"Wet" Saguaro - Fell Over! - What's Up? Our neighbor lost a beautiful tall Saguaro. It started "leaking" a dark liquid from it's side about one third of the way up. It looked wet in one area, and we commented on it. Looked like dark brown water or a thicker-than-water substance and the whole side of the Saguaro from that point had this oozing. Now, a month later, that Saguaro fell over - exactly from that "wet" area, just broke and toppled into their yard. Has anyone ever seen this? We have many healthy Saguaros in the next property over and they appear fine, but as you know, some of them have taken a real beating down near the bottom of the cactus. It's amazing how some of them are green and healthy up top, while giant chunks of them are gone from the bottom. Here, I thought Saguaro's could handle anything, but clearly there's some kind of deadly disease that can affect them (this "leaking"). Does anyone know what this problem is called and how to avoid it?

I had the same thing but it was close to the base. I had a cactus expert out and was told it was necrosis and would fall at some point. It was near the house so decided to have it See more
