Gary is a passionate entrepreneur and life-long learner. As a calculated risk-taker who thrives on creating opportunity for others, he is constantly redefining his comfort zone while helping others to redefine their comfort zones and unlock their “golden shackles” that are holding them back from achieving their next-level financial and lifestyle goals.

Gary’s 30+ years of experience in the Canadian franchising industry makes him an industry-leading and much-sought-after consultant and expert. Having been on every side of the franchise business table, he has bought single, multi-unit, and master franchises for himself, brought US franchise concepts to Canada, helped companies to become franchisors, and coached hundreds of entrepreneurs. For over 10 years, Gary was involved in growing one of Canada’s largest human skills training companies, eventually building it to over 100 licensed locations across Canada. During his tenure, he achieved certification in over 15 training methodologies and facilitated strategic planning, leadership development, and sales training for a wide range of companies. He has facilitated hundreds of workshops on a wide range of subjects.

Gary and his team at FranNet have helped over 2,000 prospective franchisee clients to fully explore their self-employment options. Since 2002, Gary has been a franchisee with FranNet, eventually becoming a multi-unit owner and top performing franchisee.

In writing The Unstoppable Franchisee, Gary drew upon his training roots to ensure that the concepts and actionable ideas in the book are easily understood, relatable, and importantly, able to be immediately implemented.

Industry Leadership

As a multiple-term member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Franchise Association (CFA), Gary is able to stay abreast of leading trends in the franchise industry. He has served on numerous committees and is a frequent thought leadership contributor. He is a regular speaker at CFA events, including franchise shows, online webinars, and annual conferences. He has appeared on regional and national TV/radio shows, and is a sought-after media resource.

As a philanthropist, Gary believes strongly in giving back to the communities he serves and has been involved in numerous volunteer and fundraising efforts. A portion of all bulk book sales placed directly through Gary’s company will be donated back to the IFA Foundation and other preferred charities.

Gary enjoys mentoring entrepreneurs and business leaders and is a volunteer mentor for emerging franchisors for the Canadian Franchise Association. He is a past co-chair of FranNet’s Franchise Advisory Committee and has also served on FranNet’s Board of Directors.

Personal Interests

Some of Gary’s personal passions include time with his family, reading, business writing, gourmet cooking, gardening, global adventure travel. Outdoor adventures including skiing, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, fly-fishing and survival training round out the list. Gary shares that one of his most memorable vacations was walking the Camino de Santiago.

KULA Yoga teacher training 2008 – 2009: 200-hour yoga instructor training

Georgetown Aikido 1995 – 2000: martial arts. While he is no longer able to practice the martial art of Aikido due to injury, Gary still applies the teachings and disciplines of this martial art in his business and personal life.
