I'm pleased to give a 5 star review to Value Dry Waterproofing regarding their recent work on our basement. It gives me so much peace of mind knowing that basement leaks are something that I never need to worry about again. Raul was very professional and knowledgeable; going above and beyond to answer all my questions. He was prompt, courteous and his workmanship was of the highest quality.

I contacted Value Dry via a contractor referral site where they had excellent reviews to waterproof our basement & install an egress window in our basement. It took them days to respond. That was the first red flag. When they did respond via the referral app, they said "Good morning, Thank you for reaching out to Value Dry Waterproofing, unfortunately we have been unable to reach you but will keep trying..."
No one from Value Dry tried to reach me. That was the first real contact from them. According to the referral site, all contact should be done via the referral portal for everyone's protection.
When I spoke to the person to make an appointment, they insisted that "all homeowners" be present for the inspection & that we needed to set aside 2.5 hours for it. They would not make the appointment unless we were willing to commit to those conditions.
So Shane, their inspector came by, showed us movies to explain everything, then spent roughly 1.5 hours looking things over then measuring & drawing diagrams & working up a proposal.
Then he sat me down to explain it all, go over the proposal & answer any questions.
His initial "MSRP", that's what he called it, was for $31,085.25.
When I balked, he quickly started lowering the price. For the egress window & well the price was $20,000!!
He offered to price match any other offer we obtained for the waterproofing, which he managed to lower near $8,000 because we didn't want this or that or absolutely need this or that. I felt like I was at a car dealership & negotiating the price & options for a new car.
Shane left me feeling like he was more interested in up selling us, than helping us solve our problems. He could fix our basement water issues but the priority was profit.
Shane arrived promptly at 4:00pm & left at 7:30pm.
We were flabbergasted that this company had so much time & effort to spend on this. Again, it reminded me of the time and effort it takes to purchase a car. Too much time, too much money, & I felt kind of abused by this company by the time Shane left.
Guess what, we aren't hiring them.
Caveat Emptor!!
UPDATE:
We have since hired another company that came in after Value Dry (see my other reviews to see who we hired) and they have excellent reviews (not just from me). Their salesman did a thorough evaluation, explained everything, offered a larger scope of work (comparing apples to apples) without trying to sell fancy unneeded add ons. Their price was still thousands of dollars lower than Value Dry. Their guys did excellent work. Whatever defense the Owner of Value Dry gives & does not want me to judge them by price or the amount of time their salesman (who was a gentleman) wasted, it ALL figures into a review.
So again, caveat emptor or as Sy Sims used say "An educated consumer, is our best customer!"Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you very much for your feedback related to the free inspection and the collaborative estimate that we provided for your basement waterproofing and egress window seepage issues. Yes, we do certainly meet with all homeowners since we are dealing with the foundation of their home, often their largest investment. There are options and decisions that need to be discussed and made that effect price and warranty coverage so it is important that all homeowners are an integral part of that solution design process.
I want you to know that I personally spoke with Shane, a stellar inspector and former senior crew chief installer for Value Dry, about your inspection and he assured me that he was very polite and thorough. Shane has installed hundreds of egress windows and basement waterproofing systems for Value Dry over the past 5 years.
As you can imagine with the recent rains we are very busy. We first received your digital inquiry on January 9th after phone room hours and we responded the next morning on January 10th to try and schedule your appointment. We scheduled your appointment via platform only communication for January 15th. I feel as though this is a very responsive and quality service not indicative of a 1 star review. We do prefer to speak in person with homeowners over the phone but you refused and only wanted to communicate via the platform per the phone room representative that you spoke with. (I did also spoke with the phone room representative as well to familiarize myself with the scheduling experience you received.) Shane also shared with me that when he compared our solution and discounted price with the other estimates that you had available that our pricing was very competitive if looked at in an APPLES to APPLES manner. Shane also informed me that our warranty and service capabilities were in fact superior than the others offered for a competitive price.
We wish you the best of luck with your project. As for your Caveat Emptor!! comment I completely agree with you. One important thing to note here is that you did not buy anything from Value Dry. We never provided you with a service only an estimate. That estimate can certainly vary as you add or remove features. Some folks want more peace of mind features than others. Do you need a battery back up sump pump? Not really until you loose electricity or your primary pump fails. Kind of like 4 wheel drive on a car. You don't really need it until the roads are snow covered... We feel that the results of the work is very important when reviewing a company. We consistently deliver a high dry basement peace of mind for our customers. As you know people often pay more money for a luxury car like a Mercedes or BMW than they do for lessor models.
We feel that providing a 1 star review to a company because the price for their work or how they present the price was not how you wanted it to be is unwarranted. We prefer to be judged by our work, the results of it, how we stand behind it, and the service we have provide those whom have trusted us over the past 20 years in over 10,000 homes in the Mid-Atlantic region.
If you would like a second opinion, evaluation, inspection and estimate directly from the owner of ValueDry (me) please feel free to CALL the office and schedule a time for me to personally come out and look at your situation and give you our best and final price.
I'm sorry we were unable to earn your business and that we didn't meet your expectations. I wish you the best with your project.
The most inexpensive solution is not always the best value, especially when there are transferable warranties, service capabilities and water seepage involved. I can't count on two hands how many companies I have seen come and go over the past 20 years in the waterproofing space. We are still here, providing stellar service, standing behind our warranties under the same name management.

