A nice cozy restaurant. Fish fry was excellent. Great French onion soup. Creme brulee for dessert was delicious as well.

Stopped in for lunch based on Yelp reviews and we found a very clean, simple restaurant with a pleasant hostess/server. The food was excellent. The French onion soup was very very good. Hubby had the Italian beef and I had a Pittsburgh chicken salad. Both were fresh, tasty and very filling. We will be back to try other menu items.

Came in on a Friday around 4:30pm and no problem getting seats...2 of us got the battered fish frys and both of us really liked the fish...It had a perfect crispy batter on it (not oily), and inside the haddock was fresh, fluffy, and tender...Perfect really....Dad got the Cesar salad and said that it was good (he gets them all the time)....We got the bacon wrapped onion petals for an appetizer and everyone liked them...I thought the French Onion soup was decent maybe kind of average....The one thing I was not a big fan of and it dropped my rating from 5 to 4 stars was the macaroni salad and the coleslaw...I'm not a fan of non-creamy coleslaw but I thought it had a funny taste like it had been sitting for a while...My sister didn't think so though....The macaroni salad was dry and kind for clumped together like it had been sitting and didn't have much for taste...I got the seasoned fries and they were average.

Great place. Simple, casual, great service and really good food. As I heard earlier, a hidden gem.

So mixed reviews on this place....First the positive; Food is really good. You can tell that there is a lot of care placed in the presentation and flavor profile of the dishes. French Onion soup was outstanding. Perfectly broiled and rich in stock. Bavarian pretzel appetizer was large, well baked with a delightful cheese sauce that was definitely house made (which is a good thing). Spicy and smooth. Definitely a must get. The Cuban sandwich I got was presented nicely, However the meat was old and you could taste it. Severely diminishing what the sandwich could have been. With fresh meats I'm sure it would have been fantastic. The Fajita wrap was amazing. Good combination of flavor and heat, well constructed and served with a generous portion of fries, it is a win for a great lunch or dinner option. Now to the negatives; The service was horrendous. We walked in slightly after opening. The first person to greet us was a young woman named Hailey. Completely unfriendly right off the bat. No smile, no eye contact...in fact I think she may have even rolled her eyes when we asked for a table. I'm talking this person oozed disdain. Took us to our table and threw the menus down and walked away without saying a word. I assumed at this point this was the hostess so didn't really make a big deal about it. But no, she was our "server". I do this in quotations because throughout our service, another woman whose name was MacKenzie touched our table more than she did. Mackenzie was fantastic. Hailey did bring over our drinks...complete with side eye and haughtiness. I literally felt like I had wronged this girl in another life by the way she was treating us. This has to be the owners daughter or something because there is no way this person can treat customers like this on a daily basis and get away with it. Simply unbelievable in the hospitality business. But despite all that, I would still recommend this place. The food being worth the treatment is still up for debate.

I drive past here all the time and decided randomly to stop in for lunch one day while running errands. I was greeted by the owner who was very friendly. It was pretty slow inside, but I was there around 230. My waitress was very nice and recommended the burger and it didn't disappoint!

I had a very good experience here. The food was very good. High quality food cooked properly. The host was polite and quick. The waitress was also polite. The inside was very very clean which I appreciate. Good music and good environment. I would recommend and I will be going back for sure.

A true gem! If you can visit, you should. We've gone 5 or 6 times now and we haven't hit a snag. This is a relatively small full-service restaurant. With constant next level service and food that always satisfies.
The menu is pleasingly limited. Their not trying the ancient trick of creating and menu that is pages long listing the same basic ingredient 4 or more ways. Instead you'll see that there's a nice spectrum of dishes that would seem to have something for most palates.
We've had the Tacos a couple of times which are generous and delectable. All are good but the short ribs are our favorite. We've had the Burger, Italian beef sandwich, Firecracker shrimp, Stuffed banana peppers and more without a hitch. If we had to recommend something specific it would be the Bavarian soft pretzel and the Friday Tempura beer battered fish.
There's good Friday Fish everywhere. We're relatively new to this area so we're no experts BUT... If you appreciate a tasty, stick to the fish, crispy not greasy version of this great local tradition you'll be pleasantly surprised.
The pretzel is well, kinda ridiculous. (See pic) It's huge and tasty and so hot (temp) when it hits the table it always a treat. The dipping sauces are not the usual basic cheese and mustard sauces but a few steps above that. It's not only good but it's fun to eat.
Add the wonderful service (always), the reasonable pricing to value and how clean and well run this place is and you're gonna be happy, very happy.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Contim J.Buffalo, NY16Nov 3, 2023
My sister in law took my husband and I out for a celebratory birthday lunch. None of us had been there since it was the Woodlawn Hotel. She had looked at the menu and was impressed.
Her impression was correct. From the moment you walk in you feel welcome and comfortable. We had our choice of booth, tables (both high and low) We picked a booth which was spacious and accommodating. We started out with the tempura green beans with a spicy aioli sauce on the side. They were delicious. They were hot and crispy. The green beans in side were cooked perfectly. The aioli sauce on the side was spicy. I ordered the Cuban sandwich. It was perfect. It had a generous portion of pork, ham, swiss and pickles. I had it with Italian Wedding soup as my side. The soup was home made. It was chock full of chicken meatballs. My Sister in law had a hamburger. They cooked it perfectly to her instructions. She loved the crinkle cut French fries which were hot out of the fryer. My husband had a Pittsburg Salad. A Pittsburg anything means it comes with French Fries within the dish. He ordered it to include steak. It wasn't something I would ever order but man oh man he loved it. The French Fries retained their crispiness and the steak was done to perfection. He ate every little bit of it, not even offering to share. While we were full, it was my birthday so we had dessert. We had the Lemon Cream Italian Cake. I was dubious because lemon anything can be a bit of a crap shoot. I was wrong it was lightly lemony with a slightly sweet cream filling in a lighter than light cake. It was fabulous. We are definitely coming back. I want to try everything, especially the Fish Fry. Eventually maybe I will try that Pittsburg salad.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 31, 2021
Had to stop at the Lake Shore Cafe after all the great reviews. Very personable and informative server Ashley. Nice to know 2 brothers are co- owners and this is a family run cafe. Loved the contemporary, trendy, "wood" vinyl flooring and grey colored walls.
The food?! Yes it was very good. I enjoyed the rock fish tacos. Crispy, breaded, fish on top of cabbage slaw snd topped with some cream sauce. Two tacos. Not enough quantity-wise to satisfy a hungry tummy. So I got tempted to try an appetizer.... That French onion soup was calling my name! An excuse to eat a little more lol. Actually, that French onion soup was delish. Cheesy and savory! Saw it in the "specials" board and glad I did!
Oh check their FB page because their specials change per Ashley.
My friend ordered the Italian beef sandwich. He said it was tasty. Size-wise it wouldn't have been enough if it wasn't for the seasoned crinkle fries on the side.
We had a few drinks - $5 per beer and $6.50 glass of wine, added up to $16 approximately. The total bill with drinks was $54.00 before tip. I would say prices are a bit higher these days - maybe COVID related. But still no complaints. We did enjoy dinner tonight at this cafe.Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 11Oh no 0
