After I got engaged my coworker told me about this bridal shop. I have always been into helping out local businesses and I knew I didn't want to go to David's Bridal. I browsed through the designers they carried at the shop and found my dream dress. When I got the the bridal shop I showed Maggie exactly what dress I had in mind. She had the dresses cousin (same style dress different lace). I first tried on the dresses my bridesmaids picked out but as soon as I put the dress I picked out I knew it was the one. Maggie took my measurements and asked if I planned to lose any weight (it was about 11 months before the wedding) and I said yes a little so she put down a little smaller on the measurements. When the dress came in it was more beautiful than I ever dreamed of and it fit almost perfectly! It only needed a slight alteration in the boob area where it was just a tad big. She made the alterations and then it fit like a glove! The dress was absolutely perfect! Being a strapless dress I was worried about having to pull it up constantly, but not ONCE did I need to pull it up! It was perfect!! I cannot thank Maggie and her cute little bridal shop enough for the most perfect dress for my wedding day!!

DISASTER from day 1. Should have never come back after my first visit. I'll start with the worst. I specifically told the store to order my bridesmaid dress a size smaller anticipating to lose 7-10 lbs and a size. I picked up my dress expecting it to be too small as I had not lost the weight. When I did try it on I found it was 2 sizes too large and I have now spent $80 in alterations to correct their mistake. I called the store and there was no offer of a solution.
When I first made an appointment to try bridesmaid dresses and select for the party, I provided style numbers for the dresses I wanted to see and was guaranteed they would be available. Upon arrival I learned the owner had sold 2 of them to make a profit on the samples. Then, after trying on the 3 available, which took about 15 minutes, I was told I could not stay and browse for the remainder of the hour appointment I made and that I would have to call with more style numbers.
Lastly, the owner is dishonest about prices of dresses. When I asked the cost of the dress, she very secretly opened the style book, making sure I would not see the price. I caught a glimpse of other dresses by the same designer and all were about $50-60 less than she quoted.
The icing on the cake, as if needed, the store is dirty, disorganised and the owner is rude and short.
I highly, highly suggest you go elsewhere. The only reason this even got 1 star is because it's required to assign stars to write a review.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Lexi,
I am really sorry that you felt so frustrated before talking to me. I really hope you would have came to me sooner and that you understood what I explained to you about the sizing. Your hip size indicated that you needed a size 16. You requested one size smaller and I went ahead an ordered the size 12. I also hope that you would have came to me for alterations because I only charge my customers $20 to alter the top. We look forward to helping you in the future.
Thank you for your understanding,
Maggie - Venus S.Bayonne, NJ20237Sep 1, 2017

Thank god for Maggie!
I had the pleasure of being introduced to Maggie through a friend to order and have my dress tailored. Maggie is an artist and helped me to perfect my dress with her own subtle but elegant altering touches. I fell in love with my dress (Sottero and Midgley collaberation: "Adorae") because of the gorgeous rushing and pleats that mimicked swirls of water. If you look towards the bottom of the dress, Maggie added additional "swirls," and created a customized touch. She was also very kind and fair with regard to pricing.
Thank you so much Maggie for helping me to create the dress of my dreams.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rinda S.Irvine, CA119542Aug 23, 2011
I'm surprised to see many 1-star ratings for this place. Yeah, so it's small, super packed, and is owned by a husband and wife. It gets the job done.
Of all the bridal shops I went to in hopes of finding the right one, this one did its job for me. Maggie was super sweet and patient. After going to the big bridal shops in Orange County, I was sick of the snooty-ness of sales associates in those shops glancing at me like I'm a kid playing dress-up (I look about 10 years younger than my age), while serving other girls who came in with their moms as I walked in on my own, ready to buy on the spot as soon as I found the right one. My work schedule was so busy that it was hard to accommodate my bridesmaids' schedule so I can have a "fan club" while trying on 20+ dresses at every shop. So that's why I liked this shop better - better service and attention.
Maggie took her time with me, even though it was near closing time. She knows her dresses and pulled out the dresses that she thought would fit me best even though I didn't ask for them specifically. She also carries the same brands as the bigger bridal shops.
The dress I ended up getting was made by Anjolique. What's also great was that Maggie ran a special that weekend only and I got a steal for it! Just my luck! I had tried on over 60 dresses at other big shops in search of the best fit for my petite hour-glass frame, and low and behold, this mermaid dress sealed the deal. And the price was lower than all the bigger shops too!
