    chart with age and size

    How to choose Cello size:

Measuring yourself or a child for cello size: Seat the child (or yourself) so that the knees are bent at a ninety degree angle. The instrument should rest such that the upper rim of the cello body rests on the sternum (breast bone), and the left knee contacts the curve below the lower bout corner. The C string peg (for the thickest string) should be near the left ear, with the neck a few inches away from the shoulder, and the left hand able to reach both ends of the fingerboard with ease.

Hand size is also the primary consideration when determining the proper size to purchase. Too large an instrument can throw your balance off and/or induce tension in the left hand. If the choice between two sizes of instrument is close choose the smaller. Refer to our recommended ages and sizes on the right.

Please keep in mind that this is a rough scale, and may not necessarily work for your child. Also, don't forget to consider your child's growth pattern, which might be an important factor!

I love this for two reasons
The biggest thing about me as the consumer I look for quality and companies that not only make quality products and stand by their products as in the way of customer satisfaction I originally ordered the cello after shopping around awhile it showed up and the sound post was rolling around inside its body saddened I contacted seller and they not only sent me a new one with no hassle. But I asked what to do with first one that was broken they said keep it they were more concerned about my happiness with their product ans reached out to me and asked me if I had any other needs or concerns feel free to contact them I know what they did isn't acommon practice but it made me feel good that I wasn't taken for an invoice number but treated as if I matter like a customer should be thank you guys you rock

For the price it was well worth it. I stopped playing after high school and wanted to get back into it, this was a great and cost effective way.

Included was 2 full sets of strings, bridge, sound bar (installed), tail piece, cello, rosin, bow, microfiber cloth, stand, and a soft case.

The cello arrived with the strings and bridge removed (states that in description) and the sound bar in place where it should be although that can pop loose in shipping. If you do not know how to set a cello up, YouTube is a great place to get some info or any music shop worth their salt can do it for you. Getting the bridge and sound bar in their correct spots is important to the sound quality of the instrument. So you may want the professionals to do it. The bow is complete and just needed a quick tighten and some rosin.

I got the black one and the finish is not perfect but unless you are looking for defects it is good to go. The dust really shows on that black background. The included microfiber cloth makes easy work of it though.

The sound can be a bit metallic but I have read and heard some professionals recommend switching to higher quality strings. I personally have not seen it as a big issue as long as I have good contact and vibration. In all, it sounds just fine to me. However, I am not a connoisseur… yet. 😏

    Some cons:
The tuning pegs worked them selves loose and it wasn’t staying in tune very well. I fixed this by coating the pegs with chalk. That added some more friction and I haven’t had any issues since.

The tail piece is a little bit cheap, but it does do the job and it has fine-tune adjusters.

Overall, I would absolutely suggest buying this for a beginner or for someone who wants to start up again without wanting to buy a more expensive student cello.

UPDATE 2: it's been almost 2 years. The bow that came with it was junk so I bought a 100 dollar wooden bow. It broke. I got a 200 dollar carbon fiber bow and that did the trick. The fine tuners were hard to turn so I replaced it with a Whittner tail piece http://amzn.com/B000LIC4HS I put it on myself, but a music shop can do it for you. That was another good choice for only about 30 or 40 dollars.
My bridge was way too high, so had the it shaved down. Much easier to play. The bridge is not of great quality so it cracked a few months later... I got a hard case, and had the bridge replaced with adjustable feet for 75 dollars. I wish I had done that first. My cello rings so nicely now and is lovely to play. I did the work in stages and I made sure I would continue playing before I invested more. There is still a nasal tone to my cello compared to teacher's warm rich tone, but I've started playing Bach preludes and it's doing quite well :) I'm happy. I would've never started playing if I had to spend 6 or 7 hundred dollars up front.
I just bought a Cecelio electric cello this past weekend and the first thing I'm going to do is replace the bridge and the tailpiece and get some decent strings. Maybe Dominant strings for A D and G, and a Prim C string.

UPDATE 1: I've had this cello now for 3 months. I have had some issues with the bow. The wood changes some with the colder weather and it's become harder to get the bow hair taut. (I always loosen the bow after playing to keep from warping) I've dremeled out a larger hole where the frog fits in so the bottom screw will tighten more. Unfortunately there's now a hairline crack where I've been messing with it. It's just a cheap bow, but it still works. My cello teacher also has the same cello (haha) but he hasn't had any problems with his bow. I'm guessing it's just hit and miss. Still a good buy though and I'm quite happy with my purchase.

    Original review:
For a cheap cello I'm impressed! I got metallic black. I was worried the metallic finish would look like shimmery lipgloss, but the effect is subtle.
As others have noted, the bridge is not set up. I found a youtube video online that helped. Bridges are never glued down, by the way, they're held in place by the string tension.
The strings were ok but they were a little hard on my uncalloused fingers (I need to play more). My cello teacher recommended buying a set of softer Merano strings (~$10) and that helped. A really nice set of strings can make a lot of difference in your sound, but I'm a beginner so the Merano are good for now.
My bow wasn't warped at all. It does the job just fine. It's a little hard to get new rosin started. I always scratch the surface of the rosin to get it going faster.
I also looked inside to make sure the sound post was upright and in place (it's a small wooden post - you can see it looking through the "f" holes) Mine was fine. Phew.
My package came with 2 stands... how odd.
I'm really happy with my purchase. I think I got a great deal and the sound quality is on target for me as a beginner.

This version of the student cello is poor craftmanship. The varnish is very high, very indicative of poor quality. You don't want a cello that shiny, it is a tell tale sign of poor wood. The pegs are supposed to fully fill the peg slots, this poor craftmanship shows that it does not. Its VERY difficult to tune and the fine tuners on the bottom are very difficult to tune as well. I suggest buying an electric tuner seeing as you will be tuning often since the instrument doesn't maintain a good tune for long. The sound severely lacks full rich notes. The notes sound twangy and squeaky almost.....the beginner cellist will sound even worse than they should. The pegs are also painted black....so yes, the pegs are of the poorest quality. Bright side, it is sturdy enough for a child to learn on thus far. It comes with a decent enough bow. The stand is nice. You have back up strings which you will need because of the terrible tuning experience. You have decent enough rosin included. It's not a bargain as it seems. Save your money, rent to own if you can. Plus, this version is sold for 150 USD cheaper elsewhere. I highly recommend you go elsewhere. I went to Fletcher Hinton to have the cello proficiently tuned seeing as I was having such a difficult time tuning it myself. The employed musician there helped show me the difference between a mid quality used cello and this one. The used mid quality cello soared in sound, sturdiness, and craftsmanship. The used cello made this new poor quality cello look like a toy. Save your money.

The young musician loves it. It’s perfect for beginners and comes all equipped except, curiously, for the anti slip anchor pad, which I had to buy separately.

I’m absolutely impressed. I was a little nervous ordering it online but absolutely worth it! Just came in didn’t take long at all! I definitely recommend buying one if your interested. And the shade of blue is beautiful!

Both my instructor and I were surprised with the quality. Great cello for a beginner, very affordable.
Sound post is not installed but that's how they transport cellos and you can install it for $20.
