MIckey gave me a quote to remove a huge hedge so I could have a fence put in. His team came out when we designated, everything was done professionally, even the cleanup. This is the second job they did for me, the first was removing trees in the front a couple of weeks before. Everything was done very well. I have zero complaints and the price matched the quote exactly. All the crew was polite and helpful in any way they could be. The manager was very polite and listened to any additional requests I had. I would recommend this crew, they are hardworking and very careful crew members. Cleanup was well done. The team that came afterwards both times were very punctual and very careful not to hit any gas, sprinkler or other lines. They were extremely precise and careful. Very caring people! Highly recommended. Pricing was dead-on! Thanks Mickey and Team!

Great price on estimate, best of those I requested. Had unexpected cancellation of scheduled work so the team completed my tree removal the day after signing the contract. All were on time, professional, and tremendously hard working. Finished the job in one day as promised. Cleaned up thoroughly after completion. Would recommend to anyone.

At first we accepted a proposal from another company. While it was the lowest of 4 bids, that company never came to do the work. My neighbor and I wanted the oak cut and in early September. Over the next two months, the company kept telling us that emergent work caused the delay but they'd get us soon. Same story week after week. We finally called Chesapeake Tree Service, who had the second lowest bid, and they removed the tree the very next day! Their workers were polite, professional and very talented. They took down that 100+ year old, huge oak in one day!! The other company said that it would take three days. This company has an excellent reputation and now we see why. We highly recommend this Chesapeake Tree Service.

My lot was covered with pine & sweet gum trees. In total, they removed 17 trees. When Micky came out to give a job estimate, he gave me a number (if I recall correctly, it was $6500). Before I could answer, he dropped the price to $5800. This could have been because when I was originally soliciting bids, he gave me a lower price due to the fact that it was in the winter when business slows down for tree services. I chose the company because I live next to wooded school property, and Micky was able to get the school board to agree to remove some trees that were very close, and in some instances touching, my house. Rather than remove the wood chips from the trees, we agreed that they would be used to mulch a path on the school's property. The crew arrived on the morning of 3/2. There was still an inch of two of snow on the ground. I had removed a number of fence panels to make the removal go more quickly. The set to work and immediately their large truck made deep (3-4") ruts in my side yard because they tried to get it through without putting plywood down. I had to fill these ruts in later. As they were removing the cut limbs and tree trunks, their bobcat became bogged down in a mud pit on the property line between my yard and the school's property. This stopped work, and Micky had to come out and help them get the bobcat free. Ultimately, they decided to let the yard dry out and come back. The last trees were removed by 3/5. They asked other tree companies to come drop wood chips from other jobs in our back yard to help them finish up. I agreed to this on the condition that they be removed from the yard afterwards. I doubt this condition was ever relayed to Micky. In early April, the stumps were removed. This is because the guy who does it was injured on another job. While I felt bad for him, and was understanding of the delay, I didn't learn this information until the day before he arrived to finish the job. I called multiple times and nobody told me he was injured until Micky did the day before he came back. This left my back yard a muddy mess covered in wood chips. I called multiple times about having the wood ships removed. One weekend, while my wife and I were out of town they came back with day laborers to smooth out the mud and wood ships in the yard. When I returned, I was able to get Micky on the phone. I told him I was unhappy with the work that was done. His response was that I could just put grass over all the wood chips and that he had already lost about $2000 on the job. To clean up the mess, I had to rent an excavator to pull the wood chips out of the yard. In some places, it was over 1' deep. I have dug up 2 sheets of plywood, and there are at least 2 more still buried in just under the surface. A stump remains on just the other side of the property line - I asked for it to be removed, and it never was. Finally, I joined Angie's List to find a landscaper who could grade my yard and finally clean up the mess left by Chesapeake Tree Service. Through the whole engagement, it was hard to get in touch with anyone. I was told the crew would start on a certain date depending on weather. It snowed, so I wasn't sure if they were showing up. Never heard any updates the day or night before they arrived. When they came back after dumping all the wood in my yard, they gave me no advance notice. I was never informed of a delay with the stump grinder until the delay was over. Finally, their attempt to clean up the mess they left was terrible. My ward would be fine until all that wood began to decompose leaving me with a lumpy yard requiring hole-patching for the foreseeable future. Micky is a nice man, and his crew had a professional demeanor. I don't think they are a disreputable company. I just think my job was a 'perfect storm' of errors and bad luck. The poor grade is because of how the company reacted to this - favoring their bottom line rather than communicating with me and trying to come to an agreeable resolution.

