Chinese Fish Paste Noodles

Woo Pin 45 Kamunting @ Chow Kit – Fish Paste Noodles? Yesssssssssss :)

About a week ago, after our lunch at Rise & Shine – Rise & Shine by Tapestry @ Chow Kit – A nice change from the usual (Pork Free) , we decided to walk along the same stretch of road for a bit, to explore and see if there were any other eateries worth exploring in the near future.

Woo Pin 45 Kamunting/ Woo Pin Fish Head Noodle House ( I do not know which name to use, lol. Their receipt uses the latter but online searches and their official website suggest the former) pretty much faces Rise & Shine. At first glance, I assumed it was just another noodle house. As I got closer though, I began to notice how full and crowded it was, every table was occupied to an extent that there was a short line near the counter waiting for a vacant spot.

Fast forward a week later, here we were back again on this stretch, with the sole intention of giving this noodle house a go.

** I apologize for the lack of pictures, phone was acting up again.  Will provide more shots during our next visit.

I generally stay away from any eatery that has ‘fish head’ in its name. I usually take it literally, meaning that I assume there would actually be a chunk of fish head in the dishes I was about to order. I blame it on the ‘phobia’ I developed from seeing one of my friends eat a piece of fish head while having lunch at a mamak restaurant. I was cool about it until he started poking and eating its eye. Ugh. Ever since there, I’ve kept away from anything related to ‘fish head’.

My friends were literally convincing me the whole 5 minutes we had to wait in line for a table, convincing me that there would be no fish head and as soon as I saw the Menu, ooooo the relief. Food was good. I especially loved the broth. It was milky and the taste of fish paste was evident, prominent. The dose of Chinese wine was a good addition, it provided that extra ‘kick’, one that made slurping the broth an even more joy. They had 3 options for noodles and while I was intending to have my dish with YM – yellow mee, the waiter suggested that it would go better with MH – mee hoon. Since they do not offer an option of mixed noodles, I went along with their suggestion. The noodles sure were generously portioned. I was very hungry when I arrived and by the time I was done, I sure was stuffed. Burp 🙂
