Braga - Guimarães

Departure from the hotel at 8:30 am to Braga, capital of the Minho region, with strong religious traditions. Visits to Sameiro Sanctuary and Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary. We continue to the Historic Center and visit the Cathedral of Braga, also known as Sé de Braga. Stop for lunch. In the afternoon, departure to Guimarães, considered the birthplace of Portugal, as it was there that D. Afonso Henriques, Portugal’s first king, was born. Visit to the historic center, Guimarães Castle and Paço dos Duques.

The city of Braga is one of the main religious centers in the country, with an emphasis on the Holy Week and Saint John Festivals, a highlight of the liturgical and tourist calendar.

Marian shrine with strong proof of the Christian heritage in the city. Stunning building that attracts a large number of devotees and tourists. Mount Sameiro is the highest point in the city, and you can enjoy beautiful views.

UNESCO World Heritage, a place of devotion and pilgrimage, it was the first to be installed in Portugal, in 1882. Highlight for the staircase that leads to the top, formed by 17 decorated levels.

It was the birthplace of the bishopric foundation. According to tradition, São Tiago Maior left his disciple São Pedro de Rates as the first bishop.

Much of the built structure dates back to the 17th century and was built with traditional construction techniques.

Known as the birthplace of nationality, Guimarães Castle was also the birthplace of Portugal’s first king, D. Afonso Henriques.

In the museum, there are Persian rugs, Flemish tapestries (with a theme about Portuguese conquests in North Africa) and paintings, such as the Paschal Lamb of Josefa de Óbidos or the portrait of D. Catarina de Bragança.
