Q:
I would like to have a conversation with someone about the recent water heater install. I'm interested in the breakdown of the charge to see how much was labor and how much was parts.
A:
It would depend on what type and size and location and access and code upgrades

I've been fortunate enough to use Black Mountain Plumbing 5 times over the years for a variety of jobs and once again today. They were able to schedule me in for a garbage disposal swap within 2 business days.
Robert arrived early in the range, with a 15-minute text notice and phone call - very pro! Problem was diagnosed and confirmed within a few minutes, and the swap took less than 30 minutes more. I remain big fans of this company and the way they do business. I'm highly confident I'll never use another plumber, he and the Black Mtn Plumbing crew are THAT good! Highly recommended!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Henry ..San Francisco, CA011Dec 3, 2023
The plumber from Black Mountain Plumbing in San Diego was hired to install a kitchen sink faucet. After the installation, hot water did not come out while cold water flowed normally. The plumber claimed that the pressure regulator valve must be replaced (a job of $589). I pointed out that hot water in the bathroom near by worked fine. I asked him to explain why the pressure regulator valve does not affect the hot water in other places in the house. He started raising his voice and said that I know nothing about plumbing. I decline his request to replace the pressure regulator valve. I paid $316 for his bad faucet installation job and let him go.
The next day, I hired a plumber from a different company to check the faucet installation. It turns out that the guy from Black Mountain Plumbing had the hot water tube pinched by the socket (the hot water tube was outside of the socket. See the attached picture). Both I and the second plumber agreed that the pinching seems to be done intentionally to blackmail me for another big job. Because no plumbers would have missed the pinching while tightening the socket, or while checking the hot water issue.Helpful 4Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - Laura H.San Diego, CA1057Feb 28, 2024
I debated posting this for a very long time because I genuinely thought the work that BMP had done for us in the past was amazing. To the point that I recommended them to several different friends. However, a few months ago we hired BMP to remove a leaking water heater from our home. Upon arrival we asked the gentleman to please wear a mask in our space. We were rudely told he would not be wearing a mask and barged right on into our home before I could remove our medically fragile kids. I'm leaving a 1 star so the company knows how its employees are treating people who may need accommodations. You never know what may be happening in someone else's lives and the refusal to wear a mask while in our space was extremely disappointing. We will never hire them for any work in the future and I'm leaving this here as a warning to others who may have kids with cancer or any other medical frailty that this is not the company to hire.

24 hour service is a lie. I had a water heater that just sprung a leak and called Black Mountain. I had been a customer for several years, but they told me they didn't "really" have 24 hour service and I would have to wait until the next day. When I finally called back the next day, they refused to come. I won't be going back to Black Mountain Plumbing, and I recommend you don't either.

You ever have that Tuesday after a holiday weekend where you feel like the universe is going to absolutely punish you in exchange for a few relaxing days off? Like that one post Memorial Day week a long time ago where my body decided that kidney stones were a good idea. What is it with this weekend attacking my plumbing?
I'm getting ahead of myself.
Plumbing. My wife got up early - as nurses tend to do - to begin her day. When she started the water in our bathroom ... it sounded a bit like an incredibly angry psychopath was trying to violently shake apart our plumbing. While I found this sound to be upsetting, our dog was outright enraged. He let me know that this was to stop immediately and that he expected me to call in a plumber as soon 8AM rolled around (did I mention this was all going down at 5:20 AM?).
So yeah, pluming once again under attack after a long holiday weekend.
Okay, I might be blaming this on the universe, but I will grant the universe this: the solution was also waiting for me on the doorstop this morning. Our community newsletter was there, and within it, the number to Black Mountain Plumbing.
I don't really like making phone calls, but my dog (the one insisting this get fixed IMMEDIATELY) also will not make these calls. So I relented and got through right away. Daniel was available and in the area, and get this ... would be over ASAP.
A few tests later, the problem was identified. By 10:30 AM, the violent shaking pipes had been calmed by a new pressure regulator (I wish they made this for humans, BTW). Daniel also fixed an unrelated issue with the lack of hot water in my shower.
Everyone I worked with was very helpful and honest. My dog is no longer giving me dirty looks. And I still have the majority of this post-holiday Tuesday to enjoy.
I'm not a fan of days beginning like this one did, but I am a huge fan companies like this who show up and do an amazing job and set things right.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stefan M.San Diego, CA14Aug 18, 2023

I called Black Mountain Plumbing to get a quote to replace a 40 gallon gas water heater. They quoted me just over $3600.00 to replace it with a comparable water heater which included haul away of the old one. I went with another local plumber who charged exactly half of what Black Mountain Plumbing wanted to charge. Make sure you get other quotes so you do not get ripped off.

We called them for emergency service for a simple clogged kitchen sink drain on a Saturday morning at 11am. I told them I want it done today. They said they can make it at 4-5pm. They said $200 fee just to come out, then $250/hr. Crazy high, but I was busy and didn't feel like getting a bunch of quotes -- so I said ok. At least they'll show up since I'm paying am arm and a leg right?
Wrong. An hour before they were supposed to show up, they called to tell me they can't make it and have to reschedule for tomorrow. Does this company not understand what emergency service is? You have to wait half a day to tell me you can't come? And it was scheduled for 4pm -- you can't unclog a drain at 7pm? 8pm? 10pm? What is the $200 emergency fee for? If you're double booked and too busy just let your customers know so they can call someone else who can come -- that's why I asked for emergency service!
But ok, I get it. Things just get crazy sometimes, but you'll never guess what they said next. They said they can reschedule me for tomorrow -- I said ok fine, then they said, we're going to need your credit card number right now for the $200 emergency fee! I was like... what do you mean? You're the one rescheduling -- you're going to charge me? They said, if they're on their way tomorrow and I cancel, they will charge me the $200.
Are these people serious? I called for emergency service and agreed to exorbitant prices. They couldn't deliver on fast service, wasted my day, tried to reschedule AND attempt to lock in their $200. They were only interested in the $200 and my needs as their customer were the last thing on their mind.
I had a feeling that this would drag on till Monday because that's just the vibe I got so I politely declined. I called up another company who showed up on time the first thing in the morning and got it done quick. And no surprise -- the other company charged waaaaay less even for emergency service.
To management -- here's a hint. If someone calls you for emergency service they want it done quick. If you probably can't make it, just tell them to call someone else. If something unexpected happened and you can't make it, tell them you're sorry, that you'll be there first thing next morning, and wave the emergency fee because YOU MESSED UP and YOU INCONVENIENCED YOUR CUSTOMER who could have had their problem fixed already by someone else. Your company did the opposite of that and instead was only thinking about yourself and tried to lock in the emergency fee. lol what a joke.
To everyone else -- call someone else lolHelpful 6Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - Marcy V.Marina del Rey, CA11882May 21, 2023
Carlos was very conscientious and did a fabulous job. He answered all of our questions despite it being 10pm on a Friday night.
Extremely pleased and we will be using Black Mtn Plumbing from now on. Due to their cost savings and service we ditched our plumber we used for 25+ years. I never thought I would switch.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chelsea Z.San Diego, CA04Nov 21, 2023
Appointment for shower tap since no hot water coming out. Technician had all details of the issue and pictures and brand of the tap. When onsite, he instantly gave us the close to $600 fee by just taking a look at the tap. I mean, if no investigation/diagnosis is needed on site, he could just give us the fee quote on the phone. That would save him the trip and us the wait and the $49 service fee we had to pay.
