on

Now that restaurants have reopened for dine-in service, we checked out a newly opened fast food place in Vancouver’s West End on Denman Street

Their menu is quite concise, made up of fried chicken, chicken sandwiches and sides.

We arrived around 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon in early June, and were immediately seated.  We placed our orders at the counter, and took our seats, while the staff prepared our food (it was all made-to-order, as opposed to pre-made sitting under heat lamps).

We started with an order of onion rings

This were decent rings.  They were hot, lightly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.  The seasoning was about right.

Next came the order of fried chicken wings.

This is a half dozen wing pieces.  They were dredged in a batter and deep fried to a crunch, and served with a pair of dipping sauces.  One was spicy sweet, and other was salty and very spicy.

These were good wings.  The batter is well seasoned, and the chicken was hot, tender and juicy.

Then came an order of fried chicken legs (three pieces)

These were battered in the same coating as the chicken wings, and similarly deep fried to a light crunch.  Like the wings, these legs were hot, tender juicy and well seasoned.

The last item was the fried chicken burger

This was a crispy breast of chicken, battered and deep-fried, served on a split brioche bun with a tangy coleslaw, pickled onions, and sweet pickles.

Overall, this is a good sandwich.  The deep fried chicken breast was hot and crunchy, and sizable, albeit slightly overcooked. The coleslaw was crisp, cool and tangy.  The pickled onions and sweet pickles provided some nice sweet and sour snap.

The dining room is a minimalist and functional.

Half the tables were blocked off to facilitate social distancing.  Actually we were the only diners in the restaurant at the time (although a few take out orders came and went while we were in the restaurant.

The staff were pleasant and courteous.
