Sangeh is famous for being a village where monkeys roam freely and are sacred to locals in a forest. The name Sangeh is believed by the local community to be closely related to the Nutmeg Forest.

The Sangeh forest has 600 tame long-tailed gray macaques (Macaca fascicularis). Sangeh is also known for the existence of a homogeneous forest area of 13,968 hectares containing hundreds of years of nutmeg forest (Dipterocarpus trinervis).
Bukit Sari Temple
In the middle of the forest there is also a temple called Pura Bukit Sari. Bukit Sari Temple is a relic of the Mengwi Kingdom in the 17th century and there is a Wadon Lanang Tree.
