Providence residents: I HEAVILY DISCOURAGE YOU FROM DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. Go with a local junk removal company that is friendlier and won't overcharge you as this company did to us. Moreover, College Hunks engages into despicable virtue signalling: we had plenty of donate-able goods yet they junked everything, and theil "meal-giving" program is infuriating: 2 meals offered on a $2800 job. IRS values a donated meal at 11cents! 22 cents donated on $2,800! If that alone is not enough to convince you about their dishonest marketing, I can't do much more for you. Yann M. I quoted two local companies, one of which came on-site and gave me an estimate of $1,400. I then contacted college hunks and provided them with an accurate list (they never disputed that) of items. They estimated (on record) 1.5 trucks at $775/truck, with some additional fees for mattresses and special items, for undisclosed amounts. So I estimated a bill roughly in line with the local companies, but likes the environmental and meal pledges. Huge mistake! They ended up charging me a $2,400+ bill (how is that not a "bait-and-switch" strategy!), trashing everything to the dump (plenty of things were donate-able!), and donating a whopping TWO MEALS! Unfortunately, my partner who is a very friendly and non-confrontional soul signed on the check (and even tipped 15%) before I could see it. I contacted college hunks straight away. Instead of offering any apologies, they tried to argue that "this is how the industry works". Apparently bait-and-switch is an industry standard! When I threatened to dispute the charge through the BBB and my credit card company, they said a manager would reach out (but was on "holidays"!). The manager never reached out. After another exchange they offered $240 (10%), which is less than the tip we left. Adding insult to injury! If you've read so far, I really hope you will consider working with someone local who will actually donate goods in usable condition, and charge you a pre-approved price with reasonable margins for unexpected expenses.