We were only engaged for 6 months and I went in 4 months before my actual wedding date to find a dress. Maggie was stressed out because that's usually the quickest most brands take orders - otherwise it would've had to be rushed. She was able to get it in time for my wedding, with time for alterations too.
Tip: For the price, buy your dress here after trying on at other places. Don't get your dress altered here though. Although I did not have to shorten my dress - I had to have the bodice taken in where the inside corset had to be adjusted too. I'm not a pro at sewing, but the work is not clean or great. The cut in the fabric should have been cleaned up with an over-lock machine prior to making the adjustments. This was not done. Where most bridal shops get you is in the alterations. Her alterations were lower than the others, but the quality suffers as well.
I'm taking off 1 star because of the alteration quality. Otherwise, I definitely recommend this place to other girls who already know what they're looking for and just waiting to buy at the right price.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jennifer K.El Segundo, CA1102Jul 17, 2013
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I called twice to schedule an appointment. The gentleman who answered the phone said he would call me back and never did. So I showed up in the store to look at bridesmaid dresses. I found the one I wanted and made an appointment to go in with my bridesmaids on Sunday at 1. Maggie said they aren't normally open Sunday's but she would come in and measure my girls for their dresses. She asked me to call a few days ahead of my appointment to remind her.
I just called (Friday, and the appointment is on Sunday) and Maggie says, "oh my grandson's birthday is on Sunday and it's so far away. I need to call you back and see if I can do it or not." Seriously?! My bridesmaids are mothers and had to arrange for sitters for that appointment. How do you disregard your customers!? Needless to say, I guess I should be thankful that it didn't work out and my girls aren't stuck having to deal with such flakes.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jackie M.San Francisco, CA861014Nov 10, 2010
You know it's a bad sign when the person getting their make-up done next to you at Nordstroms is bitching to the make-up artist about the same bridal shop you and your fellow bridesmaids have been bitching about.
Unfortunately Maggie and the House of Brides was not a good experience. The sizing is off. The cost is completely overpriced due to the poor quality of the fabric and seaming. $175 for a dress you are going to throw out plus $30 to get it hemmed elsehwere? Give me a break.
Also, she took my credit card info for the deposit and then charged the card for the remaining amount 5 months later without advance warning which caused an overdraft situation.
If you are planning on getting married, drive past House of Brides and go elsewhere for better quality and customer service.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sandra S.Hermosa Beach, CA1046May 3, 2012
DON'T go to this store! I wish sooooo badly that I had read reviews before going to this dress shop. Maggie the woman who was there at the store lied to us several times, first about price, then about their refund policy (we went it to take measurements and she charged us $170 each for a dress she didn't even put in an order for and REFUSED to return the money) She told us we could as long as the order wasn't sent it. 5 minutes later after consulting with the other bridesmaids (who weren't there for the fitting), we called to regretfully cancel because $170 was way too much for the dress. She then went back on her word and said she couldn't do anything about it. Then she said the owner wasn't available to speak, then later said she was the owner so there was nothing I could do about it.
Before we left the store we made sure to ask her specifically about the refund policy and we were all clear but when I mentioned that over the phone she responded by saying "well did you ask me before or after you signed the receipt? what did you expect me to say after you sign the receipt? say no? it is your fault for signing the receipt." REALLY? I am in shock at how badly i am being ripped off. She is not obviously sending in an order for a dress made specifically for me, so she is just going to keep my $170 because that is "policy". A policy we were never informed of and in fact lied to about. Ridiculous.
Wasn't shopping for a dress supposed to be fun?Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Sandy and her friend came to House of Brides & Tuxedo on May 3rd, 2012 and tried on the dress that the bride had asked for. She ordered one dress for herself and one for her friend. When placing the order she signed the contract with our store's policy, which states that there is no cancellation or refunds after the time of deposit and she signed the credit card receipt. When I gave her a copy for her order, she asked me, "Maggie, what if the bride changes her mind?" and I told her, "it's ok to change the style but only before I place the order." Im sorry if we misunderstood eachother but what I meant was that we could only change the style of the dress. If you read the contract you signed, it clearly states "Refunds are not allowed on any deposit or payment."
The bride came the next day and we came to an agreement which made everyone happy. - Jesse N.Long Beach, CA0156Jan 11, 2020
We walked into this wonderful shop with no appointment looking for a specific dress. Don't underestimate this quant little shop, Maggie was so warm and immediately found the bridesmaid dress we needed to try on, did our measurements, complimented us, and told us her deals. She made it so incredibly easy while making us laugh and smile. She said she'd immediately send in our order and we made an appointment to come in and try those ones on for any alterations thank you Maggie!!! You saved us!!!
