Nobody grows up saying "I want to be an HR Professional" I have my degree in Education and at a young age a Headhunter came to me to ask me if I wanted to work in an HR company - it was one of the largest in NYC. I said yes ....and here we are today

Company culture is a real process!  I have gone into companies to help create them - but the key is having management FOLLOW THROUGH.  If you don't get that then all your work is futile.  It starts with a few steps to improve it:  You will be doing alot of re-evaluating.  Look at your company... (more) Company culture is a real process!  I have gone into companies to help create them - but the key is having management FOLLOW THROUGH.  If you don't get that then all your work is futile.  It starts with a few steps to improve it:  You will be doing alot of re-evaluating.  Look at your company values and goals (do you even have them)- and be sure to actually write them down....hang them in your hallways, and base everything you create and do on them, it's your theme and you need to follow it all the way through.  This organizes how employees need to view the company.  It gives employees guidelines on what is expected - and gives managers a way to measure employee behavior and work.  Come up with a reward system - recognizing and rewarding your employees go a very long way.  When I implement a reward system it is almost always based on the company culture.  There is so many other things that you can do.  My consulting company has a discussion with the leaders of an organization  to get a feel as to where they want to go - this is really like a brainstorming session.  Then we put together a business plan called "Culture Rejuvenation" - and off we go - helping companies to grow -it's almost like planning a party - as creating a company culture is like a big event. FUN FUN and if your not having fun planning this - something needs to change in your company culture.....;)

I truly believe getting training in risk management and HR -employment compliance laws.  So many small business forget about that, until it's too late.  Many of my start-ups - do not even realize that when they begin to hire -employees there are certain ways to file their onboarding documents -... (more) I truly believe getting training in risk management and HR -employment compliance laws.  So many small business forget about that, until it's too late.  Many of my start-ups - do not even realize that when they begin to hire -employees there are certain ways to file their onboarding documents - as per the federal government.  Interesting question and very wise to be asking.
