Northwest Tile and Stone Care is the only Kitsap County based Tile and Stone restoration business owned by a tile installer/stone fabricator. Mike Holm started Northwest Tile and Stone Care because of the huge need for expert marble honing and polishing * cleaning, sealing, and most importantly expert repair of grout and caulking and shower restoration. Our sales philosophy is to educate our customers on our various services, what work is necessary for prevention of damage (like the removal of cracked, moldy, caulky) and what work is purely cosmetic in nature (like polishing marble, granite, or glass shower doors). Speaking of glass shower doors, this is a service that we started offering around 8 years ago after everyone kept saying NO ONE, not even their professional home cleaners, could do. We have since nearly perfected the process of removing hard water mineral deposits and sealing glass so that it is 75-95% easier to keep clean. We are also experts at grout ColorSealing which enables us to change the color of grout without re-grouting.

I hired Mike to apply MORE Anti-Etch to my new Super White Dolomite kitchen countertops. Mike was fantastic to work with - friendly, responsive and honest.
He did a beautiful job with applying the product with a honed finish.
Overall, Mike was a breath of fresh air amidst a long kitchen renovation project. Super happy with the end result and appreciate of him coming down to Portland, OR to do the project!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shawna P.Woodinville, WA05Oct 6, 2023
Our marble tile shower floor and niche got sprayed with vinegar and it left spots that we could not remove. I tried contacting around 10 different companies and most said the spots could not be removed and the tiles would have to be replaced. However this company said they could repair it and they did! No more spots. Very happy I found Northwest Tile and Stone Care.

Being first time home owners there was so much we didn't know about keeping a home in good shape. Lucky for us, Northwest is nearby! They were in and out in only a few hours but the change in the bathroom was remarkable...mold, water marks, yellowing grout, all gone! They were very professional and punctual. Highly recommend.

