Bound by John Pritchard of Carnarvon [i.e. Caernarvon] in contemporary gilt-tooled red calf, contrasting black morocco lettering-piece. Lightly rubbed and scored. Marbled endpapers, binder's ticket and contemporary armorial bookplate of Newborough to FEP. A revised and enlarged edition, in an incongruously elaborate binding, of a popular Dublin-printed medical vade mecum designed for domestic use first published in 1825. Little is known of Welsh bookbinder John Pritchard and his successors; of their work Ramsden remarks: 'All their work is rather rough, and they were primarily stationers in all probability'.
