took their word. About a month later, we had a flood in the basement which we were told was caused by two reasons. One was that the sand had indeed not done its job of sealing the gaps between the stones and the other was that seals around the patio doors had been broken during installation of the stones and should have been redone. Not only were the seals not replaced by Great Lawns but it was never even brought to our attention, and therefore we had two very large surfaces completely exposed to water. When we called and explained what had happened, Richard from the company came and added some polymeric sand at which point, we thought we had remedied at least part of the problem, but we were wrong because we had a second flooding in the exact same way and we noticed the new sand hadn't set either.
We also had to hire someone to fix the paving stones on the side of the house, where the Great Lawns workers had wheelbarrowed in the new stones, causing the area to drop about 2 inches, which in turn started a pooling problem.
When we emailed Cory, and explained the damage their work had caused, he replied on Feb 20, saying "this email is a little unjust" referring to the problems as "these small issues" and that "Richard will call you early next week to go over the details of your email". We never heard from them.
A week after the last email, we gave up on this company having the knowledge or desire to remedy and contacted another company that came and removed all the initial sand, replacing it with sand that actually set this time. We were told the sand Great Lawns had used was cheap quality, inferior sand. Even though Cory denied this, the proof was/is in the end result.
What Cory insensitively referred to as small issues ended up costing us an additional $10,000.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Sibel,
Once the removal of the existing patio had been completed and excavations had begun it became clear
that a contributing factor of the original patio failing was the fact that the roof water was draining directly
into the base the patio, because of this we redirected the water away from the house and patio into a
soak away. This was because of a reluctance on your behalf to invest further in the drainage to allow us
to tie it into the storm water system of the house. This is a typical practice however due to the record
levels of rainfall that we received last fall it may not have been sufficient. The hours that were spent
hand digging and wheel barrowing material out of the site and into the bins located at the roadside that
had to be removed. These hours are accounted for.
As for the polymeric sand, in order for it to set properly it must be applied in dry conditions. Which it
was when it was installed, however in the days following the instillation when rain was falling it ran
off the roof over the guttering and fell directly onto the patio. It was at this location that the sand
failed to set due to it being washed out as the gutters on the house were not catching the water
probably because they had not been cleaned. We did go back to replace this sand and covered it
with tarps to allow to dry however due to the poor weather conditions at that time of year it did not
set. As always we would have been willing to come back to add more sand once more for you. To suggest we used faulty polymeric is ludacris. As for the flooding within the house we did not remove any seals that were involved with
weatherproofing the house nor touched the house in any way. We removed the patio that was positioned outside and at a lower level
to the doorway. It is typically well known that a patio is not part of the weather proofing detail of a
house and what is more likely is that due to the record levels of rainfall that we had last year was
the reason for the flooding. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY YOUR WINDOW COMPANY who we contacted when you made this statement!!!!
The paving stones at the side of the house dropped due to the base underneath them not being
adequate. This was part of the reason that the patio at the back of the house was replaced initially. We
would have happily picked them and re-laid them if it had been brought to our attention previously
however this is the first that we had heard of the issue.
We do regret not getting back to you earlier however we are extremely busy at that time
and would have come back to you as soon as possible. This was a mistake and Richard has been reprimanded as we strive to get back to people within a day or two at most. We always work to ensure that our
customers are satisfied with the finished product. We also always use high quality products,
and the reasoning for the sand not setting properly was solely due to weather conditions. - Jennifer M.North Vancouver, Canada903Sep 21, 2022
They must have been too busy this summer. Long periods of time between tasks. Nothing ever looked complete. Best communication was when they were looking to be paid - otherwise, a really frustrating experience.

Hi Jennifer, We had all the gardening/power washing and planting work done within a ten day period as we were waiting on a plant delivery and wanted to start right away for you. The hardscaping wall was a different department and occurred two weeks after that, but we made it clear from the beginning there would be a wait for that in peak season. Also, we never heard any complaints at all from the time the job was finished in June, until September despite following up on the invoice weekly for months in a row. When we found out you may not be fully happy the owner had a meeting booked with you to do a walk around, and then you guys cancelled it. Obviously not a big issue. We will not ever be arm twisted into giving a discount on work we performed three months ago, by threat of a bad review. We always go to great lengths to make our customers happy but can't help those who don't want to be helped or won't work with us. Best of luck in the future.

I had a mountain of leaves and jammed gutters, and couldn't handle the job myself. Cory and his team jumped in (on the same day!) and took care of my yard, gutters and even the leaves on the street! They were professional, efficient and quick. I'm very careful about providing people access to my home and yard, and I had no issues with inviting Great Lawns & Beyond to take care of my place. They did a GREAT JOB, and I would recommend them 100%. Thanks Cory!
