Had a very good first impression with John V, owner. Received an in person estimate(a little higher than others) for a kitchen backsplash, and was going to hire his company. John requires a contract and agreement to cover his payments and work, which is fine. However, if you'd like to include dates that are agreeable to your work schedule, he's not flexible. His time for completing projects is based on his availability, which was in about a month at the time. You would need to be on his schedule, or he will charge additional fees (unless you leave your house key). I wanted to work around my work schedule when I am available, a beginning start date, but he couldn't give me a start date, just could put me in line. There are also fees for extra labor and materials.( We didn't see the color of grout he was going to use written in the contract- we don't know if there would be a fee if we changed color) Just read your contract, he seems to be an excellent tile installer. He didn't want to include our requests of agreed upon written start date, so we went with another experienced and great reviews Escondido contractor listed in Yelp. We had installation date set immediately, and fantastic, precise, and beautiful work completed within two weeks. No upfront fees, no additional fees.

We were looking to change a bathtub insert into a shower. John answered our request right away and was able to give us a solid idea of what it would cost, along with a timeline. He walked us through each step, always helping when we had questions. Jacob always showed up as scheduled and left the area clean and organized. The project turned out better than we could've imagined. Their work is the highest of quality, which was important to us. The shower is beautiful. We will definitely hire them again when we are ready for our next tile project.

I'll post photos, as they say much more than I could. Jacob was fantastic. was professional during the bid process, was clear and reasonable through out the project as I made modifications and added work, he worked hard, started when he said he would, finished when he said he would... I could say a lot more, but bottom line: he really cares, loves what he does, takes pride in his work and it shows. I already hired him a second time to do my kitchen, and I recommend him with confidence to anyone looking for his type of expertise.

Requested a bid to complete approx 800 sq ft of 8x48 porcelain tile. Jacob came to the house and we were immediately impressed with his straight forward and professional assessment and bid. The job required removing areas of carpeting and removal of existing ceramic tile. Jacob and his team worked a total of 5 days, starting promptly at 7:30. He even took care of my dog while I was not at home.

I can't tell you enough how pleased we are with the integrity of their workmanship and customer service- they do an A+ job. Their skill set, knowledge and commitment to doing a great job is evident in the completed project. Each day, the job site was left neat and clean. Jacob delivered 100% on what he said he would do- he is reliable, honest and stays true to his word.

I don't even know what to say here, really. I described a fairly straight-forward job - a shower tile installation. At some point in the convo he said something about wanting to do all plumbing (drains, supply lines) himself, and complained that anything at all was already done (well known local hotmopper had already done the hotmopping). He said he'd come by the next evening to give me a quote.

An hour or so before he was to arrive, he sent me a text saying he had too many projects right now, and was going to pass on the job. I hadn't even given him a timeline, so that struck me as weird. So I looked him up on California's contractor license and yeah, he has a C-54...which doesn't even cover plumbing, the thing he practically insisted on doing.

Maybe others have had good experiences, but...

We had a need to redo an aging bathroom, updating tile and plumbing in the process. We tried Angie's list, Google, etc. and found that most contractors were either non responsive or simply too busy to complete what we thought was a large job.

We found Custom Tile work and John while driving on the freeway and seeing his truck. He responded immediately and we are so pleased he did.

John is the most professional contractor I have ever used. He quoted me a more than fair price and handled everything else. He was on time every day and we love how our work turned out.

His work was so good that our shower door company said it was the best tile work they have seen and we have received nothing but compliments.

Jake and John at Custom Tile Work did an outstanding job on my bathroom remodel and kitchen counter backsplash. The craftsmanship of the tile work is exactly if not better than what I had hoped for. There was a small hiccup with a missing part from the shower system, but Jake made sure to track down the part and took care of it all. The shower works perfect and the bathroom looks amazing. I could not be happier with the service and the final product. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for custom tile work, and if I do this again on another home, I would definitely hire this company again.

John Varela and his grandson Giovanni installed new backsplash tiles and a marble window surround in my kitchen and wine bar areas. Their work was outstanding! I am so happy with the result I almost can't wait to share photos on Yelp - if only I can figure out how. John has a great sense of humor and is and a lot of fun to have in the house. He is definitely a master craftsman. His estimated completion time was pretty much on the mark, and he consulted me regarding how to handle certain things like removal of wood moulding and edges of the mosaic tile. He arrived and left in a timely manner and has an excellent work ethic. The Varela family clearly takes pride in their work!

We had 3 different people come out and give us a quote on doing a stone wall around our fireplace. John was the nicest, most honest, and reasonably priced so of course we went with him. His work is amazing! He showed up on time every morning and worked really hard to make sure it was perfect and what we wanted. We absolutely love the end result and will be calling him to redo our bathroom floor.
