This was an Angie's list Big Deal - 2 hours plumbing labor for $99. One of my hose faucets froze during the winter rupturing a pipe in my basement. I thought this deal would be a good opportunity to get it fixed at a reasonable price. And it turned out great. The contractor called soon after my purchase and made an appointment. The plumber was prompt for the appointment and had the faucet and pipe fixed within the 2 hour window.

We called them late in an afternoon, when the weather was cold and bad, a person answered the phone; not an answering machine. I got the information from him that I needed and he gave me time and told me to call him back. When I called back, he answer the phone again and we set up an appointment for the next day. The water heater that I thought we were going to get turned out not being the right application for our home. We needed a different water heater, which they had on their truck, so we did not have to have one ordered. I was very impressed that he had all the equipment that he needed to do the job. This company was very responsive and prompt even with the bad weather we had with a foot of snow on the ground.

Have a high end faucet that was not letting water flow. I was able to partly fix it but needed help. Purchased a new faucet and called J & E to install. Curt was fantastic. He recommended we keep the Grohe Lady Lux we had because it is much better than the new ones you can get at the local hardware stores. He was able to completely take it apart and drove to Henry plumbing for a replacement part. The cost ended up being half the cost of the new faucet I purchased and was able to return.

Realized at 9pm on a Sunday night that we had no hot water. Went to investigate and found water spraying out from one of the pipes leading to the water heater. Called Jeff at J&E Plumbing and he was immediately helpful and reassuring. Said he would get someone right out to help me. Then instead of having me wait for one of his service guys to finish a call he was on, Jeff said he would come out himself and take care of it. Had me take a picture on my phone of where the leak was and send it to him, so he could make sure he had the parts he needed when he arrived. He was at my front door within 30 minutes, went right to work, fixed the leak, re-lit the pilot, and got the water turned back on. What a relief! We couldn't wait until Monday morning to get this fixed, so I was thrilled to find someone to come to the rescue on a Sunday night. I thought the charge was reasonable for the service. Jeff was prompt, professional, courteous, competent...what more could a person ask?

It all started with a leak. They fixed the leak and then offered us a deal to remodel. The workmen were great. They all were very good at their work. They finisher, painter etc was phenomenal. We purchased all the materials and I was very clear what I wanted for a shower head. However, the owner did not listen to me and installed something different. What we have is fine but not what I asked for. He then left the workman to deal with my disappointment. There was an issue with the toilet seat after the work was completed and I called the owner to tell him about and he never responded to that phone call. Because of these things I would not recommend this service provider. However, his workman were great, people rave about the workmanship of our remodel.

Actually, we were a little disappointed. I can't remember the exact deal right now, but it was a certain $ amount for 2 hours of service or something. We decided we would have him fix the main issue and then a couple of other minor things if there was still time. He was in a big hurry, rushed in and fixed one thing and rushed out. We didn't feel like we got our money's worth.

As part of a complete basement refinish, we needed a plumber to perform some minor tasks. J&E was recommended by our general contractor and we contacted them to complete the work before our basement project was complete. J&E scheduled with us quickly and in one day completed all the work. The basic reroute in the basement was a simple task, but the professional found that the upstairs leak was due to a "homemade" plumbing job that was leaking for a long while. The leak was repaired properly and the general contractor corrected the ceiling damage and finished the job. J&E did an excellent job and we will use them for future work in our home.
Description of Work: J&E Plumbing was hired to perform some routine work including rerouting and capping-off of some unused pipes in the basement, and also to locate and correct a leak detected in an upstairs bathroom.

