More than two months after the move, Chris, the customer service manager that was less than willing to listen to my concerns after the move, called me to see if he could work with me to make things better!
I asked for a full refund, and he refused. I asked for half of my money back, and he agreed, but he wanted me to sign a document first and remove my review. I refused to sign anything or take down my review in hopes that it would help save someone from going through the headaches I went through. Best regards!Aug 30, 2023Previous reviewI have moved a few times across state lines and have used moving companies each time. I have always had small issues here and there, but never did I feel like the companies I used were ripping me off...well with SEKA I definitely felt cheated and misinformed.
The move itself went OK, but the sales person I spoke with initially definitely gave me a very low estimate. He knew I was shopping around with other moving companies, and my guess is he low-balled the qoute to get my business-and unfortunately he did! All the other companies I talked with gave me similar prices, but Alex's qoute from SEKA was so much lower than all the other companies, that should have been a red flag for me.
The sales person never asked for pictures of my apartment, nor did he say facetime could be an option. He estimated that I would need 7 medium boxes to pack up my one-bedroom apartment. The movers ended up using a total of 22 boxes! How uniformed can you be as a salesperson to give such a terrible estimate. I ended up having to pay a very high price for the 15 extra boxes and packing service that Alex underestimated.
I tried to talk to a manager later, Chris, who basically said that during one of the conversation I was told that the price of any boxes and services needed outside of the qoute COULD be at a higher rate. And that he would be more than happy to pull a recording of this. When I asked him why don't the sales persons offer the option of facetime to costumers, his response was that customers would have to ask for that option, and that it's never offered up by SEKA moving sales reps.

It saddens me to even write this review (its also long so be prepared or just skip it). In 2021 we moved from NYC to CT. The 4 guys from Uzbekistan were fantastic. They packed to carefully all our precious art, clothing, kitchen etc. And they were delightful.
The second hiring of Seka was 1000% the opposite. First, the quote process, and yes I priced them vs Colonial, they were equal. The quote was for a complete wrap and pack, a 100% move, and we facetimed thru the house so they could see everything, including our vast collection of art, pictures, and other valued posessions. This was a full house move, quote 8500.
The week prior I added 3 tall wood bookcases, and 18 boxes of books, from my spouses office. We added 1300 to the cost, no problem.
The move was planned for a 2 day move, like the NYC-CT move, but this was from CT to Texas.
What happened next... 4 guys show up, they are given clear instructions on how to pack and wrap the art, pictures and valuable items. And how to plastic wrap and then blanket the furniture (much was going into storage and Seka charges $20/blanket if not returned- learned this on the first move)
Instead of taking time to pack everything on Day 1 and then load on Day 2, they forced the entire job in one day (or tried to). From a stress standpoint it was overwhelming, and as the day went on their work fell off considerably.
The end result, total disaster, the art, which again my wife begged them to carefully wrap, was thrown in haphazardly , not wrapped, mixed frame materials i.e. wood vs metal, and no packing AT ALL. the clothing same, expensive handbags packed with office supplies and a printer (in fact on top of a 2000 handbag was the printer and Gucci booties.
Damage was everywhere, from the bookcases, to the white couch that was not fully wrapped.
Lest I forget, lost items, much of my garage collection of tools, camping gear, etc was never delivered. This because they actually couldnt finish this move in one day, left at midnight, called me in the AM to tell me another 1500 in costs to finish the job because it was more than THEY estimated (recall the factime walk thru, held no weight) so now I am held "hostage" to their demand.
Gets better, 3 weeks to deliver the goods. Gets better, and other $2000 to deliver because they need shuttle trucks to unload (they told me the load/unload was fine at the High rise i moved into and the storage unit).
The unloading wasn't terrible, although no one took any inventory and items I was worried were not unloaded dismissed as unloaded. They were not after a detailed review of the storage unit items.
The interesting part as I go to file the claim, they never did the inventory numbering, so they have nothing and i have nothing because unlike all the many moves I have done before (MANY MOVES- LIKE 10 full house moves) they didnt take the time to go over the inventory, sticker the boxes and items.
Now the fun begins, as I go to file the claim. It will be massive, from cloth headboards that were clearly dragged on dirty floors unwrapped, to a pure white couch (retail 14K) that was not fully wrapped, damaged furniture, destroyed 55" flat screen high def TV, etc etc..
The 60Cent/pound limit will not fly, since they failed to honor their proposal and contract. Not wrapping furniture fully (I have pictures of all of this) and the way expensive and valuable art was handled is the opposite of the contract terms. So if small claims is how this ends up, it is on Seka.
Final cost of the move $15K, plus 800 in tips to the guys. Final cost to me in damages TBD.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

