My wife and i had planned on heading to Costco but due to the virus was lined up way around the block so we decided to check out Prairie Farms and we are pleased we did.
We appreciate the smaller, local style atmosphere which was very friendly as the management seemed happy to answer any questions we had regarding their popular "alitas de pollo" :-)
Local, range fed and about as organic as you can get at a reasonable price. We purchased brown eggs, fresh ripe tomatoes, and of course their chicken wings which we are eager to try out.
You gotta check this place out.

This seems to be the largest produce stand at the Kingsland Market. They specialize in Alberta, BC and International produce and feature organic and pesticide free produce. I have to admit at first I was hesitant to check out what they had to offer because the entrance to their area had a big display of cases of mangoes. I know not everything at the market is 100% local or seasonal but I also know cases and case of mangoes are a long way from home. I still decided to go in deeper and see what they had to offer.
Which, as it turns out, is a lot. Sure they have some definite import that I don't think are necessary but they also have a ton of very fresh BC and Alberta produce. And despite being organic which often costs a pretty penny more, I managed to fill an bag with several different items for $15. The cashier was very helpful too. When at the last minute I wanted to add some fresh basil to my purchases, she quickly got it for me, making sure she gave me the best looking bunch in the basket. She threw an extra one in when she couldn't decide which the best bunch was - very thoughtful.
There also appeared to be a staff member dedicated to going around and keeping the produce looking its best which doesn't happen enough anymore, even in commercial supermarkets. The result? Fresh, flavorful produce that really made a great meal for my family.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
