Job Search and Life Balance. When you are in the midst of a job search, it can feel like you do not have a life outside of this endeavor. The process of seeking a new job can be demanding, both emotionally and time-wise. STRATEGIES TO HELP YOU NAVIGATE THIS JUGGLING ACT ◼️ Establish A Structured Routine - While job searching can feel like a job itself, it's crucial to set boundaries. Allocate specific hours to job hunting, ideally during your most productive times of the day, and stick to them. ◼️ Effective Time Management - Avoid procrastination and stay organized. Use tools like calendars, to-do lists, spreadsheets, and time management apps to help you stay on track. ◼️ Break Your Job Search Into Manageable Tasks - Rather than sending out tons of applications, create a schedule that includes time for researching companies, tailoring your resume and cover letter, networking, and preparing for interviews. ◼️ Prioritize Self-Care - Job hunting can be stressful, and maintaining your well-being is essential. Regular exercise, adequate sleep, and a balanced diet will help keep you physically and mentally fit. ◼️ Networking - This is another critical component of balancing your job search with your life. Attend industry events, connect with professionals on LinkedIn, and engage in informational interviews to learn about potential options in other industries. ◼️Remain Adaptable and Open to Change. Job searches can be unpredictable, and sometimes, opportunities arise when you least expect them. Explore different industries or roles that align with your skills and interests.

It is common to focus on 'hard' skills when applying to and keeping jobs (spreadsheets, data entry, budgeting, fundraising knowledge, onboarding). However, skills such as emotional intelligence, listening, interpersonal skills, flexibility, time management, and multitasking are highly sought-after traits by employers. In fact, employees are sometimes terminated due to a lack of these soft skills rather than job-related abilities. Examples are failing to follow through on tasks or repeated lateness. Incorporate soft skills into your #resume bullet points to emphasize these abilities.

Here are a couple of suggestions for easing interview anxiety: 🔹 Refrain from figuring out what the interviewer WANTS to hear. There are no wrong answers (unless it is a technical interview). This is about you, so remember you bring unique experience and skills. 🔹 Listen. It is easy to get ahead of yourself and anticipate what the interviewer wants to hear. You do not want to have to say, ‘Can you repeat that?’ Stay in the moment. www.ktscareercoaching.com
