A magnificent collection of Alaskan ethnographic material acquired in the first half of the 19th century by Adolf Etholen, a Finn who was an administrator in the Russian-American Co., is presented in this photograph-laden catalogue of the majority of these objects. Presently in the collection of the National Museum of Finland, the Northwest Coast and Eskimo objects Etholen collected--more than 1,400 are illustrated in 581 photographs--have never before been published and few have ever before been exhibited. A dazzling array of the finest artifacts those cultures produced 150-200 years ago, these objects are presented in large photographs with data provided for each object that appears in the photographs.
