After a year of collaboration, Lufthansa Technik showed its final Mercedes-Benz Style VIP interior at NBAA. The design is for narrow-body aircraft cabins like those on Boeing Business Jets or Airbus AJC business jets, aircraft that can hold up to 150 passengers. This very special interior is designed for a fortunate 16 guests. During a virtual 3-D presentation, Wieland Timm, vice president of corporate sales VIP and Special Mission at Lufthansa Technik, said the Mercedes VIP cabin “moves the boundaries of cabin design.” Timm said the seamless look between the floor, walls, and ceiling took its engineers time to figure out but the result is exceptional. “They eliminated the typical visible joints and that’s something that has never been done before,” he said.
The cabin has a helix shape that, according to Timm, allowed the designers to minimize wall zones. The modern decor comes with lots of curves and soft angles, featuring traditional Maybach and Mercedes S-Class colors. The galley area in front is designed for “live” cooking as opposed to heat/serve, while the aft entertainment center blends with a “private” zone. The zone includes an open-plan bedroom, featuring a king-size bed and full en-suite bathroom with a glass shower. The virtual-reality tour showed a design that was unique to aviation. “Our two companies combine top design excellence with top technical expertise, so we’ve been able to design a one-of-a-kind interior,” said Timm.