I like everything about them. They were prompt and their price was competitive. They were insured and bonded, and that is the most important thing. Some of these pines can get really tall. It came out to $200 a tree so I paid $4900. We had so many done that I think the price averaged out because some were smaller and some were huge, and we had them before so I had the deal with them. We have a big property, the whole of it is wooded, but the back third is all woods. Lightning had struck 1 or 2 so we said they could just drop them where they are so we got a good price on those because they didn't have to cut them up or carry them away. This guy has all the equipment. He has a machine that could pick up the huge length of the pine tree trunk so they could carry them out and resell them somewhere else. He has other stuff going on. He didn't quote the price of $200 per tree, he quoted the price of $4600 for the job, then by the time they ground a few, we wanted another tree or 2, and that was why it ended up $4900. When you average all the price out for the whole thing, it ended up $196 for a tree. They had equipment, and they had plenty of workers. I have no complaints.
Description of Work: Chesapeake Tree Service took down 25 trees and they ground some stumps in 2011. I also had them one time before that after a hurricane or maybe even 5 years before that. They do tree removal, pruning, and stump grinding.

Mickey was a pleasure to work with. He responded to my needs and was there the very same afternoon with his crew. They took down the trees in a very professional manner with no surrounding damage from falling limbs or pieces of the tree. I was amazed at how they made short work of several of the trees and were able to maneuver some rather large limbs from over the rooftop without a single incident. I recommend them highly. Great service at a great price!!

We called on Saturday 06/01/13 at 9:30 am and the owner showed up a hour later to give us a estimate that we thought was excellent compared to others we had gotten then we told him we needed it do be fairly soon as we were having a pool installed he said no problem it will be done this week and we received a call Monday 06/03/13 that they would be out the next day Tuesday 06/04/13. When we came home everything was completed and cleared away. Will definitely call again in the fall for major tree removal. We called the owner about some questions we had and he responded right away and was very professional. We took several business cards from him and will not hesitate to pass them on to others.

I hired Chesapeake Tree service to take down several trees on my property. First they showed up unannounced. I was waiting on a call from the front office to setup on appointment and they just drove up one day. Reluctantly I said it was Ok to do the work right then. In hindsight I should have sent them away, but I run a business myself and know that probably meant a day of lost work for some of the crew. I have a sprinkler system and planned to mark the location of boxes and heads before they came. While they were starting I went into the yard and marked everything I could. Almost immediately they drove over a sprinkler box and busted the pipes. This created a muddy mess by the time I got the water shutoff. The person driving the Bobcat moving the logs was purposely driving thru the wet areas spinning the wheels and making a mess. He was tipping the Bobcat on its 2 front wheels just for fun when he had heavy logs in it. This clown was just goofing off with no regard to the damage he was causing. They were not the least bit careful about the state of my property. They broke my sprinkjler heads in several other spots because they would not stick to one path like I asked when moving logs. They also broke my driveway in 2 spots (why drive over 2 different spots?). All this was avoidable if they were careful and used a little common sense. They had obviously planned 2 jobs for the crew that day. It became obvious they were in a hurry to leave and proceeded to purposely drop a large tree right across my fence instead of taking the time to down it properly. They simply wanted to get out of there as fast as possible and go on to the next job regardless if mine was finished properly or not. I tried on several occasions to get the owner, Mickey, to view and discuss the damage to my property. Once he said he would come by, but never did. Other times my calls and message went unanswered. I know taking down trees is a messy business. I have since hired 2 other tree companies to do similar work and both were careful, took their time and cleaned up behind without leaving any major damages to my property. I see they have mostly good marks on Angie's list. I guess if everything goes perfect they might be OK. If you have a problem, and they have your money, you are screwed. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional person as Mickey. I have never taken the time to write a bad review (here or anywhere else) on anybody I hired for work at my home, but this experience was so bad I feel the need to warn people. There are a lot of tree companies out there and I have hired 2 other really good ones with no trouble. No reason to risk your property to this guy.

