About the Author: William K. Livingston, MD (1892-1966) was Chair of Surgery at the University of Oregon Medical School and leader of one of the first multidisciplinary pain clinics, and he gathered a team of basic scientists to study the neurobiology of pain. Additionally, he visited clinics and laboratories throughout the world in order to observe and discuss their work.
