I am totally unhappy with my recent visit:
1. My primary care physician's office informed me that they had sent a referral to Palm Beach Eye Center and thst they would contact me with appointment information. I waited a week and heard nothing from them I then got a copy of the referral and called your office for an appointment.
A. I was told that a referral wasn't necessary.
B. When questioned why I needed an appointment, I quoted directly from the referral the TOS codes and descriptions.
1.H25.819 (0) Combined firms of age-related cataract, unspecified eye;
2. H02.839 (0) Dermatochalasis of unspecified eye, unspecified eyelid
C. When I finally saw Dr. Wallshein he told me:
1. That I needed cataract surgery on both eyes. He would operate on one eye at a time. He also stated that he only performed laser surgery at a cost of $1500. per eye;0
2. He did not perform the eyelid procedure (which was one of the reasons for which I was sent there);
3. Since I couldn't afford his astronomical fee, he would refer me to another ophthalmologist, Dr. Mas-Ramitez at that same facility. I HAVE MORE COMPLAINTS!!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kyle C.FL, FL445113Dec 12, 2023
Not only is Dr. Jay Wallshein an arrogant twit who will keep you waiting for over two hours after your appointed time, he will tell you that he doesn't make any money on Medicare patients. He will then charge you an extra $75 for a refraction (your prescription). Yesterday, I input my prescription into Zenni to order new eyeglasses by the end of the year and it triggered an error response. Not only had the good (ha ha) doctor written a prescription for a far-sighted woman, (+ in front of the number), the numbers were exactly opposite of what my previous (fabulous) eye doctor in California had prescribed!
I left a message for Dr. Wallshein and told him that I expected to hear back from him or I would write bad reviews. I got a call from someone in his office who barely spoke English. Apparently, his time is too valuable to speak to his patients.
On my second appointment at this office, it looked like they were ready to make me play the same waiting game and make me pay for the privilege. The staff is rude and arrogant. I asked them why I had an appointment to begin with. They told me to speak to the tiny little man who takes payments. He was extremely rude. I told the staff that they were all rude. Little man told me to leave. I told them I would never be back.
Skip this joker. I highly recommend Florida Vision with offices in Port St. Lucie, Stuart, West Palm Beach, etc. They are professional, friendly, and did a great job on my cataracts years ago and following a retina problem that I had back then. And they treat you well even if you are on Medicare/Medicaid.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - James R.New York, NY97222256Jun 5, 2023

They are playing games with my medications. Ordering meds I do not use like avastin. Then I get billed for it. Dr Raduns assistant Braxton. I owe 240$ because they are ordering a drug I don't need. I have have 2 in their refrigerator already waiting for me named eyelea. Awful and no one will answer and resolve this. Banging my head against the wall

Dr. wallshein sold this business a few years ago as it closed another office. It must be eating him to see the ship sinking. The best doctor was Dr. Tollentino. The remaing 2 had no idea how to treat my damaged eye. Plus doing eye exams for glasses to add $$ to the bill. I now use a retina specialist service and another practice.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 8, 2023Previous reviewbest retina doctor was dr Tolentino,as he no longer in the area. at first he was excellent then came the scheduling with to many patients 1.5 hr wait for a 2 sec exam. I owe him for saving my eye as he was the only on who recommended Polensa a non steroid drug that kept my pressure down. The rest of the drs had no idea how to treat my problem. . I cannot criticize dr wallshein as I never used him. This drug USA is 325.$ Canada it's $40. They probably don't use it because of cost. And will not tell you it is available in Canada as USA patient they can bleed you dry.
Sep 6, 2021Previous reviewThis eye center is all about $$ as a corporate take over has cut the staff to save $$. When a doctor who I respected tell you when you see him that why are you here ,it's time to move on. I went in for the pre exam and my vision at the time was 20/25. He did not even look at my eye just said that and left see you in 3 months. They are under time constraints when busy ,you are lucky to get 2 minutes with the doctor. Terrible medicine .also they push a eye exam for $75.00 even when your insurance covers that at no cost at another facility. Sad but true.
May 3, 2020Previous reviewThe virus caused them to shut down even refusing emergencies. After being a patient for years they totally neglected &abandoned me .i had a infection in my eye that was needing immediate care also my eyesight was going blind for another reason. So I called and called to no avail. They are so called professional M.Ds they even had a tech tell me to go to Miami with one eye working to Bascom Balpmer @ hr drive on 95. Lucky my primary was able to get another local eye doctor to see me. Professional no more like scared chickens without a head.

Horrifying! First they scheduled a procedure to remove a tumor on my eyelid, then when I arrived they left me sitting in the waiting room for 1.5 hours as they began to close up. Then they came to get me to say it was too late in the day to do the procedure and I had to come back.
I rescheduled, and they told me I had to be there a half hour early. I did so, and then they left me waiting for 2 hours. Then they lost the biopsy so I never got the results. Rather than taking responsibility and apologizing, they were trying to blame the lab.
When I told them I was not surprised they lost the biopsy sample because my entire experience with them has been that they were completely incompetent, they said that the people who schedule appointments are supposed to tell everyone to expect no less than a two-hour wait every time they come. Are you kidding me?
Spare yourself the total and complete incompetence, rudeness and lack of caring and go elsewhere. This place is a joke.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shirley N.West Palm Beach, FL06Aug 19, 2021
If there was a zero star it would be my choice.
A bad, useless experience. In four visits and money spent on treatments and medications, he said he mixed there in the office and he said I needed, I still have the problem. I can't see out of the $600 I spent on glasses either even after paying twice for an eye exam. I can see better without them per the new doctor I saw yesterday for the same eye problem. Terrible experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Teddy K.Delray Beach, FL03May 25, 2021
If you have all the time in the world and you don't mind waiting in the waiting room at least 40 minutes after your scheduled time, this practice is for you.
I have been seeing a doctor in this practice for 4-1/2 years and this seems to be their procedure. Schedule a patient and then make him wait before one of the technicians finally begin the examination.
Im looking for a new doctor that has more respect for their patients' time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Norman K.West Palm Beach, FL01Mar 23, 2021
I am a continuing patient of this office, having previously paid several thousand dollars out of pocket for eye surgery.
Nevertheless, when I arrived at the Lake Worth office on 03/22/21for a scheduled appointment I was advised for the first time by 2 clerks that I must pay $120 before i could see Dr. Wallshein for a non-refraction consultation, because they were uncertain whether or not I had met my Medicare/Supplement deductible.
No such advance payment charge had been advised by staff at the time that I had made the appointment.
They refused my suggestion that the office just bill me should my insurance coverages decline to pay, so I left.
Unless you enjoy being treated like a head of cattle or a customer at a fast food restaurant by your doctor's office staff, avoid this unprofessional business practice.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alison L.Delray Beach, FL02Sep 14, 2020
I have been a patient of Dr. Wallshein for years. I called to make an appointment to be told they now only carry two insurances. I asked why we weren't informed. No answer. I am very disappointed that the office did not take the time to notify their clients. In my opinion, they don't care about their clients just the business/money they earn. Go else where.
