What brand of vegan cheese is used in the restaurant?
A:
Hi, Tamara! We use shredded vegan cheddar from our friends at Vida's Butcher, located right here in Columbus. Thanks for your question!

Step into the vibrant realm of Dirty Franks Hot Dog Palace, where the art of crafting hot dogs transcends the ordinary into the extraordinary. Nestled in the heart of downtown Columbus, Ohio, this culinary sanctuary promises an unforgettable dining experience that tantalizes the taste buds and ignites the senses.
Upon entering Dirty Franks, you're immediately enveloped in a kaleidoscope of colors and eclectic decor.
The staff at Dirty Franks epitomize hospitality at its finest. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted with warm smiles and genuine enthusiasm that instantly makes you feel like a cherished guest.
For dinner, I had the pleasure of indulging in the Fried Mac and Cheese Hot Dog paired with a refreshing Berry Cider and a side of crispy Tater Tots. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, with the savory richness of the mac and cheese perfectly complementing the juicy hot dog nestled within a toasted bun. The crispy exterior of the mac and cheese added a delightful crunch, while the tangy sweetness of the berry cider provided a refreshing contrast.
With its vibrant ambiance, impeccable service, and mouthwatering fare, it's no wonder that patrons flock from near and far to experience the magic of this beloved establishment. Whether you're a hot dog aficionado or simply seeking an unforgettable dining adventure, Dirty Franks promises to delight, inspire, and leave you craving for more.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 16, 2024Updated review
It's been some time since I've visited - I've done a couple lunches here, and every time? The service has been great, the dogs have been tasty, and they have REVAMPED the menu!
Some of my favorite dogs are gone (no more kimchi!) but others have been added - takis! - and they still just hit the spot.
A full dog that doesn't leave you with more bun.
Their kitchen staff was running around like crazy with a full house outside, my buddy and I sat at the bar (perfect, IMO) and enjoyed a couple dogs.
I'm glad they're opening on campus, because they're clearly ready to branch out a bit (and then they'll be closer to me!)
Thanks for sticking the landing and coming back!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Dec 3, 2021Previous reviewFirst time since pre-pandemic.
Yes, it's rearranged. Less bar seating. Yes, you need a mask (yay!)
And the service is too notch.
Popped in for lunch dogs, and was in, fed, and out.
Fast, fresh, tasty dogs - which is exactly what I wanted.
The dirty franks I used to know is back!Oct 9, 2017Previous reviewThe past few times have slowly been getting better and better.
They're on an upward trend of better service and consistency. It's the Dirty Frank's I knew from oh-so-long-ago!
Granted, I swapped the Seoul dog for the Mac attack, but the food continues to be simple and delicious. The Kate night staff is more friendly and talkative.
So yeah, I'll keep coming back, and I'll keep updating while I drink whiskey and rootbeer.Sep 13, 2017Previous reviewLying to your customers doesn't suit you.
I've been coming here for years.
Classy lady. Seoul dog. Whiskey and rootbeer.
When you give me a dog with kimchi and hot sauce that isn't sriracha (and try to bullshit me about other hot hot dogs) is just insulting. Especially when I listened to you talk behind the counter about giving a non-vegan dog to a vegan "after telling the kitchen to insure it was vegan."
This rating is purely an average. Sometimes it's good. Sometimes it's mediocre. But for fuck's sake. Don't bullshit.Jun 7, 2017Previous reviewIt's time for a deserved update.
Solo, with company, lunch, dinner - service has been great and on top of it. The bartenders are fantastic, and the food is still consistent and cheap. And it's fucking hot dogs and tots people - this isn't gourmet, so I don't know why people still act like these are supposed to be something above and beyond hot dogs. I mean, they're still good - but they're just hot dogs. Adjust your expectations accordingly.
I have had one food mistake (wrong dog delivered) and they were quick to remedy it. The bartender is always on top of keeping my root beer and whiskey at the ready. They're always on top of cleaning tables (busy or not) so it's been a pleasant experience.
Plain and simple, Dirty Frank's is still my secret love for simple eats. Classy Lady, a Seoul Dog, or maybe the special of the day.Jul 2, 2014Previous reviewIt's time for the yearly update.
As it has "waned" in popularity, you can actually catch it on weeknights and not have to wait (or grab a seat at the bar) without waiting an hour. That used to be the "big" complaint.
Next up: late night. It still stands - they close well before the posted times, at random, so "call before you come" if it's after midnight.
I've come in the evening, I came after comfest, I came Sunday afternoon with two kids in tow. Service was *awesome* post comfest Sunday night, service with two kids was a little slow (they were busy, so I can't complain, and the staff was awesome with the baby in my company). Occasionally during the week, I've came "later" (not after midnight) and service has been great.
The food has returned to consistency-I don't feel like my classy lady has become classless, the seoul dog still has seoul (ba-dum-tish). I feel like the kitchen has come back alive again.Aug 2, 2013Previous review...okay... Waiting 30 minutes for a beer is unacceptable no matter where you go.
Dirty Franks is slowly becoming that place you don't go if you're Hungary, thirsty, or... Well, don't go there late at night. I dread what service will be like when 16-bit arcade opens up.
The service gets worse and worse. The food... Well, it's hot dogs, so we can't get "worse" just slow. And it's getting slow. This awesome place is becoming a bigger disappointment every time I come here.
Or, you know, not giving beer at all, and leaving off all the cheese off the totchos. No cheese. At all. Sad.Apr 29, 2013Previous reviewI love DF. I do. I've come here many a night when they first opened, after the bars closed (or close to it), took long lunches to deal with their waiting times, crammed too many people in to my car for lunch, and driven from Polaris just to grab a couple dogs with friends.
But now? I'm shaving two stars off. They post their hours as open until 230am - but their kitchen closes way earlier-we were told 1:30am, but they would let us be "the last customers" as the bar closes at 2. With the signs posted open until 2:30am. On a Friday.
If they could straighten their hours out, and decide when they want to be open, maybe I'll be more forgiving.Mar 23, 2011Previous reviewI likd hot dogs before they were cool. Hot dogs have gone mainstream. That is the epitome of Dirty Franks - a hipster hotfog heaven.
It's not fancy food, it's fucking awesome food. Hot dogs with tons of toppings, side items that are meals by themselves, vodka slushies, and a great beer selection - coupled with a casual atmosphere, artwork on the walls, and local music on the stereo - it's just a great place to grab a bite and hang out.