The 2 guys were excellent with the complicated move.
Showed up on time, started working to resolve the challenges between moving into another apartment in the same building and then to a truck for transport.
Took furniture / bed apart and put back together better than before.
Clean and tidy and very nice and helpful.
Great team!
I would use them again and I would suggest anyone else utilize the service as well.

Super disappointed in this whole experience.
Booking was nice and easy but when moving day came, they were over two hours late and when I told them I had to be out of the apartment by a certain time, the two movers still took their sweet time and took multiple smoke breaks.
Also had to pay out of pocket to the mover because he said I didn't state there were stairs in over the phone but I did. He explained that if I pay him directly without letting the company know, it would be cheaper. Not sure what else to do and because I needed my furniture safe inside, I handed the money over. Whole thing felt a bit scammy and like I was taken advantage of.
Movers barely spoke English so I felt as though it was extremely hard to explain what I had said during booking on the phone to then tell movers.
Not only was this whole experience very unprofessional, one of the movers I guess found my phone number from the paperwork and has been texting me from an email repeatedly asking me out for a drink!

I set my move up with Mike, and he was very helpful and informative. I also got a call the day before the move to confirm the moving inventory and other details. We were given a 9am-11am window for the start of our move, and on moving day the crew arrived around 9:30, ready to go to work. They were friendly and kind, and they worked well together and with us. They wrapped all our furniture well and handled it with care. They disassembled our (heavy) Casper electric adjustable bed, wrapped it, and then reassembled it in the new place and took extra time to position it just where we wanted it on top of the bedroom rug. I felt that SEKA charged us a very fair price and handled the whole move with professionalism and care. I would definitely recommend SEKA.

I think their motto truly lives up to itsself, moving never felt so good and easy. Nika and his crew were very professional, they wrapped everything in the appropriate blankets secured by tape and were careful to take apart furniture that needed to be taken apart and did everything very efficiently. When they arrived at my place in New Jersey, they carefully unloaded the truck and put everything where it belongs. They even took care to ensure that any bookcases, where the backing had come loose, they took the effort to resecure it. when they brought the furniture to New Jersey and unloaded the truck they rebuilt the furniture that they had taken apart and even accommodated precisely where it needed to go. They were very friendly, efficient and careful not to damage anything. A really great experience, thanks to Nika and his crew

Two stars because they are relatively cheap and sort of efficient. If you're wondering why there are so many glowing reviews - they give you a discount at the end of your move if you leave a positive review.
The sales process with these guys was so easy. Then came the actual move.
1) they went non-responsive after I signed the estimate. I reached out 6 days before my move for the COI for my building and there was no response.
2) they called the day before the move to confirm everything. I missed the call and the number you call back isn't a a real number, it's a Google number that isn't in service. They acknowledged that they had an issue and were looking into it when I did finally get a hold of someone. Their customer service line they give you in confirmation emails is the same story (this one is Verizon)
3) The day of the move the movers arrived and were relatively quick. However- they start to try to hustle you. I had 2 extra boxes over my inventory count and basically the head mover told me he can either tell the office or I can tip them more generously.

Worse moving experience! Really disappointed! When I initially contact to hire service it was great, but then my building requested COI, they kept sending it wrong and I tried to contact them and they kept saying they were going to answer and they never did. Finally they lost my furniture in my building! They left it in another floor and they said they were not going to pay because someone in my building stole it! I kept asking manager that service is door to door and that they needed to be responsable for my furniture! Luckly furniture was in a different floor, but I'm sure that if I didn't find it they would not have reimbursed anything! Strongly recommend to get a different service!
