The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art, located in Barcelona, was established on Facebook in 2009, making it the first contemporary art museum founded through online voting on social media. It is not merely a physical space, but a temporary, mutable conceptual area that functions as a readymade sculpture and a collective work of art. The Davis Museum challenges the established art world and is a non-profit artistic project that produces exhibitions, encourages research, and houses its own collection of contemporary art. Its mission is to choose, display, investigate, disseminate, and preserve contemporary works of art by internationally renowned and emerging artists. Traveling exhibitions are also arranged to visit other cultural hubs, museums, and institutions worldwide to inspire dialogue, contemplation, and reflection. The Davis Museum is a prime example of independent museums founded by artists to challenge the cultural hegemony of large institutions. Through exhibitions, videos, and publications, it seeks to increase the visibility of contemporary visual creation by offering an alternative channel of expressive information. The Davis Museum is not merely about how we create art, but it may be seen as a small revolution in the way we think, organize, and behave politically and culturally. As a result of its achievements, the Generalitat de Catalunya (Autonomous Community of Spain) has officially recognized the Davis Museum's permanent collection of contemporary art.