Response to Mike's response, starting from the bottom up: If you have such an "awesome" attitude, how come fully half of your Yelp reviews are from customers giving you low ratings for customer service (this includes the one "not recommended" - because the reviewer isn't very active on Yelp - review)?
I called you on a Saturday, using the number associated with your business, because you advertise Saturday hours. I called to ask you if there was anything I could do to mitigate the bleeding of the grout before you were coming out again to finish, as you said you would do. I wanted to know if I had to act quickly, since you had just done the work the day before. After listening to your diatribe for 15 minutes (something your other negative reviews also note you do), as well as your telling me you weren't going to fix it for free (something I never suggested), you finally answered the question. Now I see that you apparently knew by then as well as the 2 subsequent times you promised me you would be back out that you were never going to return.
We did nothing to the bathroom floor and told you when you did the estimate that we had no idea what our contractor had done. We did not know the issue with that floor was haze. That's your job to know and in your response, you say you only realized it when you arrived after your tech had tried and failed to remove it. When you mentioned you needed Blaze, we told you we had it - we had used it to remove haze from glass tile elsewhere in the house. If you had figured out and told us from the beginning that the floor had haze, we would have produced the Blaze from the get go. If you didn't know that was the issue, how can you expect us to? And no, you did not remove all of it - there is still haze around the tub and toilet. But, now that we know that's what it is, we'll remove it ourselves.
I would have had no problem with your using epoxy bond on the shower floor. The problem I had was that your tech could not tell us what color it would dry at. He showed it to us in powder form and only said it would look lighter. Why wouldn't you have brought a sample of the finished product so we could be sure it would be a close enough match to the grout already in there? When I suggested this on that Saturday phone call, you agreed to do that. But, of course, you had no intention of returning.
As for all the chips in the countertop: I've since had someone else come to repair them. He explained to me that all the tiny ones were just minor, would not grow, and were part of the manufacturing process. That was a very satisfactory answer, so there were only 3 chips for him to do. It's too bad you either didn't know that, or didn't bother to explain it to me.
I am not a perfectionist, but as I'm sure most homeowners feel, I want the people who do work in my home to be. In your response you admit that you are content to merely do work that would "make most people happy." Thank you. I'm now relieved you never came back.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Doreen,
There's absolutely a lot of truth in your review and assessment of how this project went and I appreciate the feedback. There's definitely a lot that could have gone differently and should have.
I do have a few things that I would like to share from my side that I feel you may be miss remembering and or maybe they were things that I spoke with your husband about.
I did share with you my concern about the joint where the white tile and white grout on the wall was going to be meeting the black grout and black tile on the floor and let you know that at some point those colors have to meet. I let you know that this was actually in fact one of the toughest things for a grout finisher to deal with.
I bid the job for us to use our product "Epoxy Bond" at that joint which all of our techs have been trained to use. It is not only FAR superior to the urethane grout in durability (100% EPOXY), but is also significantly easier to make look good and does not bleed.
Alex, the tech who you requested he use, taped off both sides of the joint to help make the cleanup easier. For the product that you insisted he used, he did a great job. Honestly I believe that there aren't very many if any tile installers in Kitsap County who could have made that joint look as good as he did, and you are welcome to share pictures of his work.
The "Epoxy Bond" would have looked even better (and would have been done in half of the time)
John (our tech who stripped/cleaned the floor 3-4 times before I arrived) knew what he was doing as far as removing the topical coating. (the 1st coat that was on top of the tile that I honestly think the previous contractor or you put on top of the tile to hide the urethane grout haze). This is all that I thought was going to need to be removed.
When I arrived and saw that it was actually grout haze I said "we need some Blaze" (urethane grout haze remover) and you guys actually had an almost full bottle.
I did a test spot, showed your husband that it worked, and then removed ALL of the haze tile by tile. My frustration "losing money on this" had more to do with the fact that you neglected to let my tech's know that you had the product that would remove the haze. We charged you $119.00 for the floor and had more than 6 hours into it, it was unprofessional for me to say that, but your husband actually said he would compensate for it but I didn't even add it to the bill...we just ate it. I chalked the floor up as a learning lesson.
Your Countertops: you said you had "a few chips" yet at the end of finishing the haze removal when I went into your kitchen you had more than 30 pieces of blue tape marking every possible pit, including those smaller than the tip of a pen. This was the point (way too late) that I realized that you are an absolute perfectionist and there wasn't going to be any way to please you, especially with these chip repairs where I know for a fact that I can get them WAY BETTER but not 100%. I honestly had the fillachip product in clear but not in black. The clear would have made most people happy but I knew it would not have been good enough.
Countertop Product: I was unaware that I sold you a partial bottle. Looked pretty full to me. I will gladly drop you off a new one in exchange for whatever is left of the one you have.
Glass Sealer: I recommend that you only use some cleaner and a fresh/clean microfiber towel. Any spots will wipe right off.
Phone Call: I'd like to note that this phone call was early on a Saturday morning and you came out on attack. I don't apologize for my reaction. I had explained our limitations on the white to black joint intersection before the project and this was your reason for the call. I merely re explained exactly what I had already warned you about and to this moment I still believe a quality repair job was done despite using an inadequate product.
Attitude: I have an awesome attitude. I love our clients and am addicted to the work and service that I get to provide for 99% of them. What I absolutely cannot stand is when people don't understand limitations despite how well I attempt to explain them. I even have an after photo on our wrapped van that shows these limitations and I point them out often. Tile and grout is not a perfect product, it never has been and it never will be. I take great pride in my work and when I get attacked I don't react well (For that I do apologize....but that is the biggest reason I have not returned. I do not know how to deal with people who attack my work after I've given it 100% effort)Jul 5, 2017Previous reviewUnfortunately, we had a similar experience with Clean Grout's customer service that others have had. Mike (the owner) did an estimate, so knew (you'd think) what had to be done. The cleaning part - 2 showers - was excellent. The repairs, not so much. Our contractor (Dave Clark, Bainbridge Builders who we fired - see my pics and soon to be posted review) had created a tile/stone disaster in several areas which Mike said he could fix.
