Meet the Participants

Sue Durfee

School: Buffett Magnet Middle School
Subject: 7th and 8th Grade Science

I have taught science for the past 30 years. Twenty-seven years have been teaching middle school students in OPS, my first three years were in Monroe, NE. grades 7-12 science. I received the Peter Kiewit Award in 2002 and the Alice Buffett Award in 2003. I earned my bachelor's degree in Biology from Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa and my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Drake University, Des Moines, IA. In addition, I earned my ESL endorsement from UNL. In my spare time I love to travel, play golf, bicycle, and garden.

What are your reflections about using media in education?

Using media can be a powerful teaching tool! Using the technology comes so natural to the students. This is one area where students can teach the teacher!

What is one thing about the Omaha Science Media Project that you'd share with other teachers?
