About

Area 61 gallery was established in 2009 by master wood craftsmen David Crewe and Rudd Montgomery as a space to show and sell their work. Gifted friends and local artists were invited to join the space as the vision expanded to support local artists and craftsmen in a shared quest to promote local art as a sustainable business and career.

Our gallery features the work of 30+ professional local artists and craftsmen and includes hand-crafted furniture, woodwork, fine art, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, handcrafted audio speakers by SoundCrewe and much more. Monthly "First Friday" events allow collectors and those that appreciate art the opportunity to meet the artists, purchase current work or commission and collaborate on their own unique piece.

Area 61 gallery piloted the revitalization of the downtown Chattanooga historic Southside district at 61 E. Main Street - which inspired the name “area 61”. In 2017, as the Southside evolved to evening dining & entertainment, our gallery owners and artist community decided to relocate closer to out-of-town guests who love collecting local art and handmade when they travel. Area 61 is now located in the downtown Chattanooga City-Center district, next door to the historic Tivoli Theatre, among the city’s convention and boutique hotels and neighboring the vibrant West Village.

You can also host 2-4 hour corporate client events set in a beautiful historic building — The Maclellan, built in 1924 — among the works of some of the city’s most talented visual artists.
