The only positive thing about my experience was that we were seated without a wait.
We were there for my birthday and it was documented in our reservation. Our server was very slow, he never asked if we were celebrating anything and on top of that he got my order wrong.
I ordered Thai yellow curry with tofu and it came out with chicken. By the time they remade my food the table was finishing theirs. I ended up packing up most of it to go.
Usually when a restaurant screws up they will comp.the meal or discount is or comp an appetizer something. Instead when the bill came the incorrect entree was on the full price and there was an added 3% restaurant service charge.
My husband and I have always enjoyed Big Bowl, and it was one of our first dates. We agreed that after our terrible experience tonight this will be our last visit there. The manager and what I believe was the GM was there too and no one asked how our meal was when we left, or offered an apology when they brought the correct meal. A truly disappointing experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 21, 2023Updated review
This was our first opportunity to use gift cards the restaurant had sent us to compensate for our previous ummm ... misadventure here. At least this time our server was more attentive. Our meal began with vegetable wonton soup. It was surprisingly meh, on the bland side. The peanut chicken egg rolls were comparable to the Cantonese neighborhood restaurant version. Well, at $10.95, they'd better be.
The three of us ordered various beef dishes. On our previous visit, the runner plunked our entrees down without asking who ordered what. Well, guess what? This time, the runner plunked our entrees down without asking who ordered what! There were a couple anxious moments until we got the similar-in-appearance dishes sorted out. All contained an excess of sauce but were otherwise very good. Well, at double the neighborhood chop suey joint prices, they'd better be good.
On our previous visit, the server neglected to process our Frequent Diner points. I had to email the restaurant manager and then follow up with a reminder before this was finally corrected. Well, guess what? Once again, the server neglected to process our Frequent Diner points and I had to email the restaurant manager. But this time, it took 3 emails and 12 days until the points were finally credited. Holy crapola, Big Bowl managed to duplicate our previous experience almost exactly!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Sep 20, 2022Previous reviewSome establishments handle post-pandemic staff shortages and supply chain issues better than others. Pleased with the Lincolnshire Big Bowl in the past, on this visit we had a less-than-great experience.
There were three in our party. Our server was polite but inept and needed constant prompting. My Missus, who cannot tolerate very spicy foods, inquired about the spice level of the hot & sour soup. He assured her it was mild, with just a "slight kick." Well, the "slight kick" almost sent her flying across the room. The soup had a measurable layer of ground black pepper floating on top and she nearly gagged on the first spoonful. She sent this back and ordered won ton soup instead. It took so long for the replacement to arrive that our entrées came before she could finish the soup.
The runners who brought our entrees hurriedly plunked them down without asking who ordered what. Only after sorting things out did we observe that one of the entrées was wrong (chicken instead of shrimp). This had to be sent back to be remade. All three entrees might have been okay had they not been overpowered by an excess of gloppy, pungent sauce. We expressed our disappointment to our server, who responded with a blasé, "I will let the chef know."
We again had to flag down our server to correct the bill because he charged my Missus for both soups. I did the Scratch-Off promotion (triple points!) and provided my Lettuce Eats Mobile Code. However, I never received a confirmation email. Logging into my account, I observed that the transaction and Scratch-Off were posted but zero points had been added. Yeah, the server botched that, too!
Considering that Big Bowl's menu prices average roughly 30% more than typical prices at family-operated Asian neighborhood restaurants, subpar food and service are not acceptable here. I contacted the manager about our experience. Appreciative of my feedback, he apologized, credited the missing 3x points to our Frequent Diner account, and also sent us gift cards for future use. Accordingly, I have upgraded this review from one to three stars. - Sep 18, 2023
I think Big Bowl's rating of 3.5 stars is very accurate. The restaurant can be summed in three sentences: Service was great, food and ambiance was mediocre, and prices are high. Our waiter was great and very attentive, and there was definitely no complaints there.
I ordered the dumpling wonton soup as appetizer. The soup was actually really good and I definitely recommend it. For the mains, we ordered Mongolian beef and kung pao chicken and I got 1 alcoholic drink. Both entrees were very flavorful but way too salty. I had to order an extra bowl of white rice to balance out the salt and couldn't finish.
All in all the bill was $95 including tip, which is pretty hefty for two entrees, an appetizer, and a drink- and portions weren't even that big. I see complaints on here about the prices and definitely agree. I overheard the family in table next to us complain about the prices as well as they got the check.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 3, 2024Updated review8 check-ins
Came for a birthday and was happy to see the make your own stir fry is back! I got mine with shrimp & teriyaki sauce. It was so so good! I was blown away by how much shrimp there was! So tasty! They also gave a dessert on the house for the birthday which was another nice surprise!

