Public Transit

The illegal (quicker) way

Middlesex Bindery is a 10 minute illegal walk from Lowell MBTA Commuter Rail station or 1/2 hour legal walk.

Take the Lowell commuter rail line from North Station to Lowell (end of the line). It’s a Zone 6 ticket (currently $10.50 from Zone 1 or 1A, or check for your interzone fare).

Exit the front of the station and turn left onto Thorndike Street. Follow the “sidewalk” up over the hill and down the other side (cross Appleton and Middlesex streets). Coming down the hill, you will see a building saying “Lowell Five Bank” painted on the side (you won’t get that far). At the bottom of the hill, there is a Dunkin Donuts on the left. Enter the DD parking lot and walk all the way to the back. There will be two sets of railroad tracks protected by some jersey barriers. Cross the tracks.

THIS IS ILLEGAL. THESE ARE LIVE FREIGHT TRACKS. CHECK BOTH DIRECTIONS BEFORE CROSSING WITH CARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

The building on the other side of the tracks is the Western Avenue Studios campus. Bear right down the street and cross around to the parking lot at front of the building on your left, and enter the main entrance.

The legal (longer) way

Take the train, same as before and follow Thorndike Street as before. At the top of the hill, cross the first street (Appleton St) then cross and turn left at second intersection onto Middlesex St.  Pass Clemente Park on your right then bear right to stay on Middlesex St. At the light, turn right onto School Street. Go down then up the hill and turn right onto Western Ave (you will see the signs). At the end of the street is Western Avenue Studios. Follow directions above to the 3rd floor.

Other ways

The Lowell train station is also served by LRTA and MVRTA.
