The magical theme was what drew me to this new bar located along the Boardwalk. Well that and the fact that my friends and I were having dinner next door at Flying Fish. So why not meet at AbracadaBar for a pre-dinner cocktail?
That cocktail was chosen from AbracadaBar’s menu of Curious Cocktails…
Hunter chose the Parlor Trick…
Parlor Trick – An Old Fashioned cocktail that celebrates old fashioned magic. Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon, Simple Syrup, and a splash of Soda Water
Despite it name, this was the only one of our drinks that had no “trick” or magic involved.
Paula’s cocktail choice was a bit more magical. It was brought to our table looking like this…
Then our server waved a magic wand over the glass, said “Abracadabar”, and added a “magical potion” to Paula’s drink…
And it was magically transformed from purple to pink…
I joined Paula and Hunter just as this was being delivered to our table, so I didn’t actually hear what drink that Paula ordered. In discussing this review, they identified it as the Elixir 13 (Lucid Absinthe and Water) but that doesn’t seem to match up with other photos I’ve seen of the Elixir cocktail. It looks a little more like one of the non-alcoholic drinks on the menu, the Magic Mirror. But I’m pretty sure this one had alcohol, so in other words, this cocktail is a bit of a mystery. It could be the Elixir 13 or possibly something else???
I do know what I ordered though. This was definitely the The Conjurita, which was brought to me like this…
Then placed into a magic cup by our server…
And when poured back into my glass…TAADAA!
The Conjurita – A colorful Margarita that never reveals it’s secrets! Gran Centenario Plata Tequila, Cointreau, Simple Syrup, and Lime Juice
Despite it’s pink color, this tasted like a classic margarita. It was good, but nothing special.
So I must admit that I was a little disappointed with the Abracadabar. For some reason I was expecting there to be magicians walking around performing small magic tricks for the bar’s patrons. However, the only magic we saw during our visit was the changing of our purple drinks to pink. Well that and making our money disappear.
So while this place has an interesting backstory and theme, in my opinion it doesn’t quite live up to its potential.
