Uyghur Food in the Heart of Midtown - Tengri Tagh Uyghur Cuisine (Copy)

Who could resist a plateful of 13 dumplings? Not us.

Tengri Tagh Uyghur Cuisine (@tengri_tagh_uyghur_cuisine_nyc) is located in the heart of midtown on W 37th street. It’s owned by a lovely senior couple who make all the food from scratch.

Beef and Onion dumplings

Food: 9/10
The food was excellent - we ordered rice noodles, stir-fried noodles, polo rice, dumplings, lamb pie, and a bun slider. We truly cannot pick a favorite dish because all of them were well made and tasty. The reason we got two different noodles was because we never tried Uyghur rice noodles before - and we do not regret ordering it. It was nice and chewy and soaked up the flavor of the sauces beautifully. The dumplings were more on the sweeter side, but it comes with chilli oil, so you have the freedom to make it more savory and spicy.

Price: 6/10
The prices here are more on the pricier side, but it’s understandable because it’s in a commercial zip code. The only caveat we can imagine is if you’re really wanting to try many items on the menu - which, in our experience, is tempting (and you might just give in, we don’t blame you) - then it can add up very fast to your bill. The noodles are priced at a standard $12-$14, the lamb pie was $17, and the 13 dumplings were $13, which all factors to our rating.

Atmosphere: 10/10
The restaurant is kind of easy to miss. It’s very narrow and has a shack-like interior. The aesthetic is very dim and it’s very quiet and cozy - something we really appreciated in contrast to the bustling midtown area. The seats are booths style.

Service: 9/10
The service is fast, you seat yourself, order on the menu to the server (which in our case, was the owner) and she/he will come back with your food in a standard 10-15 minutes.