Perfectly steamed and just enough crispiness. The inside is full of ingredients. I ordered the chicken pad Thai add veggies and that's what I usually get. This time it was incredibly hot and I like hot. It was almost inedible. I did hear another table mention the same thing. The recipe has definitely changed. It was full of veggies and chicken. My son and SO both loved their dishes (king pao tofu & a spicy beef dish. Prices are good for the amount of food you get.
May 24, 2021Previous reviewOrdered carry out for my sig other while I got carry out next door. Love that the website breaks out vegetarian options. He likes a dish with noodles instead of rice so we had to call it in but it was super easy. He got the Kung pao tofu dish (that he always gets) and the new noodle app. He really enjoyed both.
May 5, 2019Previous reviewCame in because the significant other had a taste for their food. He got what he always gets (he orders off the menu, it's a dish they used to make many many years ago) and it's usually great. I try to try different things. Most things are good. If they're aren't, that's more in me and my taste buds as the food is usually cooked right.
Jul 14, 2018Previous reviewThe food is always great but the last couple times the service was just sub-par. The waiters were awkward... trying too hard (trying to be funny but they come across as a bit rude. Meaning not funny but smiling to try to make it funny. but comes up short). Drinks take way too long and the time before last we saw my beer... just a beer sitting on the bar and had to find a waiter to find our waiter to get my beer. Again... food is always on point! Every time.
Oct 16, 2014Previous reviewI like Big Bowl. We go about once or twice a year to this location. I always have left overs and it always seems like I don't get all my leftovers. Well, suspicion confirmed! I made sure to put a line wedge (not used) on top of my food. They took my plate and gave me my leftovers. Today I made them for lunch and no lime wedge! So I didn't get all
My food that was leftover or the server touched my food to take the lime wedge off. Which again, I didn't get all my food! Either way, that is not right! Going forward I will ask for the box to do it myself! This was on 10/15/14 - Mike N.Vernon Hills, IL820May 15, 2024
Big bowl is another garbage lettuce, entertain you restaurant. Food is awful there. Will not return ever.

Great service, great food; some of our party ordered an entree and some went to the stir fry bar; all the food was excellent; an enjoyable experience. (Don't blame the server for the automatically added 3% entertainment tax. I noticed other customers complaining about it....It is not the servers' doing. Just request that they take it off the bill, and they gladly will.)

Unfortunately, the "Big Bowl" has joined its "Lettuce Entertain You" corporate sibling "Wildfire" in scamming its customers with 'hidden' 3% surcharge, see the attached photo and related review at https://www.yelp.com/biz/wildfire-lincolnshire?hrid=Ry_zMdXQ_iaSrb5oDEwsmw. Translating the message to plain English, it means this: "Inflation affects us as everybody else. Instead of honestly increasing prices and showing them on the menu, we decided that our customers are particularly stupid and gullible, so we will sell them $20 dish and charge them $20.60. Hope they will not notice."
The food was decent except for the hot-'n-sour soup, which was bland and contained undissolved clumps of starch. Generally, prices at
"Big Bowl" are higher than in comparable oriental cuisine establishments. The decor is clean, but somewhat dated.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 76166562Jun 11, 2023
Ahà Tuna Bowl was good overall. Small amount of rice. Tuna itself was good. Spicy mayo was the winner. Seaweed salad was delish. Sweet glaze wasn't that appreciable. A little pricy for a poke bowl. Service was excellent and professional.

Went as a group of 4 with my coworkers. We made a reservation and arrived right at opening and were promptly seated. The space started to get busy so I would suggest the reservation.
I ordered the Big Bowl Chopped Salad. It was just okay. Not bad but nothing to write home about. I feel it was a bit overpriced at $17 but I wasn't paying. My coworkers enjoyed their food so I will give them another try with a different menu item.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