I called J&E based on the reviews of angie's list to get an estimate on some repairs that were requested from buyer's of our house (we're moving out of). Jeff and a colleague came by within the stated time frame and I showed them downstairs (basement) to look at the washer dryer hookups and bathroom- the items i needed some help with. While downstairs we noticed a fair amount of water around the Furnace and hot water heater under the stairs. How fortunate that i happen to have a plumber there when we notice water in our basement, right? No. Jeff took a look at the hot water heater and said I needed a new one and he could provide that. I asked if it was common that when water heater's break they leak and he said it can happen. (Note: we still had hot water in this part of the house). The next morning them came out and installed a new hot water heater, replacing my old one. Less than 48 hours later, I noticed the same puddle in the basement from when we initially saw it with Jeff. This time, the drain next to the furnace a few feet from water heater was stopped up. It seemed obvious to me that the drain was stopped up and water had leaked to the low point of the basement, cooincidentally near the hot water heater. I called Jeff and said i was a bit frustrated as it would seem I just bought a hot water heater when i didn't need to. He said he'd come by right after his first appointment. The installer from the previous day (garry i think- very nice) came by instead of Jeff. He scoped/cleaned out the drain (no charge) and we haven't had water since. When Garry completed the work i asked him to have Jeff call me and gave him the 2 minute version of why i was upset, having just spent over $1K when all i needed was $150 drain cleaning. Jeff didn't call. I called Jeff. No answer. Tried again later and left message to call me to work this out. No response and that was a week ago. My guess is that this will prompt some kind of response how he didn't get the messages or something like that but this is not the right way to do business. Regardless of the response, based on our last communication, he knew i was upset and why i was upset and should have proactively followed up even if he hadn't received any of my messages. I would ask that at minimum, he refund me the markup on the water heater (at least a few hundred as i spoke to another plumber) and not charge me his labor costs (takes about 4 hours to install). UPDATE: I wanted to make clear, as i'm not sure it was written as such, that i DO NOT believe this was done maliciously or to make money. I believe this was an honest mistake, though a mistake that should not have been made and that I should not need to pay his profit on. I'm disappointed by the aggressive response. I'm sorry to see he feels an attempt to right something that was done unnecessarily is an extortion or bribe. I do want to address one thing: "I made it clear to you that we would not install your water heater for free so you would give us a good review"- I wish we could have continued our dialogue but i didn't hear back from him after his installer/scoper left so i was in fact not aware he had made a decision or communicated to me that he would not install for free. This is my experience in its entirety and accurately reflected - I hope yours is better.
Description of Work: Came to provide estimate for plumbing repairs. While there, noticed water in an unrelated area and he said needed new hot water heater. He installed new hot water heater the following morning. Came back when water came back two days later and scoped a nearby drain to resolve the issue. Basically bought a new hot water heater when didn't need one.

YOU GOT MY RESPONSE SIR. YOU JUST DIDN"T LIKE IT. WE WOULD NOT PAY YOU FOR YOUR REVIEW....I made it clear to you that we would not install your water heater for free so you would give us a good review. The water heater we replaced was sitting in 2" of water. The rusted out bottom of the heater fell apart when it was moved. "The inspector noted the water around the heater and my wife told me about it on multiple occasions." These were your words. Now you are telling me to pay you $300 in you review and $500 in your Angie's list complaint for you to change your review to an A or B. We are an Angie's Super Service Award winning provider. I am disgusted by this attempt at extortion. You called us out to look at the illegal plumbing to your laundry. Had another plumber out after us who gave you the same diagnosis but charged more. .................I AM DISAPPOINTED ANGIE'S LIST WHO WE PAY $6600 TO FOR ADVERTISING THIS YEAR ALLOWS YOU TO ASK FOR A BRIBE TO GET A GOOD REVIEW.

The bathroom went okay, however the initial problem of the pipes knocking when running hot water was never fixed and he failed to deduct the amount paid from the special offer through Angie's List. This issue was to be corrected when I used their services for the full remodeling of the kitchen. I explained all work that was to be completed and expressed all concerns we came to agreement on work to be completed and cost to me for services. While installing the custom made cabinets the installer notice he made a mistake in attempts to fix this he cracked and split a portion of the cabinet down the middle of the wood. For a temporary fix to allow the counter-top installers to come in and get their measurement, he nailed the piece in place. When it came time for the crown molding the owner stated that he failed to incorporate the cost of the crown molding into the agree upon price and that it would be an additional cost to me to have completed. I explained that his failure should not be a additional cost to me, of course he disagreed. During this time I also had to call him to let him know that one of his installers, installed the ceiling fan incorrectly, this had to be taken down and re-installed. Once we agreed that we disagreed on the additional cost, he sent me a email that read " This is to inform we will be considering discharging your debt as income for the tax year 2013." I now see gaps appearing in the hard wood floor where the installer failed to tact down each row. These gaps can hold a quarter up right easily. Will probably need to get the floor re-installed.

