Overview
The Climate Smart Communities Initiative (CSCI) is a national effort designed to increase the capacity of communities across the country to proactively address climate-related impacts, with a central commitment to prioritizing the needs of communities that are on the front lines of the climate crisis.
The four-year initiative will provide direct support to communities through a competitive grantmaking program, and offer other resources, including a dynamic training program for community leaders and resilience practitioners; an online registry to help match interested communities with qualified practitioners; and a Knowledge Sharing Platform.
The competitive grantmaking program will begin in 2024 and continue through at least 2027. The grants will be aimed at enabling eligible communities to work with a trained climate resilience practitioner, and develop or advance a climate resilience plan or project using the Steps to Resilience (StR) framework.
The CSCI is being managed by a consortium of partners, including the Climate Resilience Fund (CRF), EcoAdapt, Fernleaf, Geos Institute, and ICF, working closely with the NOAA Climate Program Office.
