They have a good selection of items but these guys are still playing covid! You cannot go inside nor can understand what they are saying with their masks.

Mike - We appreciate your comment about our selection. As for not being able to go inside our showroom - that is 100% due to a staff shortage. We are not playing covid. We are down to 2 people that work in the front office. That does not leave enough staff to be able to stock and staff the showroom. Our solution that has worked for the last 2 years is walk up slaes. We have a green umbrella at our roll-up door where we assist our customers Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm and Saturdays 8am-3pm. We bring our samples, discuss the customers needs and come up with solutions to their preparedness needs. Once a decision is made, we ring up the transaction. As mentioned, we are here for our customers.

I despise giving one star reviews, especially when I know the business and its products. But I have to ding them with this review because I drove all the way there only to find out that their showroom is closed to the public. I made sure to check their website before I left and it clearly stated their showroom hours with no mention of the showroom being closed due to the pandemic.
This place normally has an incredible selection of products but it is unfair to their customers to not have updated their website to reflect their closure.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Heidi H.Salt Lake City, UT1175132Oct 18, 2022
This place is way overpriced! I recently needed to get some new supplies and took at look at SOS online. First off they are closed inside. Second lots of stuff they sell is no better then items you can buy at the .99 cent store or DollarTree. A trip to a walmart camping section and the hardware aisle of Walmart should get you 85 to 90% to where you need to be for the average person in terms of supplies for kits. Another great resource for these types of items is amazon.com of course Costco and costco.com are going to also be a great option when they have emergency food, freeze dried items, tents outdoor cooking tools, generators flashlights, etc. I don't know about you, but with retail prices at an all-time high I'm looking to maximize what I can purchase for an earthquake, nuclear attack, fire, flood, zombie outbreak!

Heidi - I'm sorry you are unhappy with our pricing. We put a great deal of effort to offer competitive prices on the 5000 items we offer. The items we sell are also much higher quality than what you would find in a 99 cent store. We have to sell quality items as people rely on them when disasters strike.
Many of the varieties of items are offered with good, better and best options available.
Yes, our items are available in a hardware store, pharmacy, sporting good store and 10 other types of businesses. We have brought the 5000 items we offer to one location to cut down on confusion.
Our supplies have been used before, during and after natural disasters throughout the US for over 30 years. We hold ourselves to a high standard when it comes to quality.
Walk in retail store - Our store is closed to walk in business because we don't are short on the sales staff needed to re-open for walk in business. Even though the showroom is closed, we are still here 6 days per week to answer peoples questions and guide them in the proper direction to get themselves better prepared. This is a feature you can't find by shopping online only.
Please call 800 479-7998 or email me jeff@sosproducts.com should you have any questions or need to discuss items you are looking for. - Suzy H.Sherman Oaks, CA023867Jul 14, 2019
With the recent earthquakes, people are getting prepared or panicking or both.
They ran out of the pouches of water so I bought the water that lasts 25 years shelf time.
Anything that you need for your earthquake kit or even for camping, they have.
I was there last week so maybe they've stocked up more on the water and ready to eat food because at the time I was there. They were running low on the food.
Employees were nice and very helpful.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Steve M.Los Angeles, CA110May 17, 2018
Great place specializing in emergency supplies. They have it all from food to tools and lots of ways to stockpile water.
You might find items slightly cheaper online but here you can feel the quality and be sure items will do the job when it is really important.
Knowledgeable sales staff are always available and that is where the real savings occurs since they can recommend what you need not just what you can afford. I make it a goal to visit at least once a year as part of an annual family emergency response outing.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Randy W.Newport Beach, CA48144110Nov 25, 2019
My young son read an article in the LA Times, and we visited this store today. Met the owner Jeff, who has been operating here since the 90's! Found him and the staff helpful, and they are also participating in a canned food drive to help the community. We bought 20 cans of soup, and they gave us a discount. Our purchases came out to just about the same, but we also helped some people eat, so a win/win. Found a nice selection of goods with both helpful and knowledgeable advice. Thought prices were very fair and reasonable. My son enjoyed the experience and is building a kit for our family.

Warning first - you will spend money is this place. You will walk around and find the things you need, or the things you think you need, or the things you might need years from now (and they'll still be good!) or the things you never knew you needed.
Come in with a budget. Bring the amount you're willing to spend in cash, because otherwise you're going to blow a hole right through your checkbook.
It's a survival/prepping store in an industrial section of Van Nuys. They have classes, some free, some at a reasonable cost. They have everything you need to prepare for the next big disaster, be it an earthquake, a fire, or a zombie apocalypse. (seriously, they had first aid bags with "Zombie Response Kit" on them. Cute) They have first aid for you, they have first aid for your neighbors, they have first aid for your pets. Once again, that's not a joke, they have first aid packs designed for dogs and cats. They have water filtration systems. Signal flares. They have what you need if you're lost in the woods or hunkered down after the big one hit. It would be easier to list what they don't have: They don't have Eddie Bauer edition socks. But other than that, they have you covered.
The Mrs. and I always have a disaster kit on hand for whatever emergencies might arise in that area. We've had hurricane kits, tornado kits, blizzard kits and earthquake kits. If we had known this store was there, we could have built our earthquake kit in a fraction of the time at a much lower cost.
Go. Get thee prepared.
Oh, they also have a website and an online catalog. Again - go. Get thee prepared.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 24, 2018
If you need anything to prepare for a natural disaster then this is the place. If you just want to stock up on supplies to insure your first aid kit is ready when needed, this is the place. The staff is always friendly and willing to assist in any way they can.

Here's the thing. I could do a lot of research Or shop around for the best price on any given Black Friday/Monday. The thing is I can procrastinate or got or one one I trust to make sure that when the impossible happens, and we've had impossible happen a lot this year, and be prepared. SOS has done the work for me of sourcing emergency preparedness and didn't BA BS me woth too much stuff or brand names for more. They sent me a dual propane/gas generator and back up tanks so I don't have to worry about a power outage. Honestly, the piece of mind I have due to the trust this company engendered is worth the sale price 3x and also this was less expensive without a sale and I believe they will stand behind the products they sell. Thank you for taking care of this one emergency preparedness situation in one visit. Happy 2021
