Pacifica Police Kill Woman Suspected Of Shooting Son

Police allege the woman pointed a gun at officers while fleeing the scene before she was shot.

PACIFICA, CA — Officers responding to reports of a mother who shot her son in Pacifica Wednesday morning fatally shot the woman after she pointed a gun at them, according to police.

In a news release, police officials said a man called 911 shortly before 8 a.m., telling dispatchers his mother had shot him inside their apartment on Francisco Boulevard. As two officers arrived at the address, police said they saw the suspect driving from the scene. As they made contact with the woman, the officers said she pointed a gun at them and was fatally shot.

Officials said the woman died at the scene, and her son was recovering in stable condition at the hospital.

Further details on the circumstances of both shootings were not immediately available. The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office will complete an independent investigation into the police shooting.