Response from Chesapeake Tree Service
*** PLEASE READ *** My name is Mickey Toll and I am the owner of Chesapeake Tree Service. I am blown away by this review. When I read this review from 2013 I was shocked. I called Mr. [Member name] and received no return phone call. after several days I stopped by and spoke with Mrs. [Member name]. She explained the situation to me and I told her very sorry and that I had a blank check to fill in an amount for any damages and time that my company had cost her family. I shared with her that this is not the way I run my business and that this was an exception. Mrs. [Member name] went on to inform me that they tried to call me for a week or so and I did not respond. I shared with Mrs. [Member name] that my wife and I had lost a child at this time and a took a few weeks away from my business to be with my wife and that is why the could not get a response back from me. Again, I offered to pay for any damages and extra cost for any time spent dealing with this matter. The response from Mrs. [Member name] was probably not interested but I will let my husband know. To date I have received no response. It is my desire to do the best I can do at all times but, there are times that can be bigger than all of us. Again I say to the [Member name]s, Sorry for any trouble my company has caused your family and I ask only for your forgiveness. Thanks for your time, Mickey

Mickey was recommended to us on Saturday by another tree service that was unable to do the work. Mickey was there within about three hours to give me an estimate. I was really expecting to be taken advantage of since the rotting trees were very talI and I needed to get the work done as soon as possible. I was very pleased to find out that this would not be the case. Mickey and his crew were very polite and very professional. The crew arrived the first thing Monday morning, while I was out, and they went right to work. They used a bucket truck to remove the trees that were about 50 ft. tall. They made quick work of tthe job and cleaned up very well. I would be happy to tell anyone about Mickey Toll and Chesapeake Tree Service and how happy I was with their work.

High winds from a winter storm snapped a 20-25 foot tree in my back yard off at its base. I called the next day and they came out and gave me an estimate that day, which was lower than others I had received. They were out the following day and had the tree removed, the stump ground down and the busted fence pickets neatly stacked against the fence. The site was completely cleaned up. They did an excellent job and I would surely use them again in the future.

Chesapeake Tree Service provided excellent service, and very affordable. Attention to detail; they laid out plywood in the yard so the bucket truck and stump grinder would not put ruts into the yard. We had six trees cut all along the property line, close to power lines and outdoor shed (precision cuts) and they did a superb job without destroying any flowerbeds, buildings, fence or anything else. At the end of the day they did a very thorough clean-up and left no debris anywhere in the yard. They were prompt, did exactly what they said they would and was finished in about 6-7 hours. I would highly recommend them and use them again in the future.

Mickey was very kind, as well as all the men who worked with him! They were amazing!!
Description of Work: After meeting with two other contractors, I met with Mickey. He knew my family was in danger, but was not sure he could get a crane to get a 70 foot pine tree out of my backyard. He said he would try his best. He called me at 8:00 PM that night and said he could get the crane, and i could pay the crane people directly. This way there was no mark up on that service. The men we kind, professional, and fast. They cleaned up everything when they finished.

I got 3 estimates and Mickey was the most competetive. He called and said he could knock out the job in the morning and was as good as his word. His crew was absolutely professional, didn't leave a mark on the house and even trimmed up the low branches on one of the other trees which were just too close to my daughter's playset. Don't bother looking any further, Chesapeake Tree service has the best prices (this is actually the 3rd time I've used them. Each time I've gotten quotes from 2 others and they've been the best price) and the right equipment to get the job done quickly and professionally. I can't give a stronger recommendation, you will not regret hiring them! They definitely go above and beyond to make you happy!!!

Excellent communication, showed when scheduled for estimate and work. Best of 5 estimates/proposals. Great crew, equipment. Safety was foremost. Crew spent more time clearing debris than timber removal, raked yard where work was done, picked up all loose debris in street and driveway. Can hardly tell they were here...except for the cleared trees.

We had quotes from other companies, and they seemed to have the best price. In a couple of spots where stumps were ground down, there are some holes. However, they were very responsive.
