Most devotional books come across as sweet-but-empty of content. By contrast, ICU nurse Tracy Crump interacted with patients in their most critical moments. With compassion, she shares those powerful experiences with readers. -- Cecil Murphey, NYT bestselling author of 90 Minutes in Heaven

Drawing from the power of her sharp storytelling skills, Tracy Crump has assembled an encouraging and inspiring devotional that points us to the One who is our source of peace and comfort. -- Victoria Duerstock, speaker, coach and author of Advent Devotions & Christmas Crafts for Families, Skyhorse Publishing, 2020

Tracy Crump’s stories and spiritual insights tug at the heart and inspire hope in the God who can heal body and soul. -- Katy Kauffman, cofounder of Lighthouse Bible Studies and editor of Refresh Bible Study Magazine

I devoured this book in one sitting, and I look forward to reading it again and again. -- Josie Siler, award-winning writer and Vice President of Broken but Priceless Ministries.

Simple yet thought provoking. Tender yet convicting. Tracy Crump crafts a timeless devotional to help us focus on the Giver of health. -- Cindy K. Sproles, best-selling author and cofounder of Christian Devotions Ministries

My heart melted, broke, and soared reading story after story of small victories through major trials. This is a book you’ll want to turn to time and again. -- Bethany Jett, award-winning author of Platinum Faith

Quick reads but packed with hope and encouragement
Tracy Crump’s devotions, written through personal experiences as an intensive care nurse, offer hope to anyone dealing with a health crisis. This book is perfect for caregivers, family members dealing with a loved one’s health challenges, patients, professionals in the medical field, first responders – anyone dealing with a medical illness or diagnosis! Tracy’s personal experiences make each one of these devotions come alive! Tracy offers hope amidst those serious, and often, miraculous circumstances, but my particular favorite devotion revolved around laughter: the best medicine! I could just see the author’s mother careening in her wheelchair through the parking garage, heading straight towards a parked SUV! (She was unharmed, by the way and retained her sense of humor through the event!) Grab more than one copy of her book and plan to share when someone you know faces a health challenge! You’ll be glad you did.- Julie Lavender, author of 365 Ways to Love Your Child: Turning Little Moments into Lasting Memories (Revell)

The book "Health, Healing, and Wholeness" by Tracy Crump is a powerful collection of devotionals for all who need hope in the midst of illness, whether a patient, caregiver, or medical professional. Because it was written by a friend of mine, I was eager to read what she had experienced in her years as an ICU nurse but also as a fellow Believer of Christ. The result touched me deeply and I highly recommend it to others.

These chapters are all short, to the point, and show an extraordinary depth of insight into the suffering that went on around Tracy for many years which of course is due to the rock solid faith she has in the truths found in God’s Word. Turning those tragic events into a spiritual insight is not easy, yet she does so on every page. The book is well worth the time to read it, though if you are like I was, you won’t be able to put it down once you start.

One great quote came from the chapter entitled “One Tiny Seed” where she says, “The longer it [sin] remains, unaddressed, the more entrenched the ‘infection’ becomes. Fortunately, God put a treatment plan in place long ago.” It is a great tribute to Tracy’s faith that she has tried to not only share from her experiences but also to zero in on the truest need of each life, for salvation and freedom from sin’s control, the ultimate healing we all crave.

The prayer at the end of the last chapter, “A Sure Foundation” is simple yet hit me hard when I consider how my body is aging and the ravages of time are taking their toll on my health and that of loved ones around me. It says, “Jesus, I trust you with my life. No matter what illness comes my way, I can weather it with You as my foundation. Amen.” Together with the closing Scripture, the book’s purpose is clear and unmistakable and I am grateful for Tracy’s efforts to bring comfort to all who struggle in the area of health and wellness.

Matthew 7:24-25 (NIV) – “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”

Tracy Crump delivers a beautiful collection of devotions that can help inspire hope when dealing with the stress of a health crisis. Her experience as an ICU nurse gives her insights that surpass those of us who have not worked in the medical field. The individual devotions can apply to your own illness, that of a friend or family member, and also to those who serve as caregivers.

Unlike many devotional collections, these are not arranged in such a way that you should read the first on a specific date and one every day after until completed. Each one is short and you can freely read as many or few as you want in a single sitting. It is unique in that all are tied to health issues. They are also easy for the reader to relate to his or her own situation and the author has creatively tied personal experiences or that of friends to the scripture quotes for each devotion.

I know that my family and friends have faced major health problems over the years and am sure that even more lie ahead. I am grateful to see a book of devotions that sets focus on this single issue and am certain that it will be a wonderful go-to volume the next time one affects my family.

My mom battled breast cancer and only months after her death my husband was diagnosed with leukemia. Walking alongside a loved one facing critical health issues, and caring for them when they cannot take care of themselves, is such a privilege. But the emotions and exhaustion that accompany the privilege are so heavy. I speak from experience when I say Health, Healing & Wholeness shines a light in the darkness for caregivers as well as those struggling with a health crisis. Tracy Crump’s devotions offer stories of hope and challenge me to adjust my focus from a situation I can’t control to my heavenly Father who is in control. Each devotion is a quick read but packed with powerful reminders that strengthen my faith for the journey. Her words hit the perfect balance to comfort and challenge your heart. I purchased a few copies of this devotional to keep on hand. Often when someone I know faces a diagnosis, I want to do something to help but don’t know how. Now I have a gift I can share.

What an encouraging and hope-filled devotional book. It’s so well-written and thoroughly steeped in the truth of God’s Word. The scriptures author Tracy Crump chose for the devotions are absolutely perfect for each one’s message, and the messages presented are powerful and so needed whether or not the reader is going through a health crisis or time of caregiving. In fact, I think everyone can benefit from the messages in this devotional, though of course I’m sure it will especially hit the spot for those dealing with health situations. The book ministered to me and I know it will to all who read it. Highly recommend.

(Note: This paperback is a slim volume that will fit easily in a purse, messenger bag, computer bag, or tote, making it easy to take to appts, hospital stays, or for caregiving hours, etc.)

I originally planned to read one devotional a day from this book, but once I started, I couldn’t stop until I finished. Tracy Crump does an excellent job at offering hope and encouragement as she shares personal stories and how she saw God work in difficult circumstances. She also gives us “life lessons” from each experience that we can apply to our own lives. I love how she begins and ends each day with a verse from the Bible. This would be a great gift to give to those who are in a hard situation and need encouragement and hope. And it’s a great book for all of us to read to remind us of God’s love and how His hand is at work. I couldn’t help but smile as I finished the last page. This is a book I’ll continue to go back to.