I've caught karaoke night, and it's an awesome, weird crowd mix. Old people, young people, singing everything.
The food (for me) has always been hot and consistent with every visit. The only downside is the place is still too popular! You have to find the sweet spot time to get there, get good parking and be sat as you walk in the door. This is usually about 10:30 on a weeknight. - 164139430Oct 14, 2023
Lots of fun options for a hot dog. Cute spot for a chill casual date or takeout or a meet-up with your bestie.
The chili cheese dog was good, steak fries perfect, tots nice and crispy. The hot dog flavor seemed a bit diluted, like they were boiled maybe? Or maybe it's the Vienna brand? I prefer grilled all beef franks to preserve the juicy flavor inside, and that burst with that first bite.
I can't remember the name of the other hot dog I got...I think it was the spicy slaw. I would have preferred more crunch to the slaw but that's just me probably.
I'd definitely go back when in the mood for a downtown dog.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 27, 2023
Dirty Frank's is basically a Columbus establishment. Its a quick and easy place to go for hotdogs and fried sides. Everyone's always friendly and can give you a rundown of the menu and various options. They have a large list of various hotdogs you can have or you can make your own with adding various toppings of your choice. I personally enjoy their tots a lot as they're always so crispy and hot and not many places have tots.

I was in town for a quick getaway. Saw this place with a lot of good reviews, and it didn't disappoint. Soo many options to choose from. One hot dog was enough for me cuz of all the fixens, but my boy was really hungry and double dogged it. He said it was a perfect amount. And my boy doesn'Slappy Pappy 's Super Sloppyt eat a lot. Nothing like a fancy glizzy! That's pretty much it...
Pros:
- SO MANY OPTIONS! and they're totally willing to customize different options
- Root beer float and whipped pinnacle is to die for!
Cons:
- Minimal seating inside; this is probably only an issue on crazy busy nights! We stopped on a week night and had no issues getting a table!
- Small diner like area with a fully stocked barHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 54050Dec 12, 2023
I worked at a hotdog restaurant for three years. I feel uniquely equipped to review Dirty Franks. Please accept my fullest recommendation for this wiener slinging winner.
The dogs are good, with plenty of options to customize your experience. All served on fluffy sesame buns, and with tons of combos available. My only critique is that the casing on the weiners is a smidge tougher than most other dogs I've tried. It's a small sin.
The prices are great for downtown. $15 and you'll eat like a king. $7 and you'll leave satisfied.
I can only imagine this place would be even better if your stumbling in from a nearby bar.
Service is quick and out of your way.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 1074342073Jun 5, 2023
My first time trying Dirty Frank's Hot Dog is at the Columbus Crew game. So glad to try them out in the shop so soon.
The shop is intimate with both bar and table seating. The staffs are super nice and welcoming. I love their portrait art hang on the wall with different famous music band the singers.
Their menu have a huge selection on different variety of Hog Dog and you can always build your own Hot Dog. Once you get your order in, the food came out very fast. I got their Hot Mama Dog as part of their Yelp special, with a side order of the Chili Mac.
The Hot Mama Dog is totally super hot [for my low spicy tolerance] which have fire kraut, giardiniera, jalapenos and sriracha cream cheese. For me, I have to get some of the toppings off. Even after my first bite, my mouth is burning and start tearing If you like spicy, you would love this combo.
Their Chili Mac taste good as well and I love it topped with green scallions. However, it is luke warm when it came out and it would be perfect if it is hot.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jul 27, 2023
This place is awesome! It was recommended via group shouting at a live podcast recording I was attending nearby, and I figure if that many folks were keen to suggest it, it was probably for good reason.
And it was.
I rarely struggle with having a vegetarian diet, but hot dogs hold a special place in my heart -- and in particular, West Virginia-style hot dogs. So when I saw that Dirty Frank's not only had vegetarian options but a vegetarian West Virginia dog option? I could barely contain my happiness.
Thankfully, it lived up to my expectation. It was a wonderful spin on the hot dog stand hot dogs of my childhood to the point where I couldn't stop grinning while digging in. I think the fries were good, too, and I remember there being a solid drink selection, but honestly? The hot dogs stole my heart and took over my memories of the visit.
I can't wait to go back. The next time I'm passing through Ohio, I'll try my best to detour through Columbus just for these wieners alone.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
