What is Dhara ?

Dhara is an amazingly relaxing therapy which gently releases stress and tension from the mind and body depending up on the specified area used. A steady stream of warm, herbal oils flows rhythmically allowed to fall on the specified area help in soothing the nervous system. It induces feelings of profound peace and happiness.

Types of Dhara

Ksheer Dhara

This is a type of dhara procedure in which medicated herbs such as Mustha, Chandana, Kachola, Usheera, Hrivera etc. mixed with Milk (Ksheera) and Water making a Kizhi by Mixing water & milk in a vessel which is deep & the kizhi is suspended in vessel with the help of stick & rope. Then vessel keeps over the stove on mandagni & make Ksheeravashesha. This medicine used for sheero dhara. In which continuous flow of medicated milk to the centre of forehead continuously for up to an hour a day. The process can last from 7 to 21 days.

Benefits of Ksheer Dhara

This treatment is ideal for persons, who are suffering from mental disorders, insomnia, inflammation (caused by climacteric), paralysis, and chronic or slight fever.

Takra Dhara

Takra dhara is a form of shirodhara, an Ayurvedic treatment method which involves continuous flow of medicated butter milk to the centre of forehead continuously for up to an hour a day. The process can last from 7 to 21 days.

Benefits of Takra Dhara

It is a cure for vata predominant diseases, relieves tension and cures certain types of skin diseases. It is very cooling and very effective in skin diseases, like psoriasis.

Taila Dhara

Procedure will be same as above but medicine in the form of medicated oil fall on the centre of head for certain duration.

Benefits of Taila Dhara

It is helpful in treating vascular and tensional headache, insomnia, anxiety, cerebral palsy, cervical spondylosis, tinnitus and finally as relation treatment.

Kashya Dhara

This is a process by which the body is made to perspire by means of pouring warm decoction from special herbs with a special vessel from a certain height in a rhythmic manner and is rubbed into the body.

Benefits of Kashya Dhara

This method removes ‘aml’ or toxins from the tissues and promotes metabolism, removes tension from the muscles and also good for pain and stiffness of the joints and muscles etc.

Dhanyamla Dhara

This a special type of Dhara treatment in which warm herbal liquid which is prepared by adding certain medicated herbs like kulattha kangu(sajje), tandula, ajamoda, kodrava Parched rice (avalakki), aaja, shunti, lemon mixed in 100 liters of water in a vessel of 150 liters capacity is poured all over the body in a rhythmic way through a special vessel for 1 hour daily for 7 to 14 days.

Benefits of Dhanyamla Dhara

It is a remedy for hemiplegia paralysis rheumatic complaints and vatha predominant diseases etc.

Sarvanga Dhara

This is a treatment process in which herbal oil, medicated milk, butter milk etc, are poured in a continuous stream all over the body for 30 minutes to one hour.

Benefits of Sarvanga Dhara

An extremely soothing and relaxing therapy that acts as a free radical scavenger, toning, strengthening and deeply rejuvenating the whole body. It helps to sooth the frayed nerve ends, promotes circulation, relieves stress & strain, relaxes muscles & induces sleep. The treatment is continued for seven to 21 days

Shiro dhara

It included under the banner of murdha taila in which liquid is poured on the fore head in a rhythmic pattern for a stipulated time.

Pizhichil

This is an Ayurveda treatment involves in squeezing a cloth soaked in oil over the body. Oils are then applied over the head and body for about 60 to 90 minutes per day for a period of 7 to 21 Days.

Benefits of Pizhichil

This Treatment increases the blood circulation, nourishes muscles, nerves tissues and sexual ability. Pizhichil Ayurveda treatment is also effective for Paraplegia, Hemiplegia and general debility.
