When you're not sure what you want to eat so do a search and something intriguing pops up, that's how I ended up at Tengri Tagh Uyghur Cuisine in Rego Park. It's a small place which looks like a Chinese takeout spot, but there are 4 tables with menus and tablecloths to sit and enjoy. When we arrived we were surprised that there were 2 tables occupied. We ordered at the counter and the food was brought to our table.
We got the Handmade Noodles with Stir fried lamb, what a wonderful dish. The noodles were super long with a nice elasticity and bite. The lamb was tender, the dish had just a hint of spice and I couldn't stop eating it. The spicy chicken was small pieces of crispy chicken served with white rice. Another fabulous dish that had that addictive quality to it. Not overly spicy, but a bit hot and so flavorful.
We also got a baked bun to try which was filled with finely chopped lamb. Another really good bite. A plus of eating in is the house made hot tea which went perfectly with the food.
Everything is served on paper plates or takeout containers, which is fine because the food was that good.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jan 7, 2024
Tengri is a small Uyghur restaurant that was first located in Manhattan but has now opened another one in Rego Park. Service here is very friendly and the hand made noodles are delicious! I had the ground meat noodles and it was very filling and so flavorful. We also had a meat bun (samsa) and big plate chicken. The chicken comes with flat noodles. Loved the noodles as they are smooth and slightly chewy, but didn't really like the flavor of the chicken much. The spice level can be adjusted. The samsa was ok. It was a bit dry and the filling could use more flavor. Tea is complimentary. I would definitely get the noodles again!

A pleasant addition to the neighborhood. Based on Yelp recommendations, I ordered the hand-pulled noodles with stir-fried lamb. The noodles were really bouncy and had a good bite. The flavor was tasty and aromatic with a slight tinge of spiciness. There weren't that many lamb pieces, but a lot of mixed vegetables and wood ear mushrooms. The portion is decent, but definitely on the pricier side.
I also ordered the traditional Uyghur bread - this was a huge miss. It was dry and flavorless. Wished I hadn't gotten this to try.
Also, don't order on third-party platforms, I noticed a huge upcharge for my items vs the prices in-stores.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jun 17, 2023
Ordered a few items for takeout from this restaurant at the end of Austin Street. The stir fried noodles were excellent, which each strand being idiosyncratic and irregular, suggestive of their fresh preparation. The stir fried lamb was a tad spicy but delicious, with a great splash of cumin. The dumplings were decent, while not especially flavorful. The bread was uniquely dense but pretty good. Cucumber salad was refreshing. Overall was solid meal, though the prices were on the more expensive side.

Been a loyal customer for a straight 4 weeks. Just can't get tired of their food!!!
The food is always served hot and has a delicious aroma, arriving quickly after ordering. I find myself compelled to eat at least two plates each visit because of its irresistible taste!

Hidden gem in Rego Park on little Austin Street near Forest Hills. Lady, who may be the owner, was extremely polite and helpful explaining the available dishes. Everything we ordered was delicious and enough for more than one person. Cumin lamb was spicy, but not extremely "hot", more herbaceous than pure hot spice. They ran out of rice and gave a free order of pulled noodles. Everything was so delicious, we'll be coming back often!

AWESOME FOOD. Hadn't heard of Uyghur before this place came to the neighborhood. I'm so glad they're here!!! Kind folks inside! I asked them for a recommendation, and they suggested their popular hand pulled noodles with stir fried lamb. LOVE these noodles - so soft, chewy and definitely fresh. The flavor of the stir fried lamb was delightfully savory and aromatic. Just spicy enough - really accessible if you're nervous about trying an unfamiliar cuisine. Got the traditional Uyghur bread which kinda reminded me of a very light sesame bagel. Since they're new in town I got a complementary bun stuffed with what was likely lamb! YUM! Kinda curry flavored, similar to an Indian meat samosa but more rich and the pastry was perfectly soft.
So yummy. This will definitely be my go-to comfort food spot. Can't wait to try their other items!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Natalie C.Mineola, NY024Jan 11, 2024
This place is awesome! I only had one thing off of the menu, the handmade noodle with Uyghur style fried lamb. After trying this I can only imagine how good the rest of the food is off the menu. The workers are nice too and the inside is very cute. Def try this place out!!!!

Fantastic food. We had the stir fry and handmade noodles and they were absolutely delicious. All the ingredients were fresh and savory. One kid particularly liked the seasoning in the stir fry. The other liked the broth in the handmade noodles. The staff was friendly. We ate in and the restaurant is small but cozy and warm. Will come back.

Thought their lamb plov was dry and the rice undercooked. A bit bland as well. The baked lamb bread was also kinda bland but lots of lamb. The hand pulled noodles and lamb was good but again kinda bland and the lamb was really chewy and tough. The noodles were nice and fresh.
