Your Drone in Louisville

Waterfront Park in Louisville is a recreation space along the Ohio River that has something for everyone. There’s a huge lawn area to relax, a playground, and a stage for special events. The Big Four Bridge is an old railroad truss bridge that spans majestically over the Ohio River. This place is alive. There are endless opportunities for drone users to capture some amazing footage of the green landscape, various structures, passing ships, and downtown views.

The historical George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge, more commonly known as Second Street Bridge, is a truss bridge that crosses the Ohio River. You can get great drone shots of this bridge easily by launching at either side of the river. At night, the city skyline reflected off the river makes for endless opportunities to frame your aerial shots.

Jefferson Memorial Forest Park is in Kentucky’s Knobs region, just southwest of Louisville. The 6500-acre space is the largest urban forest in the US. This park works for the entire local community. It serves as a trekking, camping, and educational space for individuals, couples, families, and groups. The forest is also a tribute to US veterans.

Jefferson Memorial Park holds huge appeal for camera drone pilots. It has fabulous views of the serene lake, streams, dense mature oak trees, and trails that navigate lofty slopes.

The Tom Sawyer State Park has a dedicated RC flying field that is being ran by the River City Radio Controllers Club (RCRC). Pilots must be current members of the AMA to fly in this field. If you want regular access, you will need to sign up for RCRC membership. Spectators are always open whenever the front gate is open.

As the name implies, Riverview Park is located right alongside the Ohio River and is a great spot for catching a view of the water. It’s a fairly small park and the boat dock is its most distinct feature. While flying from the park is prohibited, you have the option of either launching from private property right outside the park or flying your drone from the Indiana side of the Ohio River.

Long Run Park is a clean, welcoming space that sits alongside Louisville’s Long Run Golf Course. It checks all the essential boxes of what a perfect recreational park should be. This peaceful place has a beautiful, smooth tree-lined lake, open fields, and a clear pathway for walkers to stroll.

There are 123 parks in Louisville, Kentucky, including the historic 284-acre Shawnee Park. The park boasts an expansive green space, so there’s no shortage of scenic spots to take photos of. You can see the Duke Energy Gallagher Power Plant from here. The plant adds an interesting backdrop for creative aerial photographers.