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED Thank you for your feed back. I am pleased to see the customer does realize the initial project which was the 2nd floor bathroom went “okay”. Actually, it went well. The shotgun style town house was ripped up like an inner city drug house. Holes in drywall, copper pipes missing and stack pipes broken and exposed. We met with the client at a supply house selected all of the tile, fixtures and also the paint. There was a clear plan and material was scheduled properly. Three extras were charged on the job for changes of fixtures and trim finishes. Now, six months later, customer bought all of the material himself from a mail order program. Asked us to do labor only, offered a paint sprayer to drop the price. We had a specific discussion on how important it was to have the right material and timeliness of it on the job. If material mismanagement caused loss of time on the project there would be additional costs . Cabinets were wrong, he had to order a new cabinet because homeowner measured wrong. This took 2 weeks and the company he used would not refund or exchange the bad cabinet. They hammered him on the price and shipped one cabinet. The microwave was damaged in shipping. Again the company he went through dealt him a fit. The granite company was then out of schedule because of the cabinets. Now the cabinets themselves came with crown molding to be installed that was part of our labor only bid. We installed the cabinets and their crown. Then the customer wanted us to buy , paint and install crown molding around the kitchen and into the family room of this shotgun style unit. Cost over $1000. I offered to do the installation for $500 if he wanted to buy the material. At that time he quit communicating and owed his final payment for the project. The kitchen was bid clearly as a labor only job. The customer trying to save money cost himself about 20% more and extended the project time line out over 21 days. Then would not communicate with us to get in and finish last day because, he was avoiding making his final payment. Now he puts this Angie’s list six months later… Are you kidding me. J & E PLUMBING THANKS ITS LOYAL CUSTOMERS AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO QUALITY WORK AND TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY WHERE POSSIBLE.

They were really unresponsive and they never got back to me. They said the plumber would get in touch with me and I never heard from them. They initial call was left as a message which they did not return a call to. The second call was a couple weeks later. They did finally get back to me, but they didn’t tell me what I wanted to hear. Supposedly, two "master plumbers" came out to handle this job. The first "master plumber" installed the two faucets in the bathroom. After they left, we found that the hot side turned on the cold water and the cold side turned on the hot water on both faucets. The second "master plumber" spent more time going out to his truck or to Home Depot than he did fixing a non-functioning stopper and replacing 2 washers. The owner did come out, criticized the faucet we bought, but did fix the problem so we don't have to turn on cold to get hot or vice versa. The faucet units came with an optional set of on/off handles. One set was left, the other apparently was discarded by the "master plumber". I asked for the optional set to be returned, was promised that it would be, but that never happened. Date of service above is an estimate. I don't think spending time looking up the exact date is worth the effort.

We do appreciate your feed back. In your particular situation the hot and cold water lines were reversed inside the wall from whoever did the rough-in work. You contacted us to install faucets you bought over the internet. These faucets were not set up for the handles you wanted to use. We do run into problems periodically when someone is trying to save money and buys products online with name brands on them, but they are not the same product you would get at a supply house as in this case the cartridges were different and could not be turned to reverse hot and cold. Therefore the piping would need to be changed and you did not want to do that because it would cost money and then you would no longer be saving the money on the internet product. I did come out and do it for free and this is how you respond. Disappointing ...no good deed goes unpunished. Thank you again for your response

They had a big plumbing emergency and canceled the first appointment. I had to call them to reschedule but they did arrive on time and did a good job. We had a couple of additional problems crop up which made our project take longer. The drain size didn't match and the Moen roman tub spout was damaged out of the box. None of that was their fault. Once Curt arrived a day or two after he evaluated the situation, everything went well. There were some snags in scheduling and call-backs, but, in fairness, this was a difficult time for plumbers due to the extreme weather and the large number of emergencies they had to address. Our situation was, fortunately, not an emergency in that the pipe that split was outside our home, so no water was inside. Therefore, though it was inconvenient to have to wait, we did not suffer any damage because of the broken pipe. Curt was kind enough to help us move the heavy sofa back to its proper location after he finished the work. We are impressed with the fact that Jeff called us this evening to apologize for the delays in getting to us. It shows that his company cares about its customers.
Description of Work: Curt from J & E repaired a pipe that had split during the recent severe cold spell. He also replaced the outside water knob, installed easy-to-operate shut-off valves for the outside, and for the main shut-off.