Our basement passed the Ophelia test -- all dry! Bill Strong was our first contact. He created the plan that Raul Garcia and his little band of professionals executed. Raul recommended a modification to the plan when we discovered hidden issues. The crew was on time, cleaned up after the work and were a pleasure to have in the house. I highly recommend Value Dry and the Bill/Raul team!

I really don't like to write reviews, especially when or if the service provided is not that good. In this case, my review is about the customer service in lieu of an estimate I was seeking for a potential project - still presently pending. First and foremost, I made the call seeking an estimate for a waterproofing project in the lower level of my home. Cutting right to the chase, Bill is truly a "salesman" at heart and pushed the necessity of installing a Sump Pump in the lower level of my home. I don't doubt he's knowledgeable and/or experienced; and even know the "science of water." I'm happy for him, but getting work done to this extent is excessive and not what I need; and yes, water does what it does and goes where it goes. But my house does not flood, nor have I had any flooding issues or intrusion of water. There is dampness in the right/left corners of my home where the waterspouts are positioned outside. Bill had no interest in putting an outer barrier in those areas where dampness is present and admitted that he wouldn't do it because I need a sump pump! Most of his comments were condescending and rude for whatever reason. And I'm almost certain if a man were present, he would not have made a lot of the sarcastic comments that he did. My voice, my words, and what I was requesting was not important and frankly, I just don't think he gave a damn. Because according to him/Bill, he knew everything about water and what I needed as well as giving me all the worse scenarios of what would/could happen. Never mind the other waterproofing options or alternatives available that he said he wouldn't do and considered it a waste - then why does the company offer the alternatives! I'm not interested in doing business with a company that doesn't or won't listen to the customer/consumer but rather insist on selling me what they think I need. And I may need a sump pump at some point; maybe 5 - 10 years from now, but that's not what I'm looking to get at the present moment. And you/Bill don't have to agree with me. But at the end of the day, the final decision isn't yours, it's mine.

Thank you very much for your feedback and for posting the pictures of your basement. Per the visible deterioration of the finishings visible in your pictures it is evident that your basement has taken on water not just humidity. ValueDry is in the business of providing long term warrantable solutions. It sounds as if you are looking for a short term remedy to your problem.
You can certainly choose a short term fix for your issue but as you state that fix will not prevent you from needing the solution that we recommended in the future. The expenditure on the fix could be put towards the permanent solution correct? Now I understand if that is not in your budget currently but in all fairness that is not reason to provide us with a 2 star review. As a policy we work to provide maintainable long term solutions, not band-aid fixes for our customers.
I, James Ketterer, owner of ValueDry will personally come to look at your basement if you would like. I must say per the pictures my recommendations will more than likely be very similar in nature to those you have already received.
This does not make ValueDry a company deserving of a 2 star review. Rather it makes Value Dry a company that recommends the right solution up front. Safeguarding the health of our customers and preventing them from spending unnecessary money on unwarrantable fixes from the start.
We wish you the best with your project. Should you want a long term comprehensive solution to your issue feel free to reach out and I will personally make myself available in the future.
All the Best,
Jim Ketterer - President and Owner

I've got a significant "dampness" issue in the crawl space of my house. The estimate to the fix the problem that I received from one of Value Dry's competitors was astronomical (more than $35K)! The inspector that I've been working with at Value Dry, Andre W., has been simply great in working out a solution to the water problem. Not only did he suggest some immediate affordable short term fixes, he came up with a long term solution that will save me almost $20k! I'm looking forward to all of the work being completed within the next few weeks. Thanks Andre!

Terrible experience due to lack of research on our part. The salesman sold us surgery for an issue that required a bandaid. Overall, I strongly recommend conducting research on waterproofing methods before reaching out to contractors, and once you've reached that point, don't contact this company. When the subcontractors finished installing the sump pump and drain that we didn't need, the lead guy specifically stated, "you didn't need this." Also, the sales person improperly mapped the basement for installation, so we had to spring for an electrician to install a new outlet for said sump pump. Very deceptive and expensive practices. BEWARE.

To Whom it May Concern. Please feel free to reach out to Value Dry in order to speak with the owner where we can set up a personal visit to your property. During the visit, I will certainly pay attention to any suggestions that you have related to how we can improve our customer experience. Value Dry stands behind its work and warranties.
As outlined in our agreement, often during an installation, changes need to be made in order to adjust the positioning of the sump pump well, so the system is properly installed for maximum protection. Value Dry is not in the business of providing band-aids because they fall off in the water. We provide systems that we can stand behind.
