The range is not that long, but it feels open enough to have a hit

I came out to the Shinagawa Golf Center at Oimachi to have a hit of golf. Oimachi is one station down from Shinagawa on the Keihin-tokhoku Line. The range is close to the station and not that expensive. The booth cost 300 yen to hire and then the balls had to be paid for on top. It cost me about 2,000 Yen to hit approx 100 balls.

The land is actually shared with Mitsubishi Juko. Maybe they own it and love golf

Normally I go out to Kasai where there is a much bigger (250 yard and about 300 booth) range, but sometimes close is good and the SGC had some laid back charm in a crowded city feel about it. Kasai also normally ends up costing me about YEN 10,000.

You can walk easily from Oimachi Station. It only takes about 4-5 minutes. Some people come by car, and in this photo you can see a few bikes as well.

Where do you normally practice your golf in Japan?

I’m not a golfer, so I’ve never been to an area like that. I remember the game show they were running on american Tv,’I Survived A Japanese Game Show” where the loosing team had to go to one of those and help keep it clean, and then they had to go out and pickup the golf balls that were all over. Even though they were in a covered device, they were still afraid to go out. but I do enjoy watching the major matches on Tv. Especially last weeks presidents Cup tournament. That Ryo is quite a pretty good golfer, gave Tiger and Strickler all they could handle during the team competition.

  • That kind of places do not exist where I live, but there is a golf club just 10 minutes of car away.
Problem is that you have to subscribe for a year, and it’s not cheap 🙁

Let’s see if there’s going to be a spike in golf centers after the olympic games.

Btw, how much time do 100 balls last?

    • I had me lunch in between hitting balls so it took about 1 hour. If I go to Kasai where you can hit a lot more balls, I would probably hit 100 in a shorter space of time. Good practice is probably slower practice. All the books say ‘nice slow swing’ 😉
