Do u need reservations and any dress code?

      A:

Casual. I recommend making a reservation, but it depends on the time; early evening is generally not that busy.

    • Q:

How do you prepare the omu rice?? Do you "cut" the omu after placing it on the rice? So it's just an omelet?

      A:

Aloha Desiree. Our chefs do not cut the omu.

Sakura Terrace in Honolulu is my favorite Japanese restaurant to go to for consistency, quality, and service.

I recommend their seared abalone and ribeye. Also, if you haven't tried omurice, they have it! It's a chicken fried rice mixed with a strong tomato sauce (ketchup amd other seasonings), topped with a fluffy egg omelet that's runny in the center, and cut open. This reminds me of my childhood dish. My parents used to make it, and it's funny how Filipinos just put together a quick breakfast. Haha. Everything is good on their menu.

The interior of the restaurant has a vibrant, clean, and organized seating arrangement. Indoor, outdoor, and private rooms are available for customers to choose for their dining experience.

Reservation is a must, and it's usually the day of or the following day a customer can get into this restaurant.

      Parking:
Street parking (free after 5pm) and limited restaurant parking.

Came here with family + 2 old friends for lunch. They have a lunch-specific menu, great choices and a smart idea since it focuses on enough choices for variety yet keeps the cost lower than dinner.

Our side salad came first, with fresh vegetables and a great, miso ginger tasting dressing. I got the omurice, which had a good ketchup-rice base and fluffy, slightly runny scrambled egg over it (Japanese-style, never overcooked or hard scrambled). The entire thing was coated in a delicious dark gravy. It was served with a side of excellent miso soup and a few pickled vegetables. I really love the Japanese way of making the omelette rice, with the tangy ketchup rice, the runny eggs, and the gravy over everything.

I ended with a matcha ice cream, though with my love for everything yuzu I regretted not getting the yuzu butter mochi!

I can't believe it has taken me so long, so many years, to eat here. What a delightful, delicious dining experience. The food is delicate as well as aesthetic, and the taste is terrific. The furniture is a bit worn, and the seating area is limited... which prompted me to hesitate in sharing this my thoughts, thereby possibly contributing to competition for a table in the future - which I plan on. I see this becoming a regular at least monthly go-to.

Two of us shared the agedashi tofu with eggplant, chicken nam ban, and a couple rolls of- shrimp tempura roll and a tuna avo roll. The edamame was a bit limp and not worth mentioning (except as a sole negative remark).

I suppose one other less than positive (glowing) comment would be, one can surmise, based on the holdover landscaping, dry pond, etc. that this establishment also had to weather the challenges and hardships of the Pandemic years - I'm simply grateful it survived!

Look forward to trying additional items on their menu, and from what others have posted of it looks like the menu might change.

I highly recommend this place - but please don't dine there when I want to!

My boyfriend and I were recommended by our friend who is a local to try this place! I'd recommend making a reservation. We didn't, but we went right when they opened and luckily we got a spot. We had gone to japan recently and were craving some Japanese foods. Their bentos are definitely a great value. We tried the steak and sushi bento, both were supper yummy. Had some very authentic side dishes as well. Definitely reminded us of our trip to Japan. I'd definitely recommend if you're craving Japanese food!

      Yummy bento!

My husband and I went to this place for a date night. We sat outside in a private area with string lights. I thought it was romantic.

Service was great and food was excellent. It's an authentic Japanese restaurant where the servers actually speak Japanese and it reminds you of some restaurants in Japan. They pour the draft beer in small beer glasses with just the right amount of foam.

As we were eating and chatting, there was a loud commotion. We realized two homeless people were fighting across the street. The man was being violent towards the woman so I ended up calling the cops. My advice is...sit inside, not outside.

Dined at Sakura Terrace for the first time since before covid and I was very pleased with the experience. It's like a little oasis located right off a busy King Street, walk in and feel a zen like calm settle in over your mind as you get ready for a great experience.

The Great: Freshest of seafood, solid specials, 10 piece Omakase Nigiri set, menu variety, Japanese style cheesecake for dessert.

The Good: Mixed vegetable tempura had a nice variety and nicely balanced the richness of the sashimi/nigiri. Decent selection of Sake with a flight option.

The Okay: Made a reservation on Yelp but for some reason the restaurant never received it. Fortunately there was room at the sushi counter for us but it was odd as I even received a text message after making the reservation. Not 100% on the restaurant but if we'd been turned away that would have been disappointing.

Overall: Loved our visit (we went twice) and will be back many times in the future. Highly recommended if you are in town and can stop by.

This place was very yummy! The food was flavored and cooked to perfection. The service was attentive and fast. We sat in the corner, which used to be outside but they converted it to be indoors. I highly suggest this place and wasn't disappointed.

Came here on a lunch date. It's a cute spot to enjoy some Japanese food.

PARKING: Street metered parking .. or in the back. They got their own private parking lot with ample space. If you decide to park on the street, just make sure you're not parking during tow zone times....

LOCATION: They are on the mauka side of King Street, after Zippy's. It has its own little building.

SERVICE: Our server was amazing and kept checking on us even though we sat outside. He didn't forget about us.

FOOD: I thought the food was good. Not the best.... I can get picky with my sushi but it wasn't bad.

Overall, this is a cute restaurant. I'd come back for lunch again to try their other dishes.
