Hollywood promised Robert McClure an investment banking career filled with cocaine, debauchery, and endless excess — but his reality turned out much different.

As the newest analyst at Latham, Schroeder, & Holt, Robert’s days are filled with a never-ending procession of long nights, Excel models, and PowerPoint pitchbooks. Mergers and acquisitions was his dream job in business school, but it soon turned into a soul-crushing grind.

When Robert finds a lost pitchbook from a competitor detailing an unannounced corporate acquisition, the gears in his mind start turning. The pitchbook might just be his way out and the key to the success he’s always dreamed about, or it might be a Pandora’s box of trouble. One thing is for certain — he’s got little to lose and a whole lot to gain — including the sense of self he lost, somewhere along the way.

I started this book because it was different, and had a good lead in. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. While it is fiction, the detail, etc. makes it very believable.

I hope they turn this into a movie....

There is a good lesson for us all at the end.

A must read for anyone interested in a finance career. The author explains the complex world of mergers and acquisitions while telling a very entertraining story.

The first half of the book made me feel as if I was once again immersed in the life of a Wall Street Analyst. In my one person’s opinion, more depth could’ve been dedicated to the SEC investigation and it seems to stretch the limits of imagination to believe that not one of the three analysts would’ve left this situation clear of any charges given the evidence the agents had in their possession.

As someone who reads anything and everything to do with Wall Street, I really enjoyed this book. You can tell that this is probably a cautionary tale from someone who worked in one of these investment banks. Although, in my mind, if I was turning this into a movie I would change the ending to give a more climatic ending to it!! Definitely worth checking it out.

Absolutely an excellent piece of writing that captured the I-bank analyst life…love the twists…purchased an additional copy for our fam kindle n have repeatedly recommended…also of the opinion should b required reading at b-schools- for the realism and the “compliance issues” raised. Looking fwd to the next effort!

Excellent book. Speaking from experience, it's certainly accurate. Speaking as a general fan of literature, it's certainly entertaining. The mix of realism, humor, and plot twists gives the book the feel of John Grisham.

The backdrop is realistic and the premise is fun. But at the end of the day the story seemed weak on realism when considering the risk/reward the main protagonists took in the early stages of the book. The net return from the first deal split amongst the main protagonists isn't enough to generate the subsequent direction of the story. My suspension of disbelief collapsed.
