Ensuring the safety and security of your home is a top priority for any homeowner. As a trusted locksmith company, Troman Locksmiths understands the importance of a robust security system. In this blog post, we'll share essential tips and insights to help you enhance the security of your residence. 1. **Choose High-Quality Locks**: The foundation of home security starts with the locks you choose. Opt for high-quality deadbolt locks for exterior doors, as they provide an added layer of protection against forced entry. Additionally, consider upgrading to smart locks that offer convenient features like remote control and activity logs. 2. **Reinforce Entry Points**: Weak entry points make your home vulnerable to break-ins. Reinforce doors and windows by installing strike plates, which help prevent doors from being kicked open. Window locks and security bars can also deter potential intruders. 3. **Secure Sliding Doors**: Sliding doors are popular entry points for burglars. Install a b

Burglaries in the area

Image
The area I live in, like many others in the northwest, have been subject to an onslaught of burglaries and car thefts. Due to a lack of resources these thefts largely go unpunished, so, what can we do?  Whenever I get this question, as a locksmith, my response is always the same. Upgrade your locks and handles! High security anti snap locks and handles will stop lock snapping burglars in their tracks. Standard locks and handles are easy work for a burglar to by pass but the high security alternatives are incredibly effective against lock snappers.  Take a look at the difference here in the photos and decide for yourself. If you'd like to upgrade your locks and handles today book a lock change with Troman Locksmiths. Our number is 07710625852 and our website is www.tromanlocksmiths.com . Lock Picking

Image
As time goes by and my understanding of locks and locksmithing grows, I'm realising just how important regular practice is.  Over the Christmas period I didn't really pick up my lock picks or try to work on any new kinds of locks while having a well earned break. This week or two off really showed when I recently sat down to practice. I had lost my touch when it came to tension and feeling for pins. I just couldn't seem to find my rhythm and became frustrated.  The message here is always practice, especially when work is quiet, because when the phone rings again you'll be better prepared for those emergency lockouts. Lock Review - ERA Fortress

Image
Today your local Manchester based locksmith will be talking about the ERA Fortress 3 Star Diamond Graded Euro Cylinder from ERA. I'll be looking at the various features, putting them to the test and rating it out of 10 for security. The Looks This lock certainly looks the part. Good solid construction and a clear indication of its strongest features. The clearly reinforced center of the lock, reassures you the customer that snapping is impossible. But what about how it looks in the door? How do we communicate to prospective burglars that this lock is not for messing with? Well, like most locks that are TS007 3* compliant they all feature a kite mark on the front, just below the key way. This is a heart comprised of a B and an S (British Standard) with a star rating above. This serves as a clear message to (experienced) thieves that you will not be able to bypass this lock. Security Features This lock boasts a number of high security features designed to keep burglars at bay. The

3 Star Anti-Snap Locks

Image
For anyone that's had a break-in in their area, they will have probably heard the words "anti-snap locks". Perhaps they've been recommended by the Police attending the scene or your local locksmith. The reason is because they are the most effective way to prevent break-ins. Burglars on the prowl are generally looking for big value items like your car, but first they need to gain access to your property. They do this by first assessing which properties with a desirable car have breakable locks. Anti-theft locks all have a star rating engraved on the front known as a kite mark, locks without these markings are most likely easy to snap. It's also worth noting that locks that aren't close to flush with the handle are even more attractive to burglars as they are much easier to manipulate. First the burglar will remove or destroy the handle using large pliers or mole grips. Standard uPVC door handles are hollow and brittle, applying enough force will break them. The

Top 5 Security Tips

Top 5 Security Tips Our home is a safe space for ourselves and our families, our refuge from the outside world and the place we keep all those things that are precious to us. However due to the recent rise in burglaries and car thefts, it's easy to feel a little less safe in our homes. However, not to fear! There are several simple, cost effective (and not so cost effective) ways to keep your home safe from prowlers and car thieves, and today I'm going to share them with you. Here are my top 5 home security tips from your friendly neighborhood locksmith. Lights Well positioned, security lighting is a fantastic way to deter burglars from attempting a break in. Burglars are always on the lookout for poorly lit drives and doorways to work in so they don't raise the alarm with your neighbors. Also, if you or your loved ones are arriving home late after a night on the town, a well lit driveway will make them feel much safer as they enter the property. If your security lights

Emergency Burglary Response

Experiencing a break in can be upsetting and traumatic for families and especially for those of us that live alone. The violation of privacy, never mind the loss of property is enough to keep you up at night. There is a limit to the number of security measures we can take to prevent a break in, whether they be financial limits or a reluctance to turn your home into a fortress. For help and advice on how to secure your home from the most common form of break in, please see some of my previous blog posts on anti snapping locks and high security handles. Today however I'd like to focus on how your Manchester based locksmith can help you when you've had a break in. First thing to do, obviously, is call the police and report the crime. The police will very likely want to do a home visit and take a statement and they may also instruct a forensic team to check for any evidence left behind and check for fingerprints around the damaged area of the door. This work sometimes leaves behind