Dave had left significant haze on the bathroom floor tiles. Mike's guy tried taking it off, but didn't really seem to know what he was doing. Finally, Mike came and took it over, but it was apparently more of a job than he thought when he did the estimate as he exclaimed to us, "I'm going to lose money on this!" As a customer, I don't really need to hear that. It's incredibly unprofessional. Perhaps as a result of his losing money, he ended up not even doing the entire floor.
Dave hadn't grouted properly where the shower wall met the floor. Mike's guy told us he could use a certain grout - showing it to us in its unmixed form and saying the color would end up being a little lighter - or he could use the leftover grout we had from Dave, which is a tricky grout Mike's guy admitted he'd never used before. Obviously, since the grout needed to match the rest of the shower, we chose to use the old grout. The job came out pretty awful. Since Mike knew ahead of time this was part of the job, why didn't he 1) bring a finished sample of the dried grout he wanted to use so we could see if the color matched or 2) know, since he's the self-proclaimed grout expert (and as I subsequently found out from doing research to fix what Mike's guy did) that the grout has an exact matching sealant that is recommended for use on 90 degree angles and won't bleed onto the floor like Mike's guy's grout job did.
Mike knew from seeing them and including them in his estimate, that I also wanted a few chips Dave had made in our quartz countertop repaired. Yet, when he tried to repair them he said he didn't bring the right tool, or a colorant he would need. He said he had a job near us coming up in 2-3 weeks, so he'd be back and finish then. Fine. However....
When I called him the day after they'd done the "repairs" to ask if there was anything I could do in the meantime about the poor job on the shower regrouting, the VERY FIRST THING out of Mike's mouth was, "I'm not fixing that for free." Well Mike, that's not what I asked, but more importantly, that should not be the first response to an unhappy customer. He then went on a full five minute diatribe about how he warned us there would be bleeding if he used our grout (he had not), and other way more information than I ever wanted to know about grouting. I kept trying to get a word in edgewise, to tell him I just wanted it fixed and I would pay him to do it, but he literally would not listen until his diatribe was over. Finally, he again assured me he'd be back in 2-3 weeks to do it all.
Unfortunately, I had paid in full. He had also charged me for cleaning our kitchen stainless sinks, but hadn't gotten around to that. I assumed they'd do it when they came to fix the countertop. When 3 weeks went by and I hadn't heard from him, I emailed. He said he hadn't been able to get to that other job yet, but had to by the end of the month (by then, it was May) as that customer was putting his home on the market. Fine. I could wait. But, subsequent contact by me went unanswered and it's now July. I had also contacted him because his guy filled in some tiles Dave chipped in the shower (as per Mike's repair estimate), but had skipped quite a few. I wanted to know what Mike's guy used, so I could repair the rest. No response on that either.
One glass shower door had been factory treated to resist water spots. I thought it looked fine when Mike came to do the estimate, but he convinced me he could make it look even better and his treatment would last a long time. I let him do it and now regret it. I'm having to retreat it myself with a spray I'd previously only had to use every few months, but now weekly. I think whatever he did must have removed the factory treatment. I would like to have asked him about that, if he ever responded to me or came back, as promised.
When he was here, he also talked up a product to spray the countertops to make them shiny, and sold me a bottle after he demonstrated for me on mine. I do like the product, but he charged full price for a bottle I later discovered was partly used - more so than on just my countertop. He should have a separate demo bottle so customers don't feel cheated.
In summary: If you want great cleaning + bad attitude - Mike's your guy. But decent repair + good customer service? No. - Sandra B.North End, Tacoma, WA12138232May 3, 2018
We hired Mike to service every tile and marble surface in our house, and he did an amazing job.
Our walk-in shower was badly in need of tile repair on many surfaces, and he repaired it to better-than-new condition. In addition, he removed nearly 20 years of haze from the shower walls. They look better than ever.
He removed a messy grout mistake from around our soaking tub and regrouted everywhere. It looks clean and neat, and best, is now fully protected.
He carefully cleaned and sealed our Roman tile entry, hallway, and powder room, taking special care with the travertine transitions. He finished off by cleaning our large kitchen, laundry, and bathroom tile floors. We could not be more pleased - especially as the cost was far, far below our other quotes.
We would hire him again in an instant.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joe E.Bainbridge Island, WA04Aug 17, 2021
We engaged Northwest Tile and Stone Care to clean/restore the shower in our master bath. They did a fantastic job at a reasonable price in one day! The glass is clean and the shower looks like it's brand new. Mike and team were competent, professional and gave great customer service. Well done!

This is the place to go for your bath/shower needs. Had a leak in our shower door I tried to fix with no luck. Northwest Tile and Stone Care fixed it up and also cleaned some grout that was badly in need. Looked like a brand new shower at the end of it!

Very good work done, we had our new granite sealed. Only reason this isnt 5 stars is because I really had to fight (practically beg) for an appointment. Email after email, call after call, I didnt get an appointment for weeks. Appointment rolls around, guy is nice and on time. Then it's another couple weeks before I get the invoice. I realize the owner is handling everything, but as far as customer service goes.. theres definitely room for improvement.

I HIGHLY recommend Mike at Clean Grout Northwest. He recaulked my kitchen counter with epoxy that matched my Corian countertops. He's very professional and has the best customer service.

I highly recommend Mike (now doing business as Northwest Tile and Stone Care). I hired him to seal the granite in my new home after I stained it so that I could avoid future stains. He could have removed the stain for me and charged me for it, but instead, on his own time and at no cost to me, he taught me how to do it myself. He was giving with his time and advice after normal business hours even though he had a newborn baby at home. He did a great job sealing the granite and again gave me some excellent advice on maintaining it. I think he's great and I'd use him again in a heartbeat.
