As the title says.... "200 Great Painting Ideas".... that's what it is, inspiration.... short on instruction (but at this point I have plenty of books that discuss that)..... I mostly want inspiration and Carole Katchen delivers. I rated it 4 out of 5 only because, I would have preferred a few more of Carole Katchen's pieces in place of some of the others.... Carole's work is wonderful

Well illustrated examples of painting ideas to jumpstart amateur painters imaginations when they need a little push.
Unfortunately I found the ideas to be somewhat old-school and not as fresh as I was looking for.
More inspirational paintings can be found in Pinterest (and I am a book lover and buyer).
No abstract art was included which is disappointing.

I've owned this book for a couple of years now, and it has helped me many, many times. The "ideas" themselves are okay, but I love this book because of all the paintings. I have tried new techniques, design elements and subjects because I find something inspirational in a painting contained within the book. I browse through it often. The paintings are all very different, which is a plus, not just one style, subject or medium.

This is a fabulous book. It helped me to see and want to paint the magic and beauty in ordinary objects. Katchen shows a wonderful selection of artist's works. This book is full of inspiring ideas for choosing and arranging objects and colors for delicious paintings.
