I made the unfortunate mistake of signing a contract with Genevieve Wall to be the attorney for my Dads probate after he passed away in Southern California. Ms. Wall at first presents a wonderful seemingly caring and warm first impression on the phone for a free consultation. At first she's all sympathetic that this is a tough time after a death in the family and wants to know how you're holding up. After contracts are signed then things start changing really quickly. From my experience, once a contract is signed she acts exclusively and consistently in her own self-interests, not her clients. Unfortunately she's not someone who will listen to your concerns, take the time to understand your situation, or even let you ask questions without interrupting you mid-sentence (multiple times!) to tell you what she wants you to do, and you'd better hurry up because she's been patient with you. Seriously, you will not hear the end of how much she's "been patient with you". After a few months of that I just gave up on phone calls with her and exclusively used emails. I specifically feel taken advantage of from her for getting very very pushy for me to artificially inflate the value of a the estate (ignored the mortgage on a house, so she can say the estate is worth more, so she gets paid more) and tried to get me to close the estate as quickly as possible (so she get paid quickly, I assume) even though it would have been counterproductive to what the other professional advise I received at the time was. At least that's been my unfortunate experience with her.
One other side note for if you're like me and trying to do probate from out of state. In your phone consultation if you're worried about having to go into the court in person on weekdays when you need to be at work but she "reassures" you that she'll go to the court for you. Yeah, she didn't even go, in my case. Nothing illegal there, attorneys just have the option of submitting court paperwork via the mail whereas we civilians don't. She obviously didn't tell me that until afterwards. There wasn't a problem with the paperwork or anything like that, I just mention this because it means that you don't have to get a California attorney who's offices are adjacent to the courthouse in your deceased relatives county. I'd recommend you instead go with a CA attorney that you can get a personal recommendation for or who has a lot of good reviews.
Good luck to you if you've already signed a contract with her. If you haven't signed a contract with her but have been thinking about it, run away! I can't even tell you how much I wish I had.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Melanie And Mike P.Castle Rock, CO04Oct 8, 2019First to Review
I've just had a free phone consult with Geneieve Wall and she was articulate, intelligent and knowledgeable in the legal area of Advanced directives, and Power of Attorney matters! If I have to retain a lawyer for my mom or her assets, I'm heading straight to her office!!
